Hacker-Pschorr Münchner Dunkel (Alt Munich Dark)

Hacker-Pschorr Münchner Dunkel (Alt Munich Dark)

Dark in color, malty nose, generous flavor; yet with a clean, hoppy finish, Hacker-Pschorr Alt Munich Dark is the essence of dark beers.

2.7 Bottled 500ml (flip-top, Vasa Sessions) Amber colour, creamy steady beige head. Rye bready aroma, some hay and caramel in the nose. Light to medium-bodied. Caramel, some breadyness, grassy hops. Quite generic.
3.3 500ml swing top bottle from Purvis Beers, Melbourne. Presents cloudy brown with a decent-sized tan foam that hangs around. Milk chocolate, caramel, toast and roasted nuts on the nose. Perhaps a trace of coffee beans in there as well. Chewy malty palate, sweet but not too chocolately, light grassy hop bitterness. Thicker than most Dunkels out there and quite filling.
3.6 Botella de @Labirratorium, Madrid (Online) 19/03/2020 Color marrón corona de espuma blanca aromas maltosos, cereal, sabor maltosa, caramelo, cuerpo medio, agradable.
3.3 Fass 0,5 at Altes Hackerhaus, München: Kastanienbraun, dezente Trübung, kräftiger stabiler feinporiger Schaum; frische + fruchtige Nase, dunkle eingelegte Früchte, kräftig malzig, Malz, Getreide, Karamell, kräftige Röstaromen; frischer + fruchtiger Körper, dunkle eingelegte Früchte, kräftig malzig, Malz, Getreide, kräftig dunkles Karamell, cremig, kräftige Kohlensäure, kräftige Röstaromen, etwas Kakao; angenehmer fruchtig-würziger Nachgang
3.3 Bottle at Wirtshaus Zur Brez'n, München, Monday 24th February 2020. Pours dark brown with an off white head. Caramel, chocolate and malt dominate in this very pleasant Dunkel. A little bit of cocoa powder, nice.
3.0 Buena Dunkel. Pero no es de mis favoritas.
3.7 Very Nice Dunkel Beer. Thick Creamy lasting head. Very dark. Super malty and toasty. Easy drinking.
4.2 Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours a dark mahogany brown colour with a medium sized creamy beige head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate, roasted malts, bread and fruit cake. Taste is similar, very malty with more roasty notes, caramel, chocolate, brown toasty bread, brown sugar and toffee. Nice chewy mouthfeel that is full of flavour. One of the best if not the best dunkel i have tried. Really lovely beer.
3.5 On tap at Paulaner im Tal. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of malts, toffee and bread. The taste was similar to the aroma with more malts, toffee, bread, caramel, a touch of coffee with medium carbonation and a nice chewy aftertaste.
4.2 500ml bottle brewed in Germany at 5%. Opaque dark, a very bright light reveals some toffee brown at the edges. Good-sized reasonable duration foamy head. Moderate carbonation. Somewhat burnt sweet malt aroma. Very slight grassy/earthy hops, relatively thick texture but still has that dunkel thinness in comparison to its stout lookalikes, star of the show is the toffee sweet slightly burnt sugar toasty malt. Very straightforward, knows exactly what it wants to do and does it. Has only enough lager characteristics to stop it being something else entirely. Splendid dunkel. Augustiner's might be better-made, Ayinger's definitely shows off more brewing skill and ingredients, but this just plain hits the spot. I'm keen to compare Ayinger's unfiltered dunkel to this, to see if it's the naturtrueb nature that makes this go down such a treat.
3.6 Ciemnobursztynowe klarowne piwo z niezłą pianą. Aromat głównie karmelowy, trochę toffi. W smaku kawa zbożowa, karmel trochę czekolady deserowej.
3.5 Clear brown, orange when exposed to light. Creamy brownish white head, three fingers, good retention. Lots of carbonation visually. Texture is watery, with little fizz and some density. Aroma is malty, caramel, chocolate, nuts, bread, butterscotch. Taste follows the aroma. Really malty, caramelly, in a positive way. Almost sweet. Bittersweet ending with notes of nuts and caramel. Alcohol well integrated. Good representation of a Dunkel, I suppose.
3.2 Draft. A- Malty, caramel, mild cocoa, subtle roast. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, biscuit, cocoa, subtle roast. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Pain in the ass finding this beer. Brewed by Paulaner when I was busy searching for Hacker Pschorr. Menu listed it simply as Hacker Pschorr dark bier. I do not like German beer menus I've learned. Makes for tough rating.
3.4 Tawny brown pour, thin tan head. Nose is roasted malt. Middle is light toffee, dark kilned malt, herbal bitterness. Finish is malty. Nice dunkel.
3.0 Dark amber to brown color with beige head. Aroma has toasted malt, brown sugar and some burnt caramel notes. Taste is grainy with dark bread crust notes, toasted malts and some bitterness on the finish to balance out the flavors. Medium body and carbonation. Overall it's a decent dark lager with no obvious flaws but it really lacks personality.
3.4 500ml bottle bought from the Offie, Leicester. Reddish brown with a creamy beige/tan head. Smells of creamy chocolate, Ovaltine and vanilla. Sweet taste with a touch of black grape. Velvety smooth finish. Light to medium carbonation. A lovely traditional Dunkel.
2.9 Pours chestnut brown, clear, topped with a larger tan coloured head, but not so lasting. Medium caramel and biscuity nose, quite sweet feel. Medium caramel sweetness and medium bitterness in the finish. Short aftertaste. Medium body. Good, but nothing amazing. Decently drinkable.
3.7 Bottle at the 'Back to the Roots Classic German Beer Tasting' session. I only took numerical notes while having this.
3.4 Pours a rich copper with off white head. Sweet honey and dark bread aroma and taste. Notes: bottle at L’Arcade Mainz, Aug ‘17
3.0 12-08-18 // 500ml bottle at Biergarten Inselrhein. Unclear mahagony brown. Light beige head. Nose of light caramel sweetness. Mild roasted malt sweetness, dark malts. Solid dark lager.
3.2 50cl Bottle @ LaBIRRAtorium, Madrid, Spain. Hazy copper colour with a thin white head. Aroma is malt, grain, chocolate, toffee, nuts. Taste follows the aroma. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.2 Keg at Bayerischer Donisl, Munchen, 07/06/18. Murky mahogany brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is nutty, earthy, dusty fruits rinds, toffee. Taste comprises dried fruits, brown bread, toffee, light breads. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough offering.
3.1 Bottle 50cl, an amber brown beer with medium head. Nose is on toasted grain, caramel, barley sugar, biscuits. Taste is quite sweet, aroma in biscuit and toasted caramel, some chocolate touch, properly done a bit too sweet I think.
3.4 500 ml bottle. Murky dark brown reddish, stable creamy head. Toasted breadcrumbs, citrus, hazelnuts, malt. Medium bitterness, minimum sweetness. Light bodied, watery texture, mild bitter finish, refreshing and easy drinking. Good.
3.7 On tap in a liter Mass in the Marianplatz, Old City, Munchen. Hazy chestnut color with a big beige head. Caramel and bready aroma and taste. Slightly sweet, mild bitterness. Medium full mouthfeel. Delicious and filling.
3.7 On tap at Rogue Wetbar on W Broadway in Vancouver. A dark copper colored beer with moderate pale head and a faint malted nose. I've had this several times in the past, but never made note of it. This is on the lighter side for a dark lager, but very pleasant. The light touch is appreciated. Tastes somewhat of toffee, caramel, tootsie roll. Low bitterness as expected. I like it. 3.7
3.2 Lively head, deep brown appearance. Roasty sweet malt tones - caramel and cereal. Deep flavour with a long aftertaste - medium sweet with mild umami. Could possibly do with a slighly bitter balance to it but it's no slouch!
