3.8 Bottle, pours black with rocky tan head. In aroma mainly chocolate, bit roasted and some peat. Medium bitterness, bitter chocolate in taste along with peat and a bit roasted background. Bitter aftertaste, medium body, average carbonation bit thick feel.
3.8 DWG; Bottle 500ml. Batch 690. Pours dark brown with a large, creamy, tan, forever lasting, leaving lacing, beautiful head. Nose fills with smoked, roasted malt, caramel, bacon and dark, dried fruit. Taste is moderate sweet and bitter, umami, spicy and smoking lasting. Body is medium, texture is oily to creamy, carbonation is soft. Enjoyed with dates and bacon. Great beer, disappointing palate.
3.9 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours pitch black, usual khaki head. Aroma of milk chocolate, bacon, soy, earthiness and some pine. Smells bloody good. Taste is similar, lots of roasted malts, choc milk, smokey bacon. Nice bitterness. Well balanced, not overly hoppy, smoked malts make it interesting.
3.3 Batch 476 7.7% abv. Black with voluminous tan head. Strong aromas of malts and hops with some smoke. Taste bitter with trace of salt. Long finish.
3.9 W aromacie mleczna czekolada, lekka żywiczna chmielowość i nutka słodu wędzonego torfem. W smaku wędzoność dużo silniejsza, wraz z czekoladą i umiarkowaną goryczką tworzyła zwartą, smaczną kompozycję. Pijalność średnia, bardziej degustacyjne piwo.
3.7 50 cL bottle courtesy of JB, served in a stem glass. Pours black with a medium tan head that remains and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. The nose has big smokey, roasty notes, along with soy sauce, espresso, earth, charcoal and medium herbal peppery hops. The flavour is mostly dry, with roasted malts, smoke and a slight sweetness paired with a medium herbal hoppiness that builds towards the finish, which is long, roasty and subtly hopped. On the palate it is medium in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a nice black IPA with big smoke notes. The nose is more complex than the body. 2014-09-09
3.4 Deep red-brown color, thick beige head. Fruity nose, roasted and smoked malt, chocolate, coffee, hint of cured meat. Sweet taste, roasted malt, fruity, resin, milk chocolate, moderate bitterness. Medium to full body, soft to medium carbonation. I would have liked more aroma hops in this one.
3.7 Bottle from Sugaya. Light smoke, dark chocolate nose, with berries, cherries, and yeast. Black, with a huge head that settles into slick waves of foam, good lace. Thick chocolate initial, berries, dark deep hops -- but overall gentle. Medium-thick body. Very tasty, mild flavors but at the same time quite rich. Well made.
3.5 Bottle. Black with an enormous head. Nose is smoke, with umami, berries, chocolate. Dry, smoky, bitter flavors. Fruity, with berries, cherry, smoke, umami, soy. Quite bitter. Original and just a bit strange. interesting.
3.1 Bouteille (Batch501). Moustache Blanche.
3.3 Very dark brown colour with over medium beige head. Some lacing. Moderate aroma of liquorice, chocolate cake, roasted malts. Hoppy is minimal on background. Taste is medium to heavy bitterness with under medium bitterness on the finish. Slighlty alcohol note appears after warming. Medium body and medium carbonation. It’s not bad beer, but black IPA should has more intensive and stronger hoppy side. It’s rather dry stout than black IPA.
3.6 Bona cervesa, és bastant equilibrada i gustosa. Buena cerveza, es bastante equilibrada y sabrosa.
3.7 Bottle. Creamy lightbrown excellent fully lasting head. Brown colour. Heavy malty and hoppy nice roasted aroma. JHeavy bitter powerfull smoked flavor. Hops and roast too. Nice. Long finish. Creamy palate.
3.6 500 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with a large, long lasting, frothy, light brown head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, bacon, smoke and caramel. Sweet flavour with roasted malt, caramel and alcohol leading to a dry, bitter, smokey finish. Medium body with oily texture and soft carbonation. Pretty good.
3.5 Dark brown...foamed up and fell down. The aroma is intense with rich molasses malts, smoke and definitely kreosote down by the pier. Very rich with a deep smokey molasses character. Not too rich to be drinkable, I like the balance here...taking black Ipa towards impy-land.
3.4 Botella de 50 cl, adquirida en tienda XXXII. Color marron. Sabor a lupulo, malta tostada, ligeramente a cafe y chocolate.
3.3 (Bottle, 0.5 l - ABV 7.7% - Brygget 21/05/12 - BB 21/05/14 - Batch 476, at Ølhuset Stockholm, Helsinki, 20140417) A gusher. The beer poured clear and almost black. Its head was large, lightly brown and it lasted long. Aroma had liquorice, burnt malts and hops. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, liquorice, hops, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt, smoky and bitter. If they call a beer an IPA I’d excpect the hops to be the most dominating component but here the burnt flavours and scents were overwhelming. A thin Imperial Stout.
3.4 Bottle 0,5l. Pours a black colour with a big fluffy brown head and tons of lace. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, sweet dried fruity aromas and smoke. Taste is smoke, roasted malts, chocolate, sweet fruits and bitter coffee. Mouthfeel is dry, moderate carbonation and a balanced bitterness throughout.
3.6 500ml bottle (0lhus Stockholm, Helsinki) Nice smokey aroma. Dry and tarry. Nice dark colour, large tight persistent tan head. Nice drinkable palate, gentle carbonation, softness almost like a real ale stout. Nice smoked malts. Hops slightly metallic after that rich body, but nice. Fortunately not too agressive, even though it’s potent in every aspect.
3.4 Bottle 0.5l at Ölhus Stockholm, Helsinki. Batch nr: 476. Brygget 21/05/12. Best Before: 21/05/14. Colour is almost black with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Smoke, chocolate, some coffee, some hops and roasted malts. Could be softer.
3.7 Sehr dunkelbraunes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, Kaffee, Schokolade, fruchtig hopig. Geschmack röstmalzig, schokoladig, Kaffee, fruchtig bitter.
3.5 Aroma is a rich maltiness with some slight bitter notes. There is some smokimess aswell. Taste a rich maltiness off the bat that finishes richly. Tje smokiness is there and it finishes with a nice bitterness. Dark body with a creamy head that retains well.
3.7 Bottle. At Patricks. A very dark brown beer topped by a beige head. The aroma has a smoked touch, with an almost chocolate-ish maltyness. Piney, fruity hops in the background, I think they could get more focus. The flavor is lighlty sweet, with a pleasant hoppyness to deal with it, but mostly it’s bittering hops. Chocolate hints, cold coffee, roasted malts and some almost meaty smoke too. Full-bodied and perhaps a bit too carbonated. Roasted, coffeeish end with a decent bitterness. Another nice and tasteful beer from Haandbryggeriet. Rating: 7-4-7-4-15. 120315 Bottle. A lightly unclear, dark reddish brown beer topped by a dense, finger-thick beige head. The aroma has a dominating chocolate scent, with coffee, roasted notes and a faint bacon-like smoke touch. It lacks a bit on the hops I think, but it works perfectly fine as a porter or something like that. There’s a nice bitterness in the flavor, some piney and citrusy hops, but it’s the chocolatey, bacon-smoked and lightly roasted malts that dominates here as well. It’s full-bodied and faintly warming, sort of sweetish on the palate, and with a nice carbonation level. Lasting roasted and smoked chocolate finish. There’s not much IPA-ishness going on here, but it’s sure a pleasant and tasteful beer. Quality ice cream or mature semi-hard cheese would be a fine pairing I guess. 140506
4.1 Bottle - Dark fruit, roast malts, smoke and aromatic pine hops. Jet black with a rich brown head. Sweet dark malts, piney hops with a nice smokey finish. As a smoked beer lover who loves IPA’s this is fantastic. It just ticks all the boxes. Great aromatics, sweet malty goodness, a dash of hops and smoke. Very nice.
2.8 Bottle. Brygget 21/5/12. Hazy dark brown/black. HUGE lasting and lacing foam. Aroma is sour, roasted malt, smoke, ash, dark fruits and hint of liquorice. Taste is dry roasted malts, coffee beans, hops, dark chocolate, dark fruits Medium, creamy bodied. Espresso like roasted, very dry, ashy and bitter finish. Suprisingly smoky and dry.
3.7 Bottled@Beer Hunters, Pori. Quite much black colour with a huge beigeish brown head. Aroma is sour wood, mild roasted and toasted notes along with some floral hops. Flavour is ashes, fruits, some tart wood along with mild bitterness to it. Wellbalanced and surprisingly nice for a India Black...
3.4 Bottle, shared with Parksy. Medium brown pour, not too dark, with a lively light brown head. Aroma is sweet and fruity, and a little brothy, a surprise to me that there is little smokiness in the aroma. Dark fruits are the initial flavour that greets you on the palate, then some caramel with just a hint of campfire smoke. Medium bitterness in the finish. Restrained smokiness actually makes this a more interesting brew than I had anticipated. Probably won’t win over any hopheads though, as the hops are equally restrained. Still a nice brew.
3.5 Bottle 500ml batch #476 @Beer Hunters Opaque black color, big foamy brownish head. Smokey nose with some tart notes and wood. Medium-bodied, active carbonation. Licorice, caramel maltyness, smoke, a bit tarry. Nose didn’t promise much but flavor is very good.
3.6 Original rating from 7/11/2013: 500mL bottle, batch 389. Pours opaque black with a huge light brown head. Aroma of plums, biscuity malt and a little hops. Fairly subdued flavours, some hops and roasted malt, only mild bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation and a short creamy finish. Score: 6 4 6 3 12. Update 14/5/2017: 500mL bottle from 2011. Better! The smoke and hops are more noticeable and are well integrated.
