1.8 Pours pitch black with mahogany edges and a two finger frothy light beige head that slowly settles into a thin ring. Spots of lacing left behind. Sweet malty aroma with bittersweet dark chocolate, earthy hops, caramel, nut and toffee. Thin and fizzy mouthfeel. Disturbingly watered down with high carbonation. Slight toasted malt flavor with subtle caramel and hazelnut. Tastes more like dirty soil with some sweet malt thrown in. Pretty gross.
3.4 Wait, what? where’d my rating go - oh must not have ever put it in. Oh well! Anyway, frantically searching my notes for this particular beer, I noted the black color pour with a thick, creamy dark tan head. Aroma was medium-roasted malts, with a slightly sweet and dry characteristics to it but a bit subdued like most Guinness beers are aroma-wise. Flavor was suprub. This one reminds me a bit of the "Foreign Extra Stout" and the "Extra Stout (North American)."
3.1 12oz. bottle: This one pours a clear, fairly dark brown color. There was a bit of a tan head on it that lingers a little bit and leaves some lacing. The aroma is milder. A touch of sweet chocolate and some roasted malts are predominate. The taste is good. Chocolate malts, but not much sweetness at all. A bit of dryness in the finish. Medium to lighter bodied. Smooth and easy drinking.
3.0 bottle shared by murphym45 - dark and roasty, smooth. a bit light body and sickly dry. Decent for what it is thouhg. Happy 250th.
1.6 To paraphrase Michael Scott, "Happy Birthday, Guinness. Hope you like crap." Pours medium-brown, slowly growing black with pale edges. Fizzy head dies away fast. Mostly nonexistent aroma. The taste starts bready and super-English, much closer to Newcastle than any stout should ever be. The roasted malts that surface near the middle are bland and dry, and do little to evolve the flavor as it meanders towards a spikey, overcarbonated finish. Hopefully it will be another 250 years before Guinness brews another batch of this swill. (4/30/09)
3.2 Bottle:   Deep cola, not all that dark, al least to the degree I thought it would be, moderate light beige head, spotty lacing.   Moderate roasted malt nose, slight chocolate and cocoa, perhaps moreso than the standard.   Smooth roasted malt sweetness on the tongue, smidgen of cocoa.   Smells a little more inviting than it tastes.   Clean on the backside, but also light.   This one reminds me of a PNW Porter with light hopping.   Not a heavy stout at all.   Not bad, but average.
3.3 Pours a dark brown with a large creamy off white head that sticks for a while. Smells of light roasted malts, slight metallic, very little hop presence. Taste is light bitter roast slight acrid, a little caramel. Mouthfeel is creamy, carbonation is crisp, body is medium. Better tasting than the draft in a bottle gimmick. Light almost flavorful brew. This one reminded me more of a brown ale than a stout. Drinkable, but nothing special.
3.1 on draft. pitch black with the classic guinness head. a lot like yhe original just a hair more full bodied. very drinkable.
1.6 I am not a fan of regular Guinness but I figured this one would be worth a try. It’s for the 250th anniversary of the original lease of the brewery. So I personally would think that this one would have a little more character than your average Guinness product. Pours a pitch black with a cramy white head that has a hint of toffee brown in it. I would probably just call it an off white. Scent is of roasted cofee and malt, it is pretty thin. There is a hint of cocoa. Nothing out of oridinary for a Guinness product. I was expecting more. Tastes of wood and bitter roasted coffee. It has light carbonation with a watery mouthfeel. A little bit of malty sweetness is in the palate, that intensifies when the carbonation bubbles seem to activate it. Maybe if they got some more co2 in here the real character hiding in this beer would have been able to show itself. The watery mouthfeel and the not too offensive bitterness actually give would this brew a pretty high drinkablity if it weren’t for the dry and awkward finish. But overall it is a pretty bland failure of a stout. This beer is nothing spectacular and yet a small step up for the original Guinness. I wouldn’t buy it again but it does leave me with at least a little bit of satisfaction, but then again not much.
3.1 From memory, this was a better overall stout than regular Guiness. It was a fuller flavored beer, although not the best stout out there, still pretty good.
1.5 Poured into a pint glass. I admit to be a General in the Hate-Guinness Army, but I’ll be as objective as I can. 3.5 A: Dark as night color. Foamy head with pretty good retention and a reasonable amount of lacing. 2.5 S: Not much of anything with a slightly odd huskiness. 1.5 T: Once again Guinness forgot to add taste to their beer. I can’t describe any flavors because there aren’t any 3.0 M: Light body. Good carbonation. Relatively smooth with a goofy husk aftertaste. 2.0 D: This fucking sucks. I don’t know how Guinness manages to make beer with no taste. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-23-2009 02:26:29
3.3 Hmmm... has that familiar Guinness appearance but this beer is lacking across the board. I can’t really put my finger on it. It’s just not as good as the original.
2.9 Bottle. Pours a black color with a small longlasting creamy off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma with hints of caramel. Sweetish roasted malty chocolate and molasses flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish.
4.0 happy birthday guinness! this one was brewed extra strong. wish I could have a drink from an real irish pub, from the tap.
3.6 The pour is dark, dark brown with a massive beige head that quickly collapses. The aroma is full of roasted and nutty malts, but is still crisp and welcoming. The taste is all of the same flavors of Guinness Draught, but magnified: dark, sweet, and a little bit nutty. The texture obviously isn’t as creamy and smooth as the Draught, but it is still a bit thin, leaving this one plenty drinkable but a little unfulfilling.
2.8 I love Guinness, and this was quite disappointing. Not that it’s necessarily bad, it just tasted more like a cheap, thin imitation that was not up to standard
3.3 On tap at perfect pint in NYC. Found an old rating I hadn’t logged. Its sweet but without a lot of backbone. not as bitter as regular guinness but overall less impressive as well I would thing more or 250th anniversary oh well try again at 500.
3.2 Bottle about 1 year old. Dark brown with a tall, foamy tan head. Creamy, chocolate aroma with light roasting and a touch of cafe au lait. Sweetish flavor, dark chocolate, vanilla cream, and a roasty burnt finish. Rather light and clean in body. Bitter finish seems to include hops as well as roasted grains. Decent but unspectacular. A bit too carbonated.
4.1 Expensive, but delicious. Comes off a little sweeter than the traditional Guinness stout.
2.8 Dark brown. Rocky tan head. Roasted malt, nutty and sweet aromas. Smooth but thin in the mouth. Good, certainly not great.
2.5 Sampled on 5/23/2010. This dry stout pours a deep black color from a 33cl bottle. Small to medium sized beige/tan foamy head, with decent retention and decent lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, some coffee and a touch of vanilla. A light to medium bodied dry stout. The malts are caramel, sweet with a touch of roastyness and some coffee. The hops are herbal and floral. Decent balance. Nice carbonation. Not a lot of flavor or body, it’s a little thin and a touch watery and not a whole lot of flavor here either. Sorry guys, but if this is the best you can do for the 250th anniversary of a beer, you should think about a different career. Its not that bad a beer, but it all hype and no substance. Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
2.9 Mild roast, mild floral, and mild malt aroma. Black, tan-frothy head, carbonated. Lite roast, malt base, mild hops; rather bland for a stout. Carbonated and balanced.
3.5 Deep amber color with a rocky tan head. Aroma is a little smokey with hints of chocolate, roasted malts and a faint aroma of cherries. Starts of sweet but is a little dry and has a bitter finish. Flavor has hints of coffee, tobacco and a light trace of dark chocolate. All in all, a little off balance but not a bad stout. Happy anniversary Guinness.
3.3 Poured from bottle into glass. The aroma is good with roasted malt and a hint of hops. The taste is very nice and nothing short of what I would expect from a stout. The main downfall of this beer is its lack of body...it has the body of a light american beer and a lack of a creamy texture. Overall it is a good beer, but not a great beer. 3.4
1.9 Pours black, red edges. Normal thin off white head. Aroma is vanilla, fruity, roast malt. Flavour is very disappointing. Stout? No. Thin, bodyless & plastic tasting. Not even a hint of roast malt. The finish is non existent, just seems like I’ve been chewing on rubber bands. WTF Guinness? Way to celebrate your anniversary...
2.9 A little bit disappointed in this one, though I like it better than the draught. Aroma is pretty weak, kind of smokey, a little bit of floral, but a lot of fizz. Pours a nice dark brown with a good head, but that dissipates quikcly--no stamps here. Taste was a bit thin with a touch of oak and cereal(?). Overall, not a bad beer to sit down and throw back.
3.3 [2814-20100320] 11.2floz bottle. Mild malty fig fruit roast aroma with mild plastic notes. Black body with a medium-lasting foamy brown head. Very toasted grains flavour has an underlying muted grass burlap veil. Medium-full body. Not bad, brings back memories of the brewery tour. (c/o HogTownHarry, w/ jerc)
3.3 Draught sample following the Showdown at Sundown Tri. Looks pretty much like regular Guinness with the dark hues, maybe a little more ruby highlights, and the thick, firm head. Aroma is heavy roasted malt and some nuttiness. The flavor is lighter than expected of more roasted/burnt malt and medium notes of chocolate. Abrupt, dry finish. Relatively light mouthfeel.
3.0 12 oz. bottle. Pours dark but not as thick as I was expecting. The tan head was also thinner than i would have hoped for. some roasted malts in the nose. has a decent flavor but not particularly exceptional in any way. some sweet malt notes balanced with some bitter malt notes. would have like to see more of both or either. good and dry but not creamy enough. to me it tasted like a normal Guinness, which i can always drink but never go crazy about.
3.8 (12oz. bottle). Pours black with tan head. Smell of chocolate, caramel and also a bit floral. A little fizzy on the tip of the tongue which was unexpected with some lingering bitterness. Like the original, it is easy to drink. I like it.
