Hangar 24 Iconic Double IPA

Hangar 24 Iconic Double IPA

Assertive and drinkable. Iconic is a Hangar 24 gift to Hop-Heads. This double IPA is brewed with four unmistakable American hops: Centennial, Citra, Columbus and Simcoe. All beautifully balanced by five malts with generous additions of local orange blossom honey. An intense sensory experience from the fresh aroma of citrus, pine and grapefruit with bold taste of hops and sweet honey.

3.9 Bottle in Las Vegas. Hazy yellow pour, thin white head. Aroma of fruity hops, resin, pine, grapefruit and some citrus. Flavor is quite bitter, fruity and smooth. Very easy drinkable and lovely balance.
3.8 Draught in Visalia. Hazy pale orange with full white head. Aroma and flavor hops are a tribute to American west coast brewing. Vibrant citrus and slight pine. Tasty. Earlier Rating: 4/3/2014 Total Score: 3.8 On tap at Gourmet Haus. Strong grapefruit dominates nose with slight pine and solid cracker malt in support. Hazy gold with a full white head that lingers. Flavor is dominated by citrus with a pine background. Wheat cracker malt leads to a medium mouthfeel. slight alcohol warmth.
3.8 7 June 2016, tap. yellow, clear, occasional bubbles. nose is mild orange rind citrus. med body and moderately fizzy. orange rind and some bitter grass. mild alcohol, mild bitter finish, sufficiently sweet to almost balance the beer but allowing a slightly more bitter taste. nice. Earlier Rating: 9/17/2011 Total Score: 4.2 16 Sept 2011, bottle. light yellow, faintly cloudy, no bubbles. grapefruit w/ sugar. not terribly bitter but enough. med body and mildly fizzy. slightly sweet, slightly bitter white grapefruit. sweet alcohol. some malty body but big hops. fantastic
3.7 Draft at Angel’s Trumpet. Bright yellow with just a hint of foam topping. Tart and citric all the way, holding its weight nicely. Well proportioned. (#6182, 5/15/2016)
3.1 On tap at Beer Baron. It pours a clear light golden color with a white head. The aroma is pretty light with some bready malt, hints of chemicals, mango and pineapple. The flavor also has some chemicals, herbs, flowers and a little honey. Medium bodied with medium bitterness. A rare miss for Hangar 24. Earlier Rating: 4/24/2011 Total Score: 3.7 On tap at the brewery. It pours bright orange with a disappearing off white head. The aroma is honey and malt with some citrusy hop presence. the flavor is balanced with honey and slightly doughy malt, bitter pine and citrus in the finish. Well balanced IIPA.
2.4 On tap Beer Revolution. Clear orange-amber beer with a white head. This is really quite bland. Disappointing. A little bit of butterscotch, some toffee, and toasted malt. A bit of citrus peel, some pine, wood, and floral hops. Kind of flat and lackluster in terms of the mouthfeel, too. A lot of tea. Pretty subtle in terms of the citrus and fruit components here. Unfortunate since I usually like Hangar 24 and they’ve made some good hoppy beers lately. Earlier Rating: 4/3/2011 Total Score: 3.8 A: The pour is a slightly hazed golden orange color with a finger of white head. S: Nice citrus hops, particularly grapefruit and tangerine, along with some tropical fruit notes of pineapple and mango. Somewhat sweet, but there is still a nice pine note. Not really any maltiness. T: Piney hops are noticeable throughout the sip and provide a sufficient bitterness. Lots of fruit notes between the citrus of grapefruit, oranges, and tangerines and the tropical notes. Perhaps just a bit of bready malt. M: Medium in body with a moderate carbonation and a solid bitterness on the back end. O: Solid double IPA here, but quite under the radar, like a lot of Hangar 24 beers are.
3.7 Second recovery beer. This has the hop aroma of a double ipa. The flavor is medium strong and medium hoppy. Not their best Earlier Rating: 1/10/2011 Total Score: 3.7 A not aggressive, but very good-smelling hop aroma. The flavor is almost all bittering hops and a wallop of alcohol. Needs a bit more balance.
3.9 12oz bottle pours with a nearly clear deep gold body that supports a thin dirty white head. The modest aroma offers up tangerine, cantaloupe, pineapple and then a thin blend of garlic and earthy tea. The taste delivers pineapple, cantaloupe and tangerine that gets both juicy and bitter. To midway it picks up floral hops, spicy garlic and then a thin ring of pine like resiny hops. This has a bit of a different hop profile, at least that’s how it seems, and it’s working pretty well. I’d drink this again, no problem. Earlier Rating: 4/1/2012 Total Score: 4 Bomber pours hazy deep gold with copper hues and tan head. The aroma offers up spicy hops, some bitter smelling floral hops, earthy hops and then a bit of a soapy like sensation. The taste delivers bold spicy hops and then is found running into some resiny bitterness that takes on a pine hop like note. Into the finish modest sweet malts come to the surface to help ground the hoppy goodness. Solid IIPA.
4.8 Aromas of berries, grass, hints of honey. Taste goes bitter, and lasts very long.
3.9 Tap at The Yard House, Vegas, 8th November 15. Pours yellow, aroma is bitter hops, floral notes. Taste hits the spot, good hops, some pine, citrus, very drinkable
3.5 Bottle at home - thanks to Jørgen - at Beer, Food & Sahe Bukkake Night. Clear yellow/golden - white head. Nice hoppy. Grape fruity. Sweet notes. High bitterness. A bit old hops. OK.
3.6 Bottle at Theis & Mette. Hazy amber colored with a small white head. Fruity aroma of caramel and hops with notes of citrus and pine needles. Fruity flavor of hops, caramel and pine needles with notes of citrus. Hoppy finish.
3.8 Light straw color with bright white head. Nice tropical aroma from the hops. Up front this beer is bitter but not too much. Lighter malts let the hops shine. Hides it’s 9% alcohol. There is a hint of honey as well and a nice lingering hop finish. Nice dipa.
3.8 Sample at the taproom. Hazy bright golden color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to a film. Strings of lacing. The aroma is hoppy with citrus and pine notes, and some malt in the background. Medium to full body with a piney hops character and flavors of grapefruit and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a citrusy hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
4.2 Bottle. Pours clear light golden with lots of head and lacing. Nose is tropical fruit and sweet malt. Taste is also nice malt with some bitterness in the aftertaste. Great.
3.9 Draft. Served in improper glassware. Still pretty rich hazelnut aroma. Dense lace. Flavors of nut brittle, hemp seed, and a whiff of guava pith. Maybe a hint of orange too. Surprisingly pithy finish. Still, an absolute winner.
3.5 Bomber on my daughters patio (Laguna Niguel) on 24th May 2015. Cloudy amber pour with a white head. Hops rule the roost here, citrus, tropical fruits in the aroma a bitter bite in the taste. I couldn’t find any honey sweetness, or presence at all in either the nose or flavour. Decent though and certainly a hop forward brew. Alcohol hidden nicely by the depth of hop flavours.
4.7 Yum-o! Great looking brew with a large, durable, cream-colored, frothy, fluffy head, loads of lace, and a clear amber color. Aroma is a volatile blend of fresh hops, caramel, & biscuits. Flavor has those characteristics plus carbonic tang, malty sweetness up front, followed by a piney, grapefruity hoppy taste that has a very long finish. Excellent palate with a little alcohol warmth. Very good drinking beer. Yessir.
4.7 Pours hazy golden orange. Head is decent. Okay lacing in a pilsner glass. Might perform better in a nonic pint. Aroma of strong grapefruit, honey, pine, grass and orange. Aroma also very floral and complex. Wow. Taste is perfectly balanced between malts and hops for a dbl. Pine, grapefruit and some floral. Subtle honey on finish creates a medium-thick mouthfeel. Finish is bittersweet. Damn, that’s good!!
3.6 On draft. Hazy orange gold with one finger head. Honey, lemon, pine aroma. More piney on the taste, but there is still honey. Pretty interesting.
4.0 Can’t recall what crap store I bought this at near Disneyland. This beer, however, isn’t crap. Sweet orange, peach and lemon, caramel and honey. Pine and more honey stuff. Mellow with a pepper bite. Just enough sweetness and a subdued tangy lingering aftertaste. orange, honey, pepper and pine, resin, caramel, multigrain crust, biscuit, more orange, more honey and more orange and honey. Stellar brew.
3.6 2/21/15 from 22 oz bomber. Pleasant enough aroma but not strong or piney. A bit out of balance on the malty side. Needs better aroma hops and less buttering.
3.5 B hazy golden. Citrus hops and alcohol in the nose. Boozy and floral and citrus. Sticky hops but alcohol seems too much for the base. Not bad but not the best.
3.9 Bottle. Light hazy deep golden liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of lemon peel, mango, bread, light caramel, grapefruit and weed. Taste is light sweet and medium to high bitter with notes of mango, lemon peel, bread and light caramel. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Quite nice.
3.2 No retention and medium lacing. Very hazy, looks like a hefeweizen. Smells of fruit juice, grapefruit and malt. Tastes of pine, grapefruit and malt. Medium-bitter finish.
3.8 thanks Rey! .. a very approachable crushable double ipa .. . light gold .. medium head .. . sweet day time hops and light flowery resin .. . full simple finish .. like i said to you before, because you never listen, crushable. now go to your room.
3.9 March 3rd, 2013 - Hangar 24’s Double IPA is next in line, promising a huge cargo full of hops and flavor. And it delivers (on time, now boarding for Flavor Country.) Murky and deep orange, it looks like a geyser after the pour, bubbles venting to the top. The aroma is fresh and incredible Springy, redolent of mizuna bitter greens, miring, honey and orange - intoxicating and powerful. The flavor resembles the aroma in strength and flavor, with more bitter greens offering a vegetal permutation of hops bitterness, orange and Meyer lemon for a rusty sweetness, and strawberry to top it off with a nice dollop of dessert. Given the Spring weather and the unfurling of leaves, blossoms and winter garb here in San Diego, this beer came along in a timely fashion, delivering me straight to the tropics in luxury.
3.8 Aroma: floral hops, some resin. Appearance: murky yellow, small, white head. Taste: medium bitter. Palate: bitters continue, some resin, flowers, spruce, very dry finish. Overall: nice IIPA,well-balanced, great aroma. Pint at Yard House Downtown, San Diego.
3.8 Bottle from Whole foods here in Campbell California. POURED small head with little spotty lace. Great grapefruit flavor with a good malty body. ABV NOT TASTED BUT WARMING. GREAT
3.9 Nice beer. Pours clear golden with lots of head and lacing. Nose is pine and grapefruit. Flavours grapefruit, light sweet fruit juice, some pine some cereal. Taste medium bitter light sweet. Fullish body with lots of carbonation.
