HaandBryggeriet Norse Porter (2012-)

HaandBryggeriet Norse Porter (2012-)

The old farm breweries of Norway made special beers - dark, hearty, earthy beers like this classic porter - for weddings christenings, funerals or any occasion at all. Haandbryggeriet makes living beer, not pastuerized nor filtered. But re-fermented in the bottle to create a natural carbonation.

3.7 Bottle (500 ml) at home, split 2-ways. Dark brown - almost black - with a medium beige head, good retention, leaving moderate lacing. Aroma is of milk chocolate, dried raisins & figs, smokey notes, moderate earthiness, berries, green peppers and hints of coffee. Taste is slightly sweet with milk chocolate, red berries, figs, earthy notes, liquorice, mineral/earthy notes and green peppers. Medium body, on the light-ish side. Moderate carbonation. Super fluffy mouthfeel. Milk chocolate and berries finish. It certains has the Haandbryggeriet signature with some berries from the north but what sets this one apart is the really nice fluffy mouthfeel. Good.
3.1 January 2017 - Bottle share at Leighton’s. Thanks Leighton! As ’HaandBryggeriet Norse Porter ’, 6.5%, 2013 vintage. Very dark brown with a red hue, still with a foamy brown head. Aroma is chocolate and rye bread, rich fruited chocolate vibes, musty, tangy resinous vibes. Body is light, tingly carbonation, frothy. Taste is ashy, dark chocolate, raisins, tangy fruits, spicy dry finish. Has held up fairly well with age. (3.1)
3.1 Bottle at level 42. It pours dark red - brown with a small tan head. The aroma is toasty, sweet, earthy, leather, dirt, dried fruits and mellow roast. The taste is dry, woody, leather, dirty, light ash, charred wood, leather, plum, date and toasted malt with a fruity finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Could be a touch cleaner. OK at best.
3.4 Bottle split at L42, thanks to LKS, 23/01/17. Black with a well presented tan cap. Nose is cocoa powder, toffee, light spuce, liquorice, dark fruit rinds. Taste comprises sweet malts, light charr, toffee fudge, chocolate biscuit, light spice, leather. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok porter.
3.4 Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer.
3.4 50 cl, batch #969. Almost jet black, no head, no visible carbonation. Aroma is mostly dark bitter chocolate. Medium+ mouthfeel, medium carbonation, bitter and dry finish. Flavours of roasted malts, caramel, dark toffee, prunes and alcohol. Some vinous qualities, but I’m a bit surprised about this beer did hit the Top 50 Porter list...
3.1 50cl bottle shared at Leighton’s. Many thanks to Leighton for this one. It pours a clean brown color with a small beige head. Aroma is roasty woody sweet with notes of caramel and chocolate. Taste is also sweet and lightly toasty with notes of chocolate and vanilla and wood. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, ok
3.3 19th January 2017 Farewell Bespin Bottleshare. Thanks to Leighton. Almost clear dark brown beer, big tan head. Airy palate, fairly dry and with reasonable fine carbonation. Mellow dark malts, modest dark chocolate and milder coffee that turns tangy. Smooth semi dry finish. Modest roasty bitter linger. Tidy.

3.6 Bottle shared in London - bought somewhere. Pours rich brown with a dense, frothy beige head. Dry milk chocolate in the nose, some dried fruits, light ash. Medium sweet flavour with rounded cocoa character, a little scorched earth, bittersweet cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and velvety texture. Alright balance in the finish, fairly dry and ashy, more bittersweet cocoa. Nice beer.
3.7 Shared bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 16.01.17. Dark copper. Brown head. Aroma of dark malt, dark caramel and a hint of smoke. Excellently balanced taste, with dark malt, smoke and tar being balanced by hop bitterness and pine. A hint of liquorice. Fine aftertaste.
4.4 Batch 719. Data do 05.03.2016. Dają 2 lata. Kolor brunatny, nieprzejrzyste.
3.4 Pitch black appearance with no head. Tastes of dark chocolate, caramel and smoke. Heavy body, low carbonation and a finish of metallic coffee. Rather coffeey
3.7 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a opaque black brown colored body and a very good lacing. The mild aroma was vinous and brown malt. The vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a strong dark malt aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of mildly vinous brown malt and dark malt. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.
4.3 500ml bottle @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours extremely dark brown, thin tan head. Aroma is charred smoked malts, dark berries. Taste is complex with wondrous smoked malts, slick chocolate, berries, more woody smoke. Just a lovely Nordic porter.
3.7 Bottle from Bottle Baron. Black body with a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of smoke, coffee and plum. Flavour of berries, charred wood, brown bread, cigar and black pepper spice. Thin to medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. An unusual Porter - dry and smokey.
3.7 Smoky plum and tobacco. Mahogany, thin tan head. Plum skins, coffee. Smoky overtones. Charred oak finish. Velvety, medium body, astringent, easy carbonation. A bit too fruity for the style, good intensity and complexity for a 6.5 ABV beer.
4.2 Bottle @ home. Opaque dark brown to black color with a medium sized dark brown head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma is malts, roasted malts, raisins, caramel, some chocolate. Taste malts, again roasted malts, caramel, nuts, raisins, a light hint of milk chocolate, malt bitter, earthy, lightly ash, slightly smoke, nice moderate to medium bitter finish. Medium body and suitable carbonation. Very nice porter!
3.7 Black with brown head. Smoke, roasted pig, chocolate and herbal. Slick, creamy, chili, floral and smoke finish. Overall: Does not get more Viking than this.
3.4 On tap at Øst, Stavanger. Pours black with big brown head. Aroma of smoke, tar, menthol, glue. Tastes bitter and roasted, but surprisingly mild and with a slightly sweet finish. Dry mouth feel, medium bodied.Re-rated 2017-01-16: Aroma of coffee, smoke, chocolate, vanilla.
4.1 butelka (rozlew:05.03.14 - przeleżało ponad 2 lata) Barwa brunatna/ciemnobrązowa - jak ropa naftowa z minimalnymi rubinowymi refleksami, piana średnia, brązowa, z małym pierścieniem do końca, W aromacie sporo ciemnej czekolady, suszonych owoców - śliwek, wiśni, świetna kawa, trochę rumu, nawet popiołowo.
4.4 Aroma: Nice soft aroma of chocolate with bit of coffee and hint of roastiness, also nuts and caramel, with time a lot of cherry, some tobacco. Appearance: Great head, dense and high, color is black. Taste: Nice sweet smooth taste, feelable chocolate, dried cherry, caramel, rosatiness, nuts, the beer is surprisingly full, bitterness is low, tobacco-like. Palate: Carbonation is low, body is medium-high, finish is sweet.
3.3 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a tan head and aroma of roasted malt, caramel, bread, and light smoke. Taste is of roasted malt with smoke along with dark fruits, caramel, and bready notes into the finish.
3.4 With Z, pours a dark black pour with a large Java head. Nose is deep chocolate malt with dark smokey fruits. Taste is dark smokey malt as well, with some bitter chocolate . Ends on the same tasting notes. A different porter indeed ! Quaff Score 6 / 10
3.4 Bottle. Tall Boys, Leeds. Opened with a big pfft. Clear, very dark, chestnut brown. Huge, bubbly, lasting, tan head. Nose has fruity, vinous, caramel sweet malts. A hint of earthy, unwashed coffee bean. Hint of treacle. Hint of savoury smoke. Taste is sweet, fruity, smoky, and light, roast bitter. Palate is fairly full, but is let down by being way too fizzy. Any richness you might expect is spoiled by the fact it’s frothing all over the shop. Long, fruity, bitter finish. Overall, it’s ok.
4.2 butelka, warka do 05.03.2016 (a wiec rozlana prawie dwa lata temu). brazowy, z rubinowymi przeblyskami, z bardzo bujna piana, nieco mydlanie opadajaca, ladnie brudzaca szklo. Aromaty bardzi intensywne, ciemne owoce (wisnie, sliwki suszone), kawa, czekolada, palonosc... tez jakies a la drewniano-ziemne nutki takie, moze nawet tytoniowe. w ustach slodko, ciut kwaskowato, gladko, owocowo, ze srednim wysyceniem. niewysoka goryczka popiolowa. srednio ciala, szybko znikajace z pokala. Bardzo pasuje mi rownowaga tego piwa, przechylona w strone owocowosci. klasa. Ocena potraktowana skryptem do przeliczania ocen (uzgodnienie UT/RB).
4.0 Aromat to potężne uderzenie czekolady, kawy i gorzkiego kakao. W smaku lekko słodko, bardzo mlecznie czekoladowo, z gorzkim kakaem, kawową kwaskowatością. Wszystko świetnie zbalansowane i na miejscu. Przepyszny porter.
3.6 On tap @ BØ 15. Pours dark brown, with a small head. Aroma is dark roasted malts with grain tobacco, and notes of wood. Full body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is burned malts, coffee, liquorice, leather and oak, as well as notes of dark fruits.
Buona carbonazione. Ottima e complessa.
