Hair of the Dog Rose

Hair of the Dog Rose

Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar.
Not Brewed since 2005.

Taste is awful overly vegetable, flowers, spoiled, BE, body is likewise, totally not my thing it seems like Hair of the Dog is really not my thing besides the big classical strong recipes and their variations.
3.3 Sampled at Beavertown Extraganza. Bread, wheat, farmhouse funk. Slight spice with a understated tart finish.
3.5 Tap. Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is flowery, dough, wheat. Taste is flowery, belgian yeasts. Jammy mouthfeel, low carbonation. Good one!

3.5 Draught @ the brewery. Pours a hazy copper brown colour with a thin white head. Nose is an interesting mix... I certainly get flowery pepper, but it blends almost like another herb towards a rosemary nature. Flavour is imparting that herbal character with a sweet malty backbone with a Belgian-esque sweet influence.
3.2 Draft - Light fruity and caramel notes, cloudy copper with a decent white head, herbal and Berry sweetness with a long fruity herbal finish.
3.7 On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazed gold with a medium sized white head. Soft malt, a bit of spice, musk, yeast, fruit. Medium bodied, big malt and a bit of fruity wheat. Soft malt, big sticky plum into the finish. Sweetness. Soft malt, a bit of toast.
3.7 From old tasting notes. Labeled as "Hair of the Dog Golden Rose Belgian Triple Style Ale". Cloudy amber liquid topped by a bubbly beige head. Interesting buttery fruit malt nose. Big intense sour malt flavor has hints of yeast, grapefruit and quinine. Certain different.
3.2 On tap at the brewery. Aroma of fresh cherry skin. Flavour is as you would expect - peppercorn and cherry. However, I found it a bit sweet and reminiscent of an American tripel at its core. Decent though.
3.3 On tap at Hair of the Dog, pours a cloudy reddish amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of saison yeast upfront, with subdued peppercorns and a touch of hibiscus. Flavour is very sweet, with lots of hibiscus upfront, followed by light spiciness, and followed by heaps of saison yeast that leave considerable fruity, floral esters. Inauthentic but certainly intriguing and drinkable. Nice one.
1.6 On tap at the brewery. Murky red/brown. Looks and drinks like a V8. Textured like tomato juice. I’m not a fan of this. At all. Muddy and muddled.
4.1 Hazy orange colour, minimal off-white head; aroma of unripe peach, maybe pear, too, bready-wheaty notes and some acidic notes; taste is surprisingly sweet with although sourish notes and mild roastedness; very fruity, very biscuity, very strange...and very good
2.9 Pours hazy rosehip with a very low white head. Aromas of thyme, floral notes, spices. Taste is very weird with wheat and spice notes and some floral notes. Mouthfeel is fairly light bodied with medium carbonation.
3.2 Pours hazy raspberry rose hip with minimal head Aromas of beets, spices, bread, phenols Taste has notes of beets, spicy herbal bread, honey, phenols
3.4 Pours hazy orange copper with flat white head. Aroma of spices, beetroot, bread. Taste is funky sweet, ripe fruit and spices. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.5 Brown. Brown sugar. Flowery. Hibiscus. Subtle banana. Spicy. Tasted at the HOTD w joey.
4.1 On tap at HOTD. Colour...hazy gold with a thin head. Nose...very fruit and lithe with notes of peach, pear and apricot. Palate,..keen and bright with gobs of fruity goodness that give a big nod to the stone fruit industry. The whole of the palate is dry and tight with peach skin and pits and the finish is long and grippingz
3.6 A very nice floraly Tripel. Pours a bright orange with little head. Smells of roses and honey. Taste is bright, like a barleywine, with lots of floral notes, honey, lemon. Had on tap at the brewery.
4.1 Hair of the Dog, Portland. Deep brown-red, offset rose foam. Peppery, dark fruit tea. Robust hibiscus-sweet tea on big, smooth body. Tart carb and yeast body. Sweet peppercorn. Nice variation, tasty.
4.2 At the HofD brewery in Portland-USA. On tap. Dark cloudy ruby color. Nose: terrific! Ginger, herbs, so much eucalyptus. Mouth: chewing roses, thrilling experience!
4.0 Tap at the brewpub. A: Cloudy purple-red. Thin white head. N: Hibiscus, strawberry, pink peppercorn, cracker, vinous grape, candi sugar, coriander, some pine, esters, and clove. T: Goodly sweet, touch tart, a trace bitter. M: Medium body, no alcohol, tickling carbonation. O: Thrilled they brought this one back. It is one of my new favorites - easy to drink with a snappy fruitiness.
3.8 On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy copper with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is floral, booze, fruity malt. Medium mouth, cherry, yeast, spice, light finish, very nice.
3.8 Draft at the brewpub. Pours a deep, hazy, maroon color with a thin white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, strawberry. Medium on the palate with soft carbonation.
