3.5 At the Moon under the Water in Watford. Pours a super dark brown with a loose tan head. The rich roasted malt, dark fruit, brown sugar. The taste is pretty much as it smells with a dry roasty end. Light/medium in body with fine carbonation.

3.2 Cask at the crosse keys, city. Dark black / brown coloured pour with a lasting dirty greyish tam head. Aroma is dark choc, mineral flint, dry powdered choc and dirt. Flavour is composed of semi sweet chocolate malts, medium bitter roast and mineral, burnt toast. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, slightly thin, lowish cask condition. Harsh bitter roast lingering with some dark fruits.
3.1 Cask at The Bishops’ Mill (JDW), Durham, £1.99/pint. Black with a thick, cream-coloured head. There are dark malts, chocolate and a little smoke in the aroma. The body is disappointingly thin and watery but the flavours are appealing - a pleasant blend of cocoa, cream, caramel and berries, although I couldn’t detect much of the promised port. Okay.
3.5 Black beer, brown head. A bit of coffee in the smell, which is pretty dry. Flavour’s dry too... a splash of coffee, earthy malt, bitter chocolate and a healthy hit of the port too. Very drinkable.

3.3 [cask, at the Great British Beer Festival 2015] - Hanlons Brewery Port Stout, 4.8%, Bronze winner "speciality beers" at this event. Dark brown, with a small, beige head. Licorice, chocolate and wee roasted malts on the nose. Medium body, hardly watery at all. Mild carbonation. Dark chocolate, some licorice, some vanilla at the start, mild floral notes. More explicit roasted malts towards the middle, dark chocolate mainly. Finish is closer to cold espresso, but the vanilla note keeps the going soft. Aftertaste slightly sour espresso, again with a light vanilla note. Really not bad medium-strength stout.
3.3 On draught at Chippenham Beer Festival. Pours dark, clear. Little aroma. Medium sweet, bitter ashy fnish. Light body.

3.2 Cask. Dark chestnut brown with a small tan head. Watery at first with some brown sugar notes dominating. Molasses and dark dried fruit. Soft carbonation, little bitterness, soft malty finish. I feel it is a bit too thin to really carry the flavours.

2.8 (cask) clear deep ruby-brown colour with a frothy light-beige head. aroma of milk chocolate, light roasted malts and cornflakes, with a hint of blackcurrant and light caramel. flavour is mostly roasted malts and treebark, rather nondescript, with a light berry tartness and a hint of vanilla. thin body with soft carbonation.

3.7 From the file last updated in 2010. As Ruby Stout. Pours dark brown. Aroma of dark malt and chocolate. Flavor of dark malt and chocolate. Liked it.
3.4 Black with thick tan lasting head good aroma with some coffee and chocolate hints Some initial sweetness in the taste which may come from the port then a nice roasty coffee bitterness develops. Some lingering warmth at the finish - oddly for a modest abv. Maybe it is the port found it a bit watery but decent.
3.6 Cask at the Stockbridge Tap. Pours black, nose is sweet berry, dry roast, chocolate, taste is sweet, dry roast, coffee, wine.
4.1 Nice malty aroma with chocolate and coffee tones. Black colour with too much head. Malty flavour with nutty impression and slightly coffee and chocolate finish. Medium to heavy creamy body with medium carbonation.
3.9 Deep dark brown with a red tint and a lasting creamy frothy beige head. Smells of burnt malt, chocolate, coffee, dried fruit, caramel and sweet malt. Medium frothy oily body with no carbonation. Mellow rounded roast, with burn malt with dark chocolate, dried fruit and a nice bitter coffee roast finish. The finish has a slight metallic finish. A nice smooth stout with a roast finish and a dry nice decent character.
3.3 Cask Pint at Wibbas Down (JDW), Wimbledon, London in Mar 2013 - Dark Brown in colour with Reddish tinge. Very Malty; roasty malts, coffee, liquorice. Hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. Very drinkable.
3.6 Keg at The Rake. Dark brown to black with a thick two inch head. Aroma is toffee, burnt toast, caramel, coffee, I could sniff this for hours. The taste is nice, much of the same from the nose of the beer, thick, rich with different flavours coming and going as the beer warmed. Quite good
Leicht ins süßlich-dunkel gehende. Schwer. Der Nachgeschmack ist langanhaltend - hefig-mild und röstmalzig-intensiv. Gut abgewogenes Herbe-Süße-Verhältnis. Interessantes, aber auch sehr leckeres Bier! --> 13+10+13+13 = 12,40
