Half Acre GoneAway IPA

Half Acre GoneAway IPA

GoneAway is a western charged firecracker. We conjured the classics and then laid them on a bed of pale malt. This India Pale Ale shoots straight to the bitter edge before falling into a mellow haze. Deep gold and ready to travel into the distance.

Admin Note - This beer was previously known as "Heyoka" and "Senita" but has been changed by the brewery to this current name. All ratings will be housed under this listing.

4.4 Can dated 8/30/18. Solid IPA with citrus, bitter, herbal. "Thats the way it goes"
3.9 can - nice golden orange color. Sweet hop aroma. Very good sweetness from the nice balance of hops. Good stuff.
3.7 9/18/18 (Chicago): $7 20 oz pour into Nonic glass at Half Acre Balmoral Ave. Outdoor area. Light golden clear pour, moderate carbonation, quickly dissipating white head, thin lacing remains. Very sharp hops, citrus and pine aroma, most excellent. Full flavored IPA. Hops and citrus, balanced taste, though lighter than the aroma. Very light, not bitter, nominally dry mouth feel, thin mouth feel, carbonation cleared quickly. Overall good pour.
3.8 Appearance- golden with a 1-finger white foamy head. Aroma- orange, pineapple, citrus fruit, hops, hint of tropical fruit. Taste- lots of fruity hops, grapefruit, pine, pithy fruit, marmalade, juicy, fluffy malt undertones. Understated bitterness.
3.7 16oz can. Poured a slightly hazy golden with a fluffy white head that left a ton of lacing on my sam glass. Absolutely nothing wrong with this one. Excellent IPA with tropical fruit notes and a hint of pine. Well done.
3.6 Can. Pours golden brown with a light haze and a small head. Aroma is caramel malts, pine resin and grapefruit. Medium bodied, oily, resiny texture. Soft carbonation. Finish is long and moderate bitter.
3.3 CBC2016S03, pours yellow with a small head, aroma of floral, honey, caramel, toffee, flavor is bitter with toffee, wax, medium bodied
3.4 Pint can. Nose room-filling tropical rind and juice. Pour utterly clear, rich golden with above-average carbonation and a too-large foamy off-white head. Taste very oily and alcohol, musky with strong spice, some mild astringency, medium bitterness, light sweetness that eventually fades. Orange, grapefruit, tangerine, strongly floral. Juicy, yes, but much more about sweaty oil intermingling with alcohol. Thin body, crackery malts with sun, somewhat milder pine, resin. A totally different stylistic interpretation but rings the bell like those West Coast boozers form 15 years ago. [2018.04.25: 3.4]
3.4 Pale orange cloudy pour with an inch of fluffy white head, lots of lacing. Scent is foremost tropical pineapple, with some juicy tangerine citrus and fresh pine. Soft carbonation, average mouthfeel, clean finish. Taste has all the elements of the nose, with a bit more bitter hops, herbals too. Really nice balanced IPA with good balance of sweet and bitter, and a nice amount of complexity.
3.8 On tap at World of Beer near UCF in Orlando, Fla. Pours clear yellow with huge white soap bubble head that quickly settles to a spritz, leaving behind lots of clingy lacing. Aroma: faint tropical and citrus fruits. Flavor: mango, papaya, melon, pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, pine. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied, slick finish.
4.2 Can from Beer Gonzo Webshop, Earlsdon, Coventry, consumed at home Wednesday 28th March 2018. Hazy mid gold with a large foamy white head. Lovely bitterness, juicy but then well balanced bittersweet leading to a dry finish. Plenty of hops, loads, pine resin, but with a big dose of of grapefruit (sweet). This is a marvellous beer. 4.1 Delicious! Floral, with grass, and barnyard flavors. Light, yet 7%. Pours beautifully, and has a great head. A classic, very nearly perfectly executed IPA. Will drink again.
3.9 473ml can. Clear golden with a medium off-white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, resin, pale malts. Taste citrus fruits, grapefruit, light sweet pale malts, pine, resin, caramel, moderate bitterness. Medium body, smooth, soft carbonation. Really nice clean well balanced old school IPA.
3.4 8th March 2018 Can. Almost clear gold beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is light and mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Thin malts, lightly sweet. Tangy citrus, little metallic. Mild spice. Little mango. Light tangy finish. If you bought me a pint of this, I would drink it, but for a US IPA, it's curiously unsatisfying.
3.8 Can from Cotteridge Wines; clear golden amber pour with a bubbly off white head, aroma has pine and citrus, taste has sweet malt action along with light pine, hint of spice some grapefruit, mellow bitterness.
3.6 Canned 8/30/17, drunk 10/6/17. Lightly hazy, bright, blonde-golden body topped by a small-to-medium-sized white head with modest retention. Fruity nose shows light earth, dusty, herbal hops with growing lemon zest, mango and light pine. Very, very fruity, quite bright albeit for light pine and grapefruit pith with sparse, crackery malt, but still enough to add some balance. Clean, balanced, aromatic. In the mouth it's soft, lightly juicy, very fruity (apples, pears, peach, mango, orange, lemon) with a strong dryness although still having enough of a malt backbone to provide good texture. Low but engaging carbonation, clean, low on the resin (though a touch of pine and grapefruit sharpness does emerge) and no alcohol noted.
3.7 Can at the Small Bar, Bristol. Golden, clear with little visible carbonation. Lots of sharp tropical fruit of the nose, some dried grass, floral notes and spicy, almost meaty hop. Taste is sweet at first, but follows up with a reasonably bitter finish. Hard citrus peel and a touch of banana in the aftertaste. It's fairly basic for an IPA but very well made.
4.3 Pint canned 01/22/2018, Thanks Party Bob! Mostly clear golden-amber with nice legs and a sticky cobweb of foam. Aroma of papaya, grapefruit, pineapple, caramel and resin. Flavors are a smooth blend of the same mix plus some Fruit Loops cereal and a bit of spicy herb. Smooth low-medium carbonation in this almost-medium bodied brew. Very sessionable balance without all the super bitterness and astringency of some in the style.
2.5 Can. Pours hazy orange with a thick long lived white head. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, orange and spice. H over flavour is bitterness bit a little thin and minimal bodied.
2.0 Thin, bitter and nowt much else. I've seen a lot people rave about this beer and I have no idea why... It's just bad
3.9 Can. Beer Central, Sheffield. Medium gold colour, with a soft haze. Thin, fully lacing, lasting, white head. Nose has sweet grain. Pine needle. Some pink grapefruit. Bit of dank juice, which doesn’t mean anything, but it’s smelling pretty good and punchy. Taste is straight up bitter. Grapefruit juice and pithy orange. Touch of peppery spice. Smooth mouthfeel, with an easy drinking character. Soft carbonation. Pithy bitterness to finish. Nice one.
3.7 Can from Bottlecraft, Hanley. Pours a clear golden colour with a medium off white head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange, some pine, subtle caramel and slight spicy, herbal hops. Taste of pine, grapefruit, some resin, orange, a hint of phenols, subtle caramel and slight spicy, herbal hops. Medium bodied and an oily texture. A lingering, dry, piney and resinous hop bitterness in the finish. Another classic style beer from these guys. Citrusy, piney/resinous and herbal hopped with a assertive bitterness.
3.9 Can from Hops and Crafts Exeter. Pours almost clear pale gold with a white head. Aroma of mandarin,,grapefruit rind ,pine, passionflower tangerine & orange blossom. Taste of orange, bitter lemon, biscuit & some grapefruit. Light bodied, slightly oily mouthfeel with good carbonation. The finish is nicely bitter & dry with more orange, lemon, biscuit & grapefruit.
3.4 Can from Cork & Cask. Hazy golden body with a thick off-white head. Steady carbonation. Steady carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of grapefruit and orange. Flavour of steel and grapefruit. Thin to medium body with an oily texture. Light fizz. Simple and bitter. Decent.
3.6 Draft to taster in a flight at Madtree during the anniversary week festivities. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted pale malts, caramel, citrus and tropical fruit with a splash of resin and dank hops, finish was a bit soft, good.
3.9 This beer is pretty good. It comes from Chicago. Looks like a beer. Taste like a beer. Drinks like a beer. I like it.
3.6 Can from Downtown wine and spirits Hazy light golden color with a decent bubbly white head that slowly dissipates and leaves some stickies on the way down. Lots of citrus pine and resin with bits of mineral water and some faint bready malt. Decent beer, but not smooth in any way light aspirin bitterness.
3.9 Nicefrothy lasting head. Soft hop on nose and on the tongue. Fruity. But missing a lot of flavor that I would hope for. Almost more boozy than good flavors. Meh. Not a huge fan. Solid but much better options in Chicago.
4.0 16 ounce can. Medium gold pour is topped by a large creamy white cap with lustrous lacing. Fragrant, bright citrus bouquet reminiscent of tangerine and peach. Soft fruity, caramel malt palate. Notes of orange, lemon and pineapple. Lots of citrus, lots of juice, lots of flavor. Fine she's with a hint of bitter grapefruit and pine. A well done mid-western IPA.
3.9 Poured from a tall boy can. Great golden color with a creamy white head. Big aroma of pine and resin. Nice dank undertones. Taste starts bitter and stays that way. Underneath is a solid caramel malt backbone. Good mouth feel throughout followed by a nice, long finish. Very good.
