Half Acre Navaja

Half Acre Navaja

This is the first time we’ve brought this out of its scabbard. We’ve never released a Double IPA - and this will make its debut at our 5th Anniversary Party on 5/17. Attacking your ability to make good choices, this bully quickly becomes your best friend.

Navaja is a Double IPA that changes each time we brew it, unless we don’t change it. This go-round is a little more aggressive. Heavy on Citra, Mosaic, and Columbus hops and Golden Promise malt; Navaja is a shredder rotating on all cylinders.

4.2 Bomber can. Poured a golden color with a medium sized head. Juicy, fruity, citrus, and just nice and hoppy and drinkable. I want more.
4.2 Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 1/29/2018. Pours lightly hazy deep golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, bread dough, light honey/caramel/toast, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, bread dough, light honey/caramel/toast, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, bread dough, light caramel/toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 10%. Overall this is a fantastic DIPA! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV; with the modestly bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank hop complexity; nice bready malt backbone, not overly sweet/heavy for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering, loved the hop profile as expected. Apparently Citra, Mosaic, Columbus hops; and Golden Promise malt.
4.0 473ml can. Clear golden amber with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus fruits, grapefruit, resin, pine, sweet malts, alcohol. 3.8 8th March 2018 Can. Almost clear gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light, mildly dry and has a decent fine crispness. Light smooth malts, very light creamy sweetness. Hops bring a tangy spicy bitterness overlaid with soft orange and mild mango led tropical fruits. Good cooling pine. Smooth spicy bitter fruity finish. I could do without the mild tang but otherwise very good.
3.7 Can. Unclear golden body with a disappearing white head. Strong aroma with lots of citric fruit, some grapefruit, pine and malt. Flavor is sweet, but not sticky malt, lots of fruit like aroma, peach, grapefruit and good bitterness. The high alcohol is quite hidden. Fine body and long lasting fruity bitterness. Nice one.
3.8 Can from Cotteridge Wines; slightly hazed amber pour with a thin white head, aroma has sweet marmalade and pine, taste has caramel, deep pine, tangerine, sweet fruits in syrup, got some sticky fingers from drinking it, abv is well cloaked, quality beverage.

3.8 Can at home, picked up at Beermerchants tap, 24/02/18. Almost clear orange amber with a decent egg shell white cap. Nose is gentle pine, floral notes, sticky tropicana, honeydew melon, mandarin, light candied fruits, caramel. Taste comprises orange pith, sweet malts, pine resin, Um Bongo, soft breads, red grapefruit, melon. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, seim aggressive hop bitterness and a light boost offered in the close. Solid well balanced DIPA.
3.5 Keg at Beer Merchants. It pours clear orange with a medium bubbly white head. The aroma is fragrant, floral, touch of orange peel, tangerine, melon and apricot. The taste is dry, big hit of bitterness, pithy, zesty, soapy citrus, orange rind, peppery spice, hay, florals, tangerine, toasty grain, white bread and some alcohol heat with a drying finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. I expected a bit more depth of flavour reallym decent enough, but no game changer.
3.9 Keg at Bottlecraft, Hanley. A hazy golden colour with a medium white head. Aroma of orange, passionfruit, papaya, some grapefruit, pine, slight onion, a little crackery malt and subtle herbal hops. Taste of orange, passionfruit, papaya, maybe peach, guava, some grapefruit, pine, slight onion, a little crackery malt and subtle herbal hops. A lingering, dry, slightly dank, herbal hop bitterness in the finish. A full flavoured DIPA, as you would expect from a 10% beer. Lots of tropical fruit and citrus flavours without been too sweet and bitter. Well balanced.
3.8 Tap. Poured clear golden color with a large frothy white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex citrus hop and malt aroma. Medium to full body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy citrus bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

4.1 16floz can, COD: 04.20.2017, $4 for a single, poured into some kind of imperial pint glass. This beer is a beast. It appears hazy, light-orange and adorned with an off-white head. Smell is an amalgamation of tropical citrus fruits, and tastes bitterly so with an underlying sweetness too. I don’t usually go crazy for hyper hopped beers, but this tastebud ripper is worthwhile stuff. Definitely a double IPA, it’s not playing around.
3.9 From tap at MBCC 2017. An amber coloured beer with an off-white head. Aroma and flavour of hops, malt, grapefruit, citrus and oranges.
3.9 Can. Hazy golden body with a creamy white head that laces the top half of the glass. Big tropical fruit-- mango, guava-- with piney undertones, pale crackery malts, oily body with a touch of resin, and a long bitter finish.
4.2 Served on tap at Half Acre. Clear golden amber color with a white head. Nice tropical fruit and hops aroma. Complex hops mango a little resin flavor. Medium heavy body.
