This brown beer is a hybrid concoction brewed with malt heft and all around backbone. A styleless wonder.

3.9Toffee, caramel, fruit and citrus aroma. Pours a brown/orange color with an off white head and decent lacing. Nice malty, bready sweetness some dark fruit character. Tasty kinda like bock grain bill meets American hops maybe English yeast
3.4Tap at Half Acre Tap Room, Chicago. Poured a clear dark reddish brown with a thin broken white head. The aroma is weak dry yeast with a medium bitter flavour and a hop spice weak liqourice bitter nutty crisp yeast palate. It grew on me over time.
3.4Draft at Half Acre taproom. Pours clear amber brown with a small tan head. Aroma of malt, toffee and fruity hops. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.116oz can from Deli Lama. Surprised I have never rated before. Pours a brownish tan with a tan head leaving lots of spotty lacing. Aroma has stone fruits citrus and pale malt. Taste is off sweet toffee fruit some bitter lemon and some bread. Light and sweet - has a bit of a gingerale component to it.
3.6Draft from booth at the WEFTEC 2013 show in Chicago, IL 10/07/2013. Very good.
3.5Pours very dark. Some caramel and maltiness. A bit roasty also. Moderate hop bitterness. A fairly dry finish. Nice.
3.0Always been an interesting beer. I think it has many layers of flavors...maybe nuts maybe light smoke... It's a change up from their aggressive hop beers , which are amazing, this turns that down but still has a slight presence in the taste... Slight... Thanks half acre...
3.3Draft at brewery. The pour is a nice deep brown with a thick head. The aroma is mostly nutty. The taste smooth, but not overly flavorful.
3.2On tap. Pour is dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, and bread. Flavor is more hoppy than expected, but much like the aroma. Dry finish, medium to high carbonation levels. Tastes like an APA mixed with a Brown Ale.
3.516 oz can, thanks Ryan. Cola garnet-black, nitro-style frothy tan head without the nitro; big lacing. Aroma has black malt character, with chocolate, the slightest hint of roast and coffee, nutty sweetness, light toffee, yeasty tang. Flavor similar, with a light bitterness; finish is predominantly chocolate and bitter roast. Mouthfeel is also not much past cola; soft, full carbonation borders on fizzy. Seems like a nut brown / black ale hybrid to me. Decent enough beer, I guess, but a bit boring.
3.47/28/2011: Half Acre Over Ale... Aroma: Dried leaves, bread crust and just enough caramel maltiness to lend some sugar; mild earthy-tea hops Appearance: Jewel-like brown color with churning head of beige-colored bubbles. Flavor: Muted maltiness with a bit of roast/coffee influence; floral, dried tea, dry earthy hops and mild to moderate bitterness; plenty of hops without becoming overly bitter; slightly metallic and dry in the finish. Palate: Medium-bodied; smooth, almost cask-like; really nice mouthfeel and perfect for the style. Overall: Good ESB with some character; I’m liking it!
1 pin can shared by alexsdad06. Thanks Brad! Rating #138 for this beer.
2.2this is a brown? reminds me of a amber. way to hoppy to be a brown. nuttiness is thin and one dimensional. pretty bland.
3.4Pours a deep copper/amber that’s really very nice. 2 finger head that won’t go away Aroma is all coffee with just a touch of alcohol - odd in a beer so low abv. good creamy mouthfeel. Slight hop flavor up front, but not a ton of deep bitterness. Finishes sweet and just a touch hazelnutty. I don’t really know what style this is supposed to be - maybe an underhopped amber? It’s tasty, but doesn’t really fit anything
3.116 oz. can. Dark mahogany color with small off white head. Aroma is mostly malt (nutty) and yeast. Flavor is roasted grain, light toffee and a light hop bitterness on the back end of the sip. Body is appropriate for the style, soft carbonation, balanced sweet and bitter. The overall impression of the beer is good. However, it just seems a tad boring. I appreciate the classic brewing of the style (nothing is out of place here) perhaps my beer ego has reached a new level. Maybe I have now escalated into a whole new snob category….
3.0On draft. Amber Brown with thin head. Immediately smell the malty nuttiness of this. Smells almost like a Scotch ale but upon sipping it is lighter bodied and not quite as nutty as a brown ale. Sweet all the way through with a slight bitter aftertaste. No real hop presence here. This would be a good beer for the fall...a little too thick feeling for my summertime night.
3.4From a 16 oz can. Aroma is caramel, chocolate, and light pine. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, caramel, and light pine. This beer is decent, not really a brown ale guy. The flavors are all pretty light in general. Worth trying if your a fan of half acre.!
3.216oz can. Pours a medium brownish red color with almost zero head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, and raisins. Taste is light roasted coffee, caramel, slightly woody, with light bitterness.
3.2Tap @ Half Acre with TheAlum. Pours a reddish brown appearnce with a light brown head. A touch nutty, caramel, a bit spicy hoppy aroma. Well balanced, toasty malty, a bit citrusy hoppy flavor. Not my favorite but pretty easy to drink.
3.5Pours brown with a reddish-orange hue. Aroma is faint with malts, dark fruit, coffee, and chocolate. Taste is better...carmel malts and bread. Very drinkable.
3.6On tap at Half Acre, Brown pour with some red, off white head. Light Aroma of malt and nuts, taste is some malt and a bit of coffee/chocolate.
3.3Can from Oak Tree, A nice brown, with a little sour finish. Above average mouthfeel. Light brown colour, nicely hoppy.Malty aroma.
2.7Tap. Brown with small head. Sweet malt, slightly syrupy. Eh. I’ve had much, much better.
3.3Pours reddish brown with off white head. Aroma is nut, floral and roast chocolate. Taste is sweet with some acidic undertones. Medium bodied.
3.5Can. Deep copper with a thick white head. Malt heavy and chocolate. Carmely finish.
3.2From a can poured an amber color with a good amount of head. Nice hoppy flavor with a lingering aftertaste.
2.28th July 2012
Cloudy brown beer, little bubbly off white head. Slightly crisp palate. Malt and minerals. Trace amount of citrus. Dry finish. Deathly dull.
3.3Pounder can from Capone’s. Pours turbid mahogany with 2-finger khaki head. Nose is earthy vienna malt, not much else. Tastes of vienna/munich brown malt, earthy notes, nuts, mild hops. Fair complexity for a brown ale. A good example of a somewhat boring style.
3.6Medium, pale brown with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is hoppy, pine, light malt, a bit of sweetness. Medium thin body. Flavor is more hop than malt. Pine, citrus, and a bit of caramel malt with light chocolate. Solid brown but a little too hoppy for my tastes.
3.5Deep coppery brown color with an off-white head. Very balanced with sweet malty flavors and crisp hops in the finish. Nice and punchy.
4.016 ounce can into pint glass, no canning date. Pours lightly hazy reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, toast, brown sugar, nuttiness, light roast, brown bread, slight pine, and floral hops. Very nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity. Taste of chocolate, caramel, toast, nuttiness, brown sugar, brown bread, light roast, light pine, and earthy floral hops. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, toast, light roast, brown bread, brown sugar, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice flavor balance, robustness, and complexity; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and very smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice brown ale! Very nice balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
