Guinness West Indies Porter

Guinness West Indies Porter

Bottle: Filtered.

Today, 4 September 2014, GUINNESS announces the release of two brand new beers - GUINNESS DUBLIN PORTER and GUINNESS WEST INDIES PORTER. Inspired by authentic recipes, whose origins lie in the historic GUINNESS’ brewers’ diaries from the late 1700s and early 1800s, the new beers will be available in selected pubs and retailers from mid-September.

GUINNESS WEST INDIES PORTER is based on an 1801 diary entry for the first GUINNESS purposely brewed to maintain its freshness, on long sea voyages to the Caribbean and beyond. To guarantee the best quality upon arrival, GUINNESS brewers made a porter with more hops and a higher gravity. With their distinctive tastes, these new porters will offer beer lovers in Ireland and the UK something different and a fresh take on what’s been enjoyed for centuries.

3.7 500ml bottle Colour is a jet black porter with a one finger beige head. Aroma is of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and cocoa. Taste is of chocolate, nuts, roasted malts, coffee and almost slightly caramelly. Mouthfeel is soft and creamy and carbonation is light. Quite a warming taste. Overall this is a rather good beer which I would definitely drink again.
3.7 Bottle, 0.50l, shared with Patrick. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, roasted malt and nuts. Pours pitch black color with medium sized frothy light brown head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts with mild to medium sweet and rich roasted malt and nuts, following is grassy and earthy with mild fruity acidity, mouthfeel is smooth, while finish is average bitter. Medium body, slick texture and average carbonation in palate. Good old classic…
3.5 500 ml bottle @ home, serverd in a teku glass, best before: 2022/09/23. Aroma: medium intensity aromas of roasted malts, hints of licorice. Appearance: very dark brown and almost black color with brown to light brown head made of tiny and small bubbles which grow quite quickly to become small and medium sizes ones, very high head thickness, very high retention, high Brussels' lacing, too dark to talk about haziness. Taste: low to medium sweetness, medum bitterness, no sourness. Flavors of roasted malts, roasted chocolate, cocoa, black coffee, roasted coffee. Balance is toward the bitterness but well balanced for the style. Mouthfeel: medium body, watery texture, low to medium carbonation, medium long dry finish with low to medium bitterness and the aforementioned flavors. Alcohol is well hidden, not noticeable in the aroma or flavor and only noticeable because of its low to medium mouth and throat warming. Astringency is not noticeable. Acidity from the black malts is low. Hop burn is not noticeable. Overall: good appearance, low intensity aromas and powerful flavors of roasted malts, roasted coffee, cocoa, roasted cocoa, black coffee, hints of licorice. Good flavor and very drinkable. The acidity from the black malts is quite low. Well brewed.
2.6 Schönes Retrofläschchen, Schaum ganz untypisch, aber wie auch? Im Trunk röstig wie in der Nase, im Trunk recht umspannend, röstig, okay.
3.9 Bottle 50cl. Ink black with a fluffy off white head that fades very slowly. Typical Guinness aroma, bitter, grain touches. The taste reminds me a lot of the Guinness stout. Bitterness is prominent, also in the aftertaste. Nothing complex but very pleasant.
2.5 Nothing special.
3.2 Dark brown color with high beige head. Aroma: roasted malt, caramel, sweet red berries. Taste: roasted malt, caramel, sourish, bit of a watery feeling, feels bitter from roasted malt. Medium body, moderate carbonation, moderate bitterness. Not very typical Porter.
3.3 Kolsvart med fint mörkbeige skum. Doftar syrlig malt, lite choklad och kaffe. Smaken fyllig, lite söt. Eftersmaken hyggligt lång, lite söt och syrlig, kaffe och lite choklad.
3.4 --Bottled at Bishop's Arms, Falun. -- Pitch black, rich firm creamy head. Tarry licorice aroma. Mid dry with solid body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Caramel, coffee and resinous pine. Licorice and tar. Resinous bitter finish. Rough and powerful.
3.8 Flesje gedronken tijdens vakantie. Diep donkerbruin bier met beige schuimkraag. Aroma van caramel en chocolade. Smaak van donker fruit, chocolade en karamel. Nasmaak is iets bitter.
3.6 50 cl bottle. Near black with a thin lightly tanned head. Sweet aroma with roasted malts, coffee, honey, fruits and herbal hoppy notes. Taste is light sweet. Medium bodied. Slightly drying roasted fruity finish with lingering honey and toasted bread. Fine Porter.
3.3 0,5 l bottle. Pours black with medium, lasting tan head. Aroma of dried fruit and roasted malt, some coffee, caramel and bitter chocolate, butterscotch. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter. Finish is long, dark chocolate, butterscotch and much more present lasting bitterness.
3.6 50cl bottle, enjoyed in a shaker on 18-Jun-2021. Dark brown with medium sized beige coloured head. Aroma of malt and dark fruit. Medium body and carbonation. Taste of roasted malt, raisins and caramel. Richer and sweeter than the regular version. Almost like a boozy crème brûlée. Lovely.
3.8 Intensa, muy oscura. Sabor característico guinnes, cafe tostado. Me da ganas de puntuarlo bastante alto pero le falta ese algo.. y aunque sencilla en sus matices muy buena cerveza.
3.8 An exceptional beer. Smooth, creamy, sharp enough to be balanced. Just great. Albert heijn Amsterdam
3.5 Deep dark brown, almost black pour with beige head; good retention. Aroma is rather faint for such a beer, bit dusty; dark roasted malts, but not very much more. Taste is better; lasting dark bitterness, roast malts, bit of coffee/mocca, developing to dark chocolate. Rather light mouthfeel, bit creamy, fine carbo. OK classic porter, but I prefer more modern porters or stouts, with more depth in the aroma.
4.1 Poured from 500ml bottle at 6.0% abv. Aroma: Light roast coffee, dark chocolate, rich malt character, dried fruit. Appearance: Pours dark brown, almost black, with small mocha coloured rocky head. Taste: Roasted coffee, dark malts, treacle, chocolate, toffee - mildly sweet, moderately bitter. Nice finish of figs, dates. Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy body, moderately smooth texture with soft foamy carbonation. Overall: Nice, widely available porter with rich roasted flavours. Would pair well with Sunday roast, steak and ale pie, roast beef.
3.8 Aroma; scents of roasted mocca malts, black confectionery, sweet coffee, prunes, notes of plummy hops. Look; fine and dense tan head on a porter black body. Taste; flavours of roasted malts, mocca malts, black confectionery, berry peel, sweet coffee, prunes, black caramel, plum, ghostly backbone hops, and a dark and nice finish. Feel; good body and fine co². Overall; exactly how a porter should be. Imperiality is often too much to my buds. [bottle 50 cl b@Systembolaget fall 2020, T@ home by PivotekaH7.]
3.2 Decent dark strong stout
3.5 Bottle from Waitrose (on offer). Sea foam head. Black. Cold coffee nose. Quite nice although I think I’m drinking it too cold. Toffee. Sweet and bitter at the same time. Better than normal Guinness. Some fairly complicated flavours.
3.1 500ml bottle. Pours black with a foamy beige head. Aromas & tastes of coffee, chocolate, raisins, toffee & roasted malt. Medium body. Slightly roasted bitter finish. Enjoyable
3.0 500ml glass bottle from Morrison’s, Colindale. Part of a mixed beer offer. Dated as best before 23/09/2021. Served at cool room temperature into a pint glass. Dark dark mahogany in colour pouring a big honeycomb head with lots of big pocket bubbles. Very slow to recline to a wedge layer, lots of thick lacing. On aroma the beer gives alcohol, some limited hop, but mainly a buttery note of rich creamy fudge or toffee. A slight wafer or biscuit aroma. Pleasant but gentle. Similar in the mouth, the slightest bittering from the hop. Mainly a low sweet flavour. Forgotten very quickly in the mouth, no real aftertaste or presence. Overall, a very average beer. Drinkable but too much to right home about. Perhaps a good introductory offer for the style.
3.8 500ml bottle. Black, small tanned head, nice retention. Aroma of roasted malts, creamy toffee fudge, chocolate, hint of coffee, sweetness. Taste has all the above but flavour is toffee and roasted malts in the main. The body is lighter than expected from the aroma and so doesn't have that creaminess on the palate, although not watery. Very enjoyable but just disappointed as the aroma suggested this could be one of the great porters.
3.7 July 17th, 2016 - It's always hard to tell where a Guinness comes from (and it's provender for table talk with beer drinkers asserting that one locale is better than another) but wherever it comes from, not has a nice aroma, with a lighter note of chocolate like a malt ball, some wet cardboard and soil. Lighter bodied, it's closely related to the original Guinness, easily sneaking down the pipe like the smooth and velvety core brew. The light malt flavor grows a little and settles shortly after the start of the sip. The aftertaste has the lightest blush of dark fruit, but more chocolate than fig here. Also chalky, another reminder of it's family tree.
3.2 Bottle. Deep brown color with a thick foamy beige head. Aroma of nuts and butterscotch, some roastiness. Medium sweet taste, some bitterness. Flavors are ryebread, butter and coffee. Medium body.
3.6 500ml bottle served in a straight pint glass, cellar temperature. Almost black, with a beige head. Roasted malt aroma. Burnt /roast flavour, with bitter after taste with a hint of hoppiness and dark chocolate. Good head retention.
4.2 Black coffee
3.7 Parece mentira que sea una guiness. La mejor de la marca con diferencia. Tengo ganas de volver a beberla
3.0 Aroma is toffee, coffee and smoked meats in aroma. Taste is dark chocolate and coffee. Pleasant beer
