Hangar 24 Chocolate Bomber

Hangar 24 Chocolate Bomber

Rich, decadent and full-bodied. The intense, roasted malt flavor is derived from two types of chocolate malt and raw cocoa nibs. Whole vanilla beans introduced post-fermentation adds complexity and enhance the dessert-like qualities.

As depicted on the label, this full-bodied beer salutes American pilots who airdropped packages of chocolate into post-WWII Berlin, bringing joy and community together in the face of adversity. We’ve partnered with Food For The Hungry who we consider to be the “chocolate bombers” of today, delivering regular food rations and non-food items to the struggling people of South Sudan who are in desperate need.

3.9 I feel Hangar 24 is highly underrated. In the case of their chocolate porter it makes the A-list. The appearance is a rich dark brown to near black color with a creamy light tan head. The aroma is baker’s chocolate, earth, vanilla, and roasted grain. On the taste I get bitter cocoa, lubricated by vanilla with a long and strong bitter robust finish.
4.0 BOTTLE. Dark brown pour with fluffy tanned head.. Soft dark malts, choc & vanilla is subtle, some booze as it warms.. Soft milk chocolate hit up front, rolls to solid dark malts finishing choc/vanilla combo & a hint of coffee.. Sourced Cape Cellars
4.8 One of my favorite all-time beers! Tasty to the max, full-flavored, easy to drink and enjoy porters. All the flavors of chocolate, vanilla and banana are easily recognizable. Just a really good beer to enjoy.
2.3 [ bottle ][ 1.5oz ][ @Tasting ][ $ ? ][ schnapps snifter ][ 01.09.15 ] hazy sepia, thin white ring. Dusty grain and banana ester nose, heavy peppery brightness. Burnt chocolate sweetness up front with sticky papery oxidation mid before the muted, watery brown malt finish.
3.7 Bottle. Dark brown, very clear with small head and pretty nice lacing. Aromas of chocolate, rosted malts and coffee, could have been stronger... Medium body with pleasant oily mouth feel. In taste rosted malts and coffee with bitterness in finish. Some sweet, vanila in the background. Very drinkable for it’s 8%.
3.7 Bottle @ home. Opaque dark brown color with a dark red glare coming through when held into the light, medium to full sized beige to light brown head. Aroma is malts, cocoa, chocolate and a hint of dark grapes and raisins. Taste malts, chocolate, cocoa, a slight hint of vanilla and raisins, a slight hint of grapepeel and a decent bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation. A bit thinner texture - wise as to what I had expected. Nice though.
3.0 Bottle from Whole Foods, Santa Monica. Dark brown with a medium head. Aroma of light chocolate, malt and some "earth". Similar taste, also with some vanilla. Drinkable but nothing special.
2.0 @ Cal Mar Hotel 16-3-13: Lite unken doft. Ganska tunn smak med endast små toner av choklad och lite vanilj.
3.6 650ml bottle. Dark brown colour with ruby red glimmer and average, thick, creamy, fairly lasting and lacing, beige head. Chocolately, dark malty aroma, hints of milk chocolate, some dark chocolate, cocoa, an earthy spicy touch of blueberry and liquorice. Taste is slightly sweet dark malty, chocolately, dry hints of cocoa, a touch of blueberry and liquorice; rich, full bodied, integrated, slightly sticky palate.
3.2 Some roast and light chocolate. Pours dark brown with good head and lacing. Light sweet finish. Bottle shared at tasting.
3.2 Translucent mahogany body with a touch of crimson. Malty, nutty, earthy, brown bread aroma. Chocolate presence isn’t especially assertive. Dry finish. Light-medium body. Pretty good.
3.4 Bottle. Clear brown color, tan head. Aroma of cocoa. Taste has coffee grounds, cocoa powder.
3.6 Pours a near black color with a khaki head. Chocolate, caramel, toffee, roasty malt, coffee and toast aroma. Chocolate, unroasted coffee, vanilla, toast, caramel, toffee, funk, herbal hop and roasty malt flavors. Medium full body and moderate carbonation. Unroasted coffee, toast and vanilla finish.
3.5 Bottle pours deep brown/black with a thick beige head. Aroma shows heavy roast with notes of cocoa, coffee, molasses, alcohol, and earthy hops. Flavor is fairly sweet with notes of cocoa, burnt peanut brittle, anise, overripe dark fruit, and a touch of vanilla. Overall body is moderate, sweet and the finish is somewhat astringent with a definite alcohol presence.
3.8 Batch 24 on draft at KnB Wine Cellar in San Diego, CA. March, 2013. Pitch black and opaque with a 1.5 finger beige head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind. Slightly chalky aroma with cocoa powder, roasted malt and sweet dessert-like notes. Lots of chocolate in the nose along with cocoa nib, coffee bean and caramel sweetness. On the fuller end of medium body with a nice balance of roasted malt, coffee bean, bittersweet dark chocolate and toffee. Strong chocolate presence, dark and sweet, with robust coffee bean flavor but it never becomes overly roasted or dry. Very nicely balanced and easy to drink with no noticeable alcohol/heat.
3.7 Bottle. Dark brown beer with a nice lasting beige head. Roasted chocolate and cocoa powder aroma, licorice, coffee nots, caramel, Bready, some dark chocolate. Chocolate flavor, licorice, vanilla notes, caramel, coffee notes. Quite nice.
3.6 Pours a deep brownish black from the bomber with thin bubbly tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of dark chocolate, earthy hop notes, a hint of soy, and fruity yeast. Taste follows with just a hint of vanilla in the middle. Solid, not sure it’s fresh, but good stuff.
4.0 22oz bomber pours with a mahogany colored body that supports a dark tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a smooth thin spike of dark fruity esters and then chocolate followed by an earthy malt note and dark roasted almost coffee like maltiness. The taste delivers nice dark roasted malts blended evenly with chocolate and then rolling toward smooth sweet vanilla. It gets a little molasses candy here and there as it heads toward the finish. Nice.
3.6 Bottle that I had put in the freezer and forgot about it till I got back from swimming in LT. Good thing high ABV kept it from freezing. Pours a very dark brown color and nice tan head. Milk chocolate and cream on the nose. Mouthfeel is silky smooth and creamy on the tongue. The flavor is creamy chocolate and some vanilla. As usual, better and creamier as it warms. Had again in Scottsdale 5/01/2019 still good!
3.1 Dark with beige head. Chocolate and sweet booze. Full bodied. Silky smooth. A bit too sweet for me. Decent.
4.3 22 bomber to cervoise. Pours dark brown with short tan head. Aroma of chocolate, sweet malts and candied dark fruit. Taste is same with roasty toasty malts and smooth semi bitter finish. A little heat in the finish. Good but typical porter.
3.7 From a bomber. Pours dark but brown with a fizzy beige head. Tastes like sweet chocolate, roasted malt, rich coffee, syrup, molasses, and burnt toast. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Smells like chocolate, syrup, molasses, burnt toast, and toasted malt.
3.7 Bottle. Pours cola brown with frothy beige head. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts, earthy hops, light spice, and faint caramel. Flavor is rich and malty with strong chocolate notes, light roast, faint coffee, and light earthy bitterness. Medium body.
3.7 Dark brown pour from 22oz bottle at the Lakehouse. Mild coffee and chocolate flavor. It's easy drinking but nothing I would race about.
3.3 22 ounce bottle. Pours dark brown with a nice tan head. Aroma of malt and chocolate. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, and some coffee. If only it lived up to the label description.
3.2 22oz bomber from www.craftbeerkings.com, thanks online shop. Poured a thinner bodied deep dark blackish brown with a smaller off white head. Aroma of cream, chocolate malts, cola, touch of soy. Flavor is a bit stronger with soy sauce, cola, bakers bitter chocolate, citrus acid, black olives, rotting banan peel. Body is a bit on the thin side for an 8% porter, softer carbonation and an average aftertaste.
3.2 Bottle. Thin head that disappears quickly. Faint but pleasant aroma. Tastes nice, but I didn’t get much chocolate.
3.5 Clearish brown. Chocolatey aroma, some roast malt. Chocolate and sweet brown sugar, with a lightly smoky base. Decent but thin.
3.6 22oz bottle. Dark brown color with beige head. Chocolate and coffee bean aroma. Coffee bean taste with a little strong aftertaste. Very nice one.
3.4 Tapp på Bottle Rock, LA. Svart med beige skum. Väldigt svag doft av choklad och lite kaffe. Smak av kaffe, choklad och fruktig syrlighet. Lång bra eftersmak av kaffe och choklad.
