4.0 Dark brown, clear, nice head. Very nice aroma, lots happening here: beech smoke notes, cherries, coffee, vinegar, some spices. Light to medium body, light sweetness, medium bitterness, bit empty, in mouth, flavour: malty, roasted malts, hops. Bit alcoholic finish. Not great, but interesting.
3.6 Dark brown/black color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of toasted sweet malt, yeast, caramel, dark fruit, & some coffee notes; Flavor of slight roasted sweet malt, caramel/molasses, dark fruit, licorice, coffee, and dark chocolate; Finish is slightly tangy; Pretty decent.
4.0 Zwart bier zonder schuim.
Følger i smaken, kaffen blir veldig bitter. Ettersmaken blir tørr og besk. Noe ubalansert. Dette er 2015 utgaven. Best før 10.04.16.
3.0 Bottle. Dark brown in colour, beige head. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt, brown sugar, herbs and spices. I, taste rather sweet, malty and spicy. Finish is a bit peppery, sweet. Nice xmas ale.
4.4 Bottle, batch 592 with expiry in April 2016. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is intensive dark chocolate, coffee, praline, some ash. Light bitterness. Full body, thick, smooth. What more can I say - HaandBryggeriet makes exceptional dark ales. Fantastic.
3.5 Veldig mørk farge. Lite skum. En rund smak. Smaker av lakris. Kunne vært enda skarpere smak. God munnfølelse
3.5 Almost black pour. Big tan head. Plenty of lacing. Aroma of peat and spice. Taste is the same.
4.6 Perfectly Old Style Ale. Swiateczne piwo, niemal doskonale, bardzo smaczne tresciwe i rozgrzewajace. W zapachu dominuja swierzo zmielona kawa, pierniki i sliwki a takrze troche borowki. Smak to kakao, cynamon, gozdziki, wanillia i prazony slonecznik. Swietne wyraziste. Wyglad sporej i trwalej piany rajcowal niesamowicie, ciemna kremowa piana brazowawo szara. Goraco polecam
Rolig i glasset. Aroma af tobak, røg og ristet malt. Lette lakridsnoter.
2.4 Black body, small beige head. Unpleasant aroma of alcohol, iodine and nail polish remover. Spicy, chocolate-y taste, warming, herbal aftertaste. Nice thick body. An okay winter beer I guess...
3.5 Bottle 50cl, #607. Dark brown with a offwhite head. Aroma of spices, roasted malt and yeast. Medium sweet, light bitter with a soft spices end.
3.7 Pours a half finger of tan head on a dark brown body with lots of sediment floating around. The aroma is mild chocolate, cinnamon, earth, and Christmas. The taste has holiday spice, roasted malt, and chocolate. Nice. The texture is soft and smooth. Nice and enjoyable.
4.0 50cl bottle shared. Pours dark brown with a small light beige head. Aroma is very rich with roasted malts, molasses, dark fruits, light banana, some spices, light buttery note. Taste starts sweet with caramel, roasted notes, plums, raisins, final dry bitter kick with faint smoked notes. Thick sticky mouthfeel, full body, carbonation is a bit too high. Very good.
4.2 Barwa ciemno brązowa, nieprzejrzysta z czerwonymi refleksami. Goryczka niewysoka, kakaowo-korzenna, nagazowanie średnie do niskiego. To moje pierwsze piwo w stylu Old Ale, niesamowicie smaczne i zaskakująco pijalne.
Piana drobna, obfita. W smaku kawa, paloność i niezła kawowa goryczka.
4.0 A weird smoky and earthy christmas beer with spice notes. Complex, fun, and very unusual.
3.9 Bottle. heavy toasted cereal for the malt, light to moderate resin for the hops, light leather for the yeast, with notes of dried cherry, tar, vanilla and tobacco. Head is small, frothy, tan with fair lacing and good legs and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, between oily and creamy with a soft carbonation. Perfect Old Ale standing in as a holiday ale. Great for the season’s weather, food, long nights, etc.
3.8 1/29/2015. From bottle. Dark brown with a tan head. Spicy, earthy aromas with chocolate and licorice. Robust and thick, spice, molasses, roasted malt. Very nice.
3.8 Bottle 50cl. Medium light brown head. Dark brown color. Aroma is spruce shoots, gingerbread, hops, cloves, leather. Medium to thick body. Taste is quite sour with herbs and leather.
3.7 Bottle from 09-2013. Pours a very deep redish brown with a thick tan head (excellent retention). Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and prunes(?) with a bit of tar, smoke and yeast. Medium body, thin texture, lively carbonation. Taste is burnt with malt, wood and coffee before moving towards leather and a bitter finish with pine and spices.
3.0 Unimpressive holiday ale, a lot of sediment distracting the appearance and a bit of smoke take away from what I look for in the nuttier Scandinavian style Christmas ales I've become accustomed to. Wanted to like it but the nose just doesn't finish and the finish doesn't close.
3.6 Bottle from Den Nordiske Ølhandel, Copenhagen - dark brown pour with beige head. Medium roasted and sweet malty aroma and taste, some caramel, brown sugar, chocolate, some herbal and spicy nuances in the finish. Interesting and enjoyable brew.
3.9 Malty aroma with vanilla, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, and alcohol. Flavor is rich and bittersweet, with chocolate, coffee, and nuts. Roast coffee bitterness in the finish, with alcohol and licorice. I wish other companies would follow this lead for their holiday beer. Nothing gimmicky--just a really, really good traditional beer.
3.6 From the 500ml bottle. Deep brown pour with a thick off white head. Big thick body with lots of roasted grain and caramel taste that is very well balanced. Aroma is much the same, lots of barley wine notes of light roasted grain, caramel and fruity notes.
4.0 Bottle at home. Pours black with big light beige head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, and alcohol, caramel, vanilla, coal, dried dark fruits, liquorice, smoke. Taste sweet with roast-bitterness. Silky mouth-feel.
3.6 Black brown body with clear dark ruby tones, tan head, rich crocheted lacing. Aroma; fruity hops, dark juicy malts, dark fruits, possibly prunes, sweet liquorice. Taste; soft juicy hops, dark dark malts, liquorice, fermented prunes, leads to a finish with dark chocolate, herbs and dark malts, lingering. Feels well bodied. Overall a very tasty evening sipper, sweet enough for yule-nisse-dad, yet with hops not totally forgotten. [50cl brown btl, abv7%, #783 BB28.07.17, B@vinmonopolet Langnes Tromsø 9€ T@höme]
4.0 500ml ($6.99) This was a really good proter like ale. It was smoky and toasty and had lots of good flavors. good beer to chill with. I like the lil story on the back too. thumbs up!
