Guinness Foreign Extra Stout

Guinness Foreign Extra Stout

Foreign Extra Stout is a beer like no other. The most full-flavoured of all. Singular and striking. Uniquely satisfying. Brewed with extra hops and roasted barley for a natural bite. Bitter and sweet. Refreshingly crisp. Always rewarding. Pure beauty. Pure GUINNESS.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana should be rated here.

4.0 Lovely dark beer. Thick Belgium tasting notes.
3.7 Guinness Foreign Extra Stout Rich fluid pour. Chocolates and roasted malt aroma. Dark foamy Head, like a milkshake. The head to a discernible degree remains throughout the drinking in the glass. Like a 85% cocoa bar in taste. Not bitter or at most an aftertaste that is restrained enough to make a person think well of Stout beer. Solid opaque brown to almost black color tastes like it looks, similar to the chocolate bar and lingers long enough to enjoy the brew, and want to see it duplicated in any other “next beer”. A definite go to Stout that’s affordable and accessible and has the Guinness name.
2.5 Bottle in West Orange, NJ Very disappointed! Not what i expected. Aroma is great, but it's weak, thin, and not very exciting. Was expecting much more. Lion Stout is miles above this.
4.3 Very satisfying after a day of coding and depression. As heavy as Yangtze river, and ohh that opaque look.
3.9 Bottle of 33cl, in a Trappist glass; from the fridge. A strong taste in a dark mantle, that could qualify this Guinness. Stronger taste than the usual extra stout, both refreshing and full of taste.
3.5 Favorite of all the Guinness. Most flavorful, not sweet, slightly bitter. Would pair well w/Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. Drinkable everyday, except 7.5%: cuidate mi amigo
3.5 Black pour with an off-white head with minimal lacing. The aroma is a light roasted malt note with coffee and a roasty flavor profile. It is a bit thin.
3.5 Deep black color and a nice tan head. Nose is dark chocolate, caramel, roasted malts. Tastefollows the nose, some dark coffee as well.
3.5 Couleur très foncée et légère mousse noisette typique des Guinness odeur de fumée et de malte torréfié, café en bouche malte torréfié très présent, café , belle amertume, un peu chocolaté, une bonne Guinness
3.6 330ml (7.5%; L0305GG002) at home on 23 Jan 2021, purchased 19 Jan 2021 (bb 31 Oct 2021): oaty, roast malt aroma, opaque near black, good tan head, pretty pattern of spotty lacing, roast malt, coffee, oatmeal, hoppy flavour, viscous, moderate fizz, dry finish.
3.3 275ml bottle brewed by Banks, Barbados, 7.5%. Poured black with a lasting tan coloured head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, liquorice, toffee, molasses and black treacle. Quite heavy sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness. Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation. More roasted bitterness to finish.
3.6 Colore marrone caffè; schiuma nocciola a grana media, persistente. In bocca caffè, cioccolato, liquirizia.
4.7 Pours a dark black at first glance but ruby red at the bottom of the glass if you really look. This is what all Guinness should be. Velvety malt taste on the mouth with a little fruit after it warms up a bit. First sip straight out of the fridge isnt a good one. Gotta let it warm up. My favorite beer.
4.1 Bottle from Ken's, enjoyed at home over a game of chess. Pours a deep brownish black with a big tan foam that leaves a little head. Nose is chocolate, brown sugar/caramel, banana. Taste is chocolately sweetness with a nice roasted coffee finish. Full-bodied, prickly carbonation, with a satisfying roasted aftertaste and a gentle boozy warmth. It's like Guinness on steroids, very nice.
3.5 just like guiness draught, guiness extra stout is also a dark beer just like guiness draught
4.1 Lovely bottle design with blue and yellow trim livening the usual Guinness black and white livery. Pours like black oil into glass. Browny pink-tinted head with decent head but fading more quickly than standard Guinness. ADDITION! Tried a second bottle which had been 60 mins longer in the fridge and it had the more of the solid head and wobbly charm of a draught Guinness. TIP, put in fridge two hours before drinking. The colour is an enticingly opaque dark black with some hints of ruby. An inviting brew to enjoy on a winter evening. Aroma is chocolaty and coffee notes, strong on malts, sweet and heavy. Flavour is nice and full with a hoppy, bitter first taste mellowing into a malty aftertaste. You don't necessarily taste the 7%+ ABV. Mouth feel is treacly and velvety in the aftertaste. A nice long finish! A nicely unusual and full of flavour stout from a mainstream brewer. It's great that Guinness has these gems in its locker with this and its cousins, the West Indies Porter and the Nigerian-brewed Foreign Extra Stout which uses sorghum rather than barley, I believe. Price-wise quite reasonable at not quite 2€ from Darmstadt Asiamarkt below Galeria Kaufhof. Not a session beer but one to sip on and savour on a wintry night. Or to be swigged as your daily beer in tropical climes as seems to be the case down West Africa way...
2.3 coffee and sour, not my vibe
4.0 Much more and better flavour than the draught version in the can.
3.4 Whole box from Internet, not so pricy... you know this year Chinese economy is fragile...beer itself is 10 months old as being sold with discount, some bottles are tunning sour, while the blatant bitterness, the long lasting subtile sweetness and the feeling of thickness have never seemed to be ruined or perished...Anyway, this beer is worth drinking.
3.8 33 cl bottle, Irish version. Poured in to a Snifter. Near black with a creamy lightly tanned head. Sweet aroma with coffee, liqourice, brown cookies, tar and herbal hoppy notes. Taste is sweet. Medium to full body. Dry, herbal bitter finish. A classic!
4.0 300ml bottle from Asda. Black with nice sized beige head. Plenty of retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, but what I wasn't expecting was the smokiness coming through. Thick body and low carbonation. Creamy sweetness to start and then a deep coffee bitterness with hints of smokiness. The alcohol comes through strong at the end. Lovely with bags of depth and flavour but definitely not an easy drinking stout, very much one to sip.
3.8 33cl bottle thanks to @simontomlinson and EuroSwap 2/2020. Pours dark brown with beige head. Aroma has roasted and sweet malty flavor. Taste is well balanced, full, malty with smooth finish. Very nice standard for its type.
3.4 Very nice strong tasting stout, turbo guinness
3.9 Bottle from ASDA. Aah, this is the stuff ! Has an enticing aroma of raisins and malt-loaf. Pours pretty much completely black with a “lively” beige head. Plenty of character in the taste. Dark fruits, chocolate, molasses and roasted malts. Alcoholic strength hides itself well – until it hits the back of the throat ! A sweet and fruity finish to round things off. Far better than “normal” Guinness.
3.8 Black body with tan head. Hoppier than normal Guinness with a strong malt aroma. Full taste, malt roast and toast. Long finish.
4.3 Perfect
3.7 Creamy tan head stayed on a jet black still body. Sweet malt aroma. Medium bodied, sharp on the front with a cloying back & clean aft. Malt, oat, burnt, roasted, nutty & liquorice tastes with a long tangy finish. First Class from the Macro!
4.1 Pours a dark brown colour with a beige coloured head Notes of roasted coffee and roasted toffee caramel and vanilla
2.3 330 ml bottle. Pours black with frothy mocca head. A: roasty malt, coffee beans, T: light carbonated, medium body, strong coffee taste, harsh bitter,
