Half Acre Baumé

Half Acre Baumé

Big, but not huge, this American Chocolate Rye Stout fires off a lot of coffee and chocolate notes. Balances well, but rides high on hop character at 60 IBU’s while the Rye finishes it dry.

A specialty brew. Grab it when you see it. 7% ABV.

3.5 Bomber. Pours hazy dark blackish with 2-finger frothy tan head. Nose is roasty dark malt, cacao, big resiny hops. Tastes dark malty, with notes of cacao, pine, hops, and brown sugar. Medium palate heft. Solid.
3.3 Bottle from craft ale house. Pours black with a half inch of khaki foam. Has a bit of citrus on the nose. Leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. Leans slightly to hoppiness on the tongue. Finishes clean. Solid effort.
4.0 The beer is black with an inch of beige cap. The aroma brings big dark roast, chocolate, light spice, a touch of hops. The flavor offers a big roasted malt and chocolate bill with hints of coffee and smoke. Rye character emerges mid to late palate and really adds a nice touch. Medium to full bodied and smooth. A delicious beer. I’d have this again.

4.0 Draught @ Mikkeller Bar Victoriagade. Opaqie pitch black color, small off-white to beige head. Smell malts, hops, some roast. Taste malts, roasty, quite hoppy, full bitterness. Medium to full body and carbonation. Nice one!
3.6 Draft @ Mikkeller Bar. Pours a pitch black beer with a very small tanned head on top. Aroma is quite hoppy, grapefruit and licorice. Flavor is bittersweet, much like a black IPA. Big on the licorice and hops in the background. Light lingering, bitter finish. Nice balance, nice brew
3.8 Draught @ Mikkeller Bar Aroma has hay, deep-ish roasted tones, cocoa and semi-dark chocolate. Flavour has roastiness, cocoa, semi-dark chocolate and coffee tones, Nice, I like the roastiness level of this stuff. The hops take a bit over a the end of the glass.
4.1 Bottle. Appearance: Opaque black body with a short light tan head that forms a soft coating with a messy big bubbled ring. Aroma: The aroma smells of milk chocolate and rye, slightly spicy and slightly sweet with a slight chalkiness to it and a whiff of roasted malts. This smells pretty lovely actually. Taste: The flavor is nicely balance with a piney bitterness, rye and semi-sweet chocolate. Nothing really stands out more than the next, this just drinks nicely with the flavors harmoniously working together. The finish has a slightly chalky chocolate flavor that’s enjoyable. I actually really enjoy this. Palate: Slightly chewy, near full-bodied, with mild to moderate carbonation. Overall: I was not expecting to like this very much. I generally don’t like hoppy stouts and I’m not really a fan of rye, but this marries the characteristics of each in the best way possible.
3.0 Bottle the size of fat pigeon .. . Pours a dark brown .. Table leg foam .. . Mild roast and deep grain . . Solid on all points just not interesting .. . . These eggs have yellow eyes

3.6 bottle. medium bodied black pour. Lots of roasted maltiness upfront, undderlying coffee & chocolate. rye seems to tke aback seat to stout aspects here. Nice stout
3.4 Tap @Mikkeller Bar, CPH Dark opaque black color, steady beige head. Hayish and toasted aroma. Medium-bodied. Some citrus, taosted notes, feels more like black IPA than stout.
3.9 Sampled from a 0.65l bottle @ Top Hops (BA) Bottle Share. This is a deep dark brown one - near black in the glass and it has a small bubbly beige top that’s only leaving minimal lacings down the sides. The nose is minty, some chocolate, still coffee, espresso and chocolate cake frosting. Nice! It has a soft carbonation level and a thin oily mouthfeel. Really nice flavors. Some herbal coffee, chocolate and cocoa nibs. Lingering in the aftertaste. Quite a nice one! Actually, I haven’t had a bad or boring beer in way to long now. 15.06.2013
3.7 Tap at 2013 GTMW, pours black with a nice light brown head and some lacing in the glass, the aroma was pretty sweet with a good amount of chocolate and coffee coming through, the rye wasn’t very noticeable to me on the nose but was really present in the flavor, sweet chocolate front end with spice and rye in the finish with some hops in there as well, pretty different but enjoyable.
3.6 22 ounce bottle. Pours a dark brown with a khaki head. Aroma is hoppy and rye forward. A bit spicy and earthy.
4.1 Really impressive stout from Half Acre. Pours very thick and oily (8.3 degrees baume, natch) with a thin but bubbly brown head. Rye finish adds some slight spice, generously hopped as the label promises. Delicious!
3.7 Draught @ Mikkeller Bar. Pours brownish black with a creamy and frothy moch head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of trace and lacing on the glass.
