3.0 08.08.2019, tap @ Bakushu Club Popeye: Small slightly bubbly-creamy mediumlasting head, hazy golden orangy color. Aroma is slightly dry boozy, dusty caramel malts, fruit stones, bark, minerals, alcohol, toffee, paper, sawdust, cardboard, dried grain, hints of raisins. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish boozy, bark, fruit stones, caramel malts, sour grass, minerals, alcohol, paper, harsh hops, sawdust, harsh citrus peel. Longlasting harsh bitterness, boozy mouthfeel. Fair enough, needs years in the cellar...
4.1 Bottle at Toranado, SF. Rich, sweet, yeasty, like their American ales. A complex array of hops, as well. Really nice!
4.3 Bottle shared by ippopotamo36 @Luppolo Station (Rome). Thank you Alberto! Ambrata/ramata, carica, velata, schiuma bianco-sporca media. Al naso note di frutta sotto spirito, datteri secchi, sciroppo d'acero, fragoline di bosco, etilico. In bocca è dolce, rotonda, maltata, con finale di vino fortificato, ancora fragoline sotto spirito. Corpo pieno, carbonazione media. Stratosferica.
3.3 Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle from wchesser poured into a snifter. Deep golden with small white head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel malt, some what spicy rye, and some hops backbone for balance.
3.9 Pours a beautiful bright amber with a gorgeous off-white creamy head and layers of ring lacing. Aroma of ripe fruits, rye malts and caramel. Tastes quite sweet, but followed by a dry feel. Rye malt sweetness, little wood and ripe fruits. Medium body, with soft carbonation, lingering flavours, boozy and dry finish. A bit short of flavour, expected much more, but still a very good ale!
3.8 2015 vintage bottle. Pours a clear, bronze color, with a small, bubbly, white head. Lots of floaters. The aroma is sweet cherries, spruce, apricot, honeysuckle, strong cloves, and butterscotch. Medium to heavy body, with a syrupy, boozy palate. Sweet, with a lot of savory spice. Delicious and unique.
4.4 Bottle pours deep amber, lots of head retention. Beautiful. Caramel, pine, maple syrup, apples, molasses aroma. Sappy, bitter, herbal tea, hops for days, caramel, sweet honey flavor. Marketed as a Golden Special Ale, it's not so different from modern Imperial Ipas with its massive hops and caramel. I like west coast barley wines like this more than most british styles which lack the hoppy bitterness to counter the sweet syruppy booze. Bomb.
4.1 12 ounce bottle. Orange gold pour. Large foamy beige head. Complex fruity malt nose. Bittersweet toasted malt. Complex and spicy. Loads of flavor. Earthy rye, bitter hops, honey and lemon verbena. Sharp bitter notes in finish. Warming alcohol notes as well. Unusua and magnificent.
3.8 Draft at Tria Taproom. Foggy dark gold. Thick milky white foam. Complex mix of spicy and floral malts and hops. Flowers. Caramel. Figs. Dates. Nutmeg. Rye. Slightly boozy. Some plastic in the nose as it warms. Predominantly malty but with a subtle lingering hop bite.
4.0 Bottle, 2017 vintage. Sweet caramel malt aroma with notes of toffee, dark fruit, candi sugar and booze. Pours cloudy copper-golden colored with a thin off white head that has little retention or lacing. Starts with sweet caramel, toffee and dark fruit flavors as well as having a smooth body and sharp, boozy mouthfeel. Finishes smooth and dry with candi sugar sweetness as well as a warming boozy burn that linger on the palate. Really nice barleywine.

3.4 Bottle at Craigs, no head, murky with floaties oxidized orange color, aroma of citrus , caramel, nrown bread, flavor of flowers, caramel, and demerrera sugar. Nice, probably just a touch too old.
3.4 Bottle form the dregs run, cheers Craig. Pours clear dark golden. Aromas of booze, spice, light vanilla. Taste is sweet, cloying. Not sure why they bothered putting 10 hop varieties in, as none are discernible. Sweet finish.
4.3 Draft in sampler glass at the brewery. Butterscotch color, full body. Sweet malt and raisin taste, long bitter finish. Phenomenal.
3.5 Bottle: not what I intended to drink today. Looking for a refreshment & accidentally opened this. More like barley port then wine. Dense hazy copper with no head. Very flat. Heavy malty nose. Dried fruit aromas. Palate is sweet, flat and concentrated. No bitterness. Almost cloying. Not my style.
3.8 35,5cl Bottle @ La Tienda de la Cerveza, Madrid, Spain. Hazy amber colour with a thin white head. Aroma is malt, sweet, dark fruits. Taste is malt, caramel, prunes. Medium body, average carbonation.
4.2 It pours cooper and it quite clear. It has excellent head retention. The head is off white. It has aromas of rye and citrus. There is a bit of grainy sweetness to it with some caramel in the background. It has a light alcohol smell to it as well as sweet orange. It has several complex flavors including rye, citrus, and orange. There is caramel and a touch of molasses as well. It is sweet with some spiciness as well. It has a full body that has a bit of a slick texture. There is pleasant alcohol warming and the finish is sweet and semi dry. Overall, this is a wonderfully complex beer with several things going on in the flavor and aromas.
3.5 Murky golden with a white head - Malt in the aroma with just small hints of hops - Malt body with hints of hops that gives hints of bitterness - The malt goes into the finish - This was nice, was expecting better
4.3 3oz on tap @ Hair of the Dog. Pours cloudy amber with a medium head. Aroma is sweet malts with some fruity notes. Flavor is sweet malts, fruits, alcohol, hops. Soft. Great.
3.8 Bottled 355ml. -from Bierhalle Deconinck brought by kajser27, thanks. Dark golden coloured, small to medium sized white head, alcohol and light yeast in the nose. Sweet malty, alcohol, yeast, fruits and caramel with notes of spices and alcohol. Slightly too sweet and boozy in the finish but well crafted brew.
3.8 Tap@omnipollos hatt. Dark brown color with tanned head. Aroma has dark malt, caramel, ripe fruits. Taste is malty with long bitter and quite dry aftertaste. Flavors of caramel, dark malt, bitter notes, ripe fruits, alcohol.
3.3 Fra flaske. Dyb orangebrun med hvidt skum. Intens aroma af malt og humle. Fuld krop med en del bitterhed og sødme. Ikke lige min stil.
3.7 Burnt orange hue under a thin white ring of foam. Bright raisin and candi sugar aroma with a decent pale malty sweetness. Strong Belgian pale malty flavor with a load of Belgian candi sugar and a hot finish.

3.8 Alkohol: 10% obj. Batch : 96 Słody: Pilzneńskie, żytnie Chmiele: 10 różnych odmian chmieli Kolor: Pomarańczowy, mocno zamglony. Piana: Żółto-kremowa, bujna, okazała. Cały czas pozostaje na powierzchni. Powoli redukuje się do chmurki. Krążkowanie godne mistrzów. Zapach: Aromat słodki, ale stonowany. Czuć wyraźne utlenienie. W powietrzu unosi się woń miodu wielokwiatowego, kandyzowanych owoców, karmelu i toffi. Sporo akcentów słodowych i przypieczonej skórki chlebowej. W tle lekka pikantność pochodząca od żytnich słodów. Smak: W smaku przede wszystkim akcenty owoców. W pierwszym rzucie intensywne pomarańcze, grejpfruty i ich gorzkie skórki. Potem miód wielokwiatowy, toffi, dużo przypalonego karmelu. W tle masa akcentów przyprawowych, dużo chlebowych nut, pszenicy i pikantnego żyta. Zdecydowanie bliżej mu do Golden Ale, niż do Barley Wine. Ma sporo owocowych akcentów, a w szczególności skórki pomarańczy, grejpfrutowa i innych gorzkawych owoców. Dużo karmelu, toffi, nut zbożowych i chlebowych. A na koniec tuzin przyprawowych i pikantnych detali. Alko nieźle ukryte, a cala reszta po prostu OK.
3.9 12oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy brownish amber with a negligible off-white head - which disappears almost immediately. Aroma is caramel, honey, toffee, some spice, some alcohol, and a little bit of red grapefruit-y citrus. Taste is sweet; bourbon, caramel, honey, light biscuit, spice, some herbs, some pepper, a touch of yeast, and some earthy wood. It's not very fruity, but there may be just a hint of candied grapefruit and candied peach. Relatively bitter pils malt finish. Full body. Soft but active carbonation - like lively carbonation covered by a blanket. Creamy, lush mouthfeel.
3.4 Pours a clear brown from a bottle until you swish in the sediment. I'm trying to remember from earlier this evening as in the intervening time I seem to have gotten a cold, and now can no longer discern as much in the aroma and flavor. I remember it being rather complex, the barley wine sweetness quickly becoming herbally bitter. A layer of sourness from the rye was present as well. Good beer.
3.3 12 oz bottle courtesy of Rob, big thanks. Batch 98. amber cloudy color, almost no head. smells marzipan, nutty, some ripe fruits, lightly musty, caramel, very nice smell. full body, no carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes ripe fruits, caramel, honey, molasses, peppery, some yeast, rather sweet. finishes medium sweet with notes of molasses, some fruits and sweetness. uhm, I can see why this was great 15 years ago, but in 2017/18 this is rather dated. Taste is not good, no balance, too heavy. Definitly dont drink this fresh, rather sticky mess.
