Hanssens Oude Gueuze

Hanssens Oude Gueuze

As with all Gueuzes, Hanssens is a mixture of several vintages to produce a lambic which is refreshingly fruity. This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.

4.0 Bottle from JefVerstraete as part of Euro Swap, thanks. Sour wild aroma and taste, white wine, basement, spice, wooden notes, high sour. Medium to full body, sour funky finish. Good.
3.7 375ml bottle from Beers of Europe (£4.99): Sort of orange amber & cloudy with a 1cm, foamy white head that settles at a thin circumference lacing with a single patch in the middle. Sour with tart & fruity esters upfront but it's not as overpowering as some, I got a little orange & peach with a subtle acidity with apple & a white wine aroma towards the middle but it has a nice balance with some lemon & yeast at the end. It's more tarty with the taste, a lot of grapes & vinegar acidity with some funky flavours, lemon & strong floral flavours. It's yeasty & sharp with a sour, tangy finish. It's strongly carbonated & crisp with a light medium body that looses some of the initial balance as things go on.
4.2 Amber and hazy with no head. Strong smell of a lambic beer with vinegar and lemon notes. In taste fruity, with apple and citric notes, with an ending of pineapple and wooden barrel. Nice one.
4.3 Nice rich taste, shared with my nephew, as he did not show interest regarding it, I didn’t complained. One of the great ones I had recently.
3.6 Złote, zmętnione, skromna piana w formie obwódki. W aromacie nuty dzikie, jabłko, winogrona, drewno, kiszona kapusta. W smaku silna kwaśność, w tle nuty dzikie.
W tle niskie estry w postaci jabłek, gruszek, moreli i winogrona. Całość uzupełniają akcenty pestek, kwiatów, sera pleśniowego i chlebowej słodowości. Smak: Na pierwszy plan wysuwa się średnia, gładka cytrynowo-jogurtowa kwaśność oraz pestki i taniny. Odrobinę więcej estrów, jabłek, moreli i winogrona. Z kolei fenole stajni, siana, lekkiej skóry przechodzą w tło. Całość uzupełniają nuty kwiatów i chlebowej słodowości. W ustach wytrawne z średnią, gładką kwaśnością, treściwość średnioniska, lekko aksamitna, wysycenie średnie oraz średniowysokie taniny i lekka cierpkość. Finisz wytrawny, wyraźnie taniczno-pestkowy z nutami kwaśno-cierpkiego jogurtu cytrynowego oraz morelowym niuansem. Ogólnie w smaku pierwsze skrzypce grają gładkie, ugrzecznione dzikie nuty z cytrynową kwaśnością. W smaku z kolei do głosu dochodzi cytrynowo-jogurtowa kwaśność, fajne taniny i pestki, tym samym spychając rustykalne akcenty w tło. "Surowy" charakter, ale zarazem nieagresywny. Zdecydowanie brakuje mi estrów.
3.8 Bottle 375ml at Home. From Alko web shop. Pours cloudy golden with white head. Flavor has barnyard, oak, apples, citric lemon,
3.8 37.5 cl, bottled. Pours cloudy orange with a minimal white foam ring. Aroma: Vinegar, wood, fruits. Raisins. Taste: Notable sourness, mild fruity sweetness. Wood, vanilla. Floral notes. Palate: Medium body, average carbonation. Good.
4.0 0.375 l bottle from Alko Arkadia, Helsinki. Amber, cloudy, no head, sparkling. A classic dry gueuze which is not bone dry.
4.3 Suave y sabrosa
3.8 37.5cl bottle picked up at Rotsaert beer warehouse in Zedelgem, Belgium a few years back. A golden/amber coloured pour with a small white head which doesn't linger. Yeasty, fruity, tart, lemon, apple aroma and taste. Really pleasant sourness in this one and it is very drinkable indeed. Never been a huge fan of anything tart and sour but this one is really nice and refreshing and would be great on a hot sunny day.
3.7 Frothy white head left a spotty cover on an unclear, slowly carbonating dark gold body. Sour aroma with apple. Medium bodied, sharp on the tongue with a short dry back. Sour apple, chalk, yeast & floral tastes. Cleanses the palate!
3.8 Clear golden appearance. Aroma is tart and sweet. Flavour is tart, sweet, sticky, fruity and apple.
3.2 Aroma; acidic fruits, floral yeast, green apple, honey notes, fresh n inviting scents. Look; low off-white head on silky golden body. Taste; big citric fruit bowl, tropical fruits too, honey, tart, sour apple, shifting to berries, and leading to a fresh sourish finish. Feel; nice body n co². Overall; refreshment. 4.0 Bottle 0.375l from Etre Gourmet shop, Brussels, Belgium. Pour it hazy golden color with small white head. Aroma nice complex funky, citrusy, flowery. Taste smooth tart, red fruits, getting some strawberries also in after taste, light oaky note, smooth complex good balanced. Nice.
3.9 Copenhagen 28/4 2020. 37,5 cl corked bottle from Belgisk Bryg, Emdrup Mosevej, Kbh. NV. Label is made out to look like some ancient brown-ish pergament with gothic letters. Pours unclear yellow with so small a white head that it is nearly no head at all. Looks like a glass of cider or apple juice. No lacing. Aroma is intense with a sweet, fruity decay and strong sour odor chiming in. Rotting, sweet apples. Vinous sourness with unripe berries. Vinegar. Light funky odor in the background. Medium strong carbonation. Thin, oily texture. Flavor is intense with a light sweetness followed by a strong vinous sourness. Acidic. Aftertaste is sour. Lingering. Finish is bone-dry. Intense and quite aggressive Lambic with a strong acidity.
3.6 This is very tart and dry, almost like an English cider. Tart apples and a hint of mustiness or funk. Quite nice.
4.4 2016 bottled, poured into tulip glass. Pours a very hazy golden hue with a wonderful white head. Aroma is weak vinegar, wood or oak, white grape must, weak fruit. Taste is quite different and much sweeter and fruitier than the nose. White grape and green apple up front with the vinegar middle and a solid oak finish that is sweet and round throughout. This is a great beer for the style.
3.7 Taster on Weathered. Vintage 2018. Appearance: hazy golden with a white head. Aroma: funky, some car exhaust notes, but bery fruity at the same time, sime sweetness. Taste: along the same lines, moderately acidic,a bit woody. Overall: interesting.
4.6 Clear rich honey hue with a thin foamy white head. Lovely complex aroma that’s woody and funky with light Brett and nice tropical juicy lactobacillus. Crisp bright flavor that’s pale and sunshiney with delicate notes of tropic juice and bretty funk. Lovely interplay of Belgian farmhouse dusty Brett and tart juicy lactic tree fruit.
4.1 Bottle at Bier Central bear Antwerp Central Station. Clear amber with some few beige bubbles. Super funky, fruity, sour and musty. Dry. Quite tart. Very good.
4.2 何よりも醸造時の樽?の香りが強いビール。 地ビール感もあり面白く、味もそれなりに整っているので友達に紹介したいビールの1つ。
4.0 Smells like your Granny's feet, tastes like the berries and fruit she grew in her garden. A truly delicious beer, but only for fans of old school lambics. It isn't easy to drink, it is, however, an exciting and unique experience. I recommend it to any fan of sour beers, it is definitely a must.
4.4 Gold colored, slightly trouble, pearls. Nose and taste well balanced. Sour, but certainly not too sour. Oak. Fermented, but in taste not overwhelming.
3.7 Colore giallo dorato, leggera schiuma bianca compatta poco persistente, buona carbonazione. Al naso limone, uva bianca, cantina, legno. Al palato sentori acidi e lattici uniti a limone e uva. Corpo leggero, finale secco. Una birra caratterizzata da una parte lattica evidente, che nel finale sovrasta la parte fruttata e legnosa.
4.2 Pours a clear, pale golden amber coloration with a medium, fluffy, quickly dissipating head and visible carbonation. Smells of doughy malt, tart white grape and apricot, blue cheese funk, hay and yeast esters of green apple/pear and peppery spice. Taste is a great balance of light doughy malt, strong, tart and zesty, fruit notes of apricot, white grape and lime peel, as well as more estery fruit notes of green apple/pear and a medium, slightly musty, blue cheese funk presence, with just a hint of hay, peppery spice and oak as well. Finishes with a medium tartness and acidity and some fruity notes, funk and oak lingering in the aftertaste. Effervescent mouthfeel with a medium body and medium/strong carbonation. An excellent, complex and well-balanced Geuze that's up there with the greats in my opinion. Very enjoyable indeed.
4.1 Odd that I haven't rated this yet. Bottle. Pours clear golden (ofc getting cloudy toward the bottom), large white head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is funky, lemon, dust, must, sweat socks. Flavor is light tart, light plus funk, Geueze. Medium light body. Solid.
3.4 0.75 l bottle from 'P&M Getränke', best before August 2030, cellared for almost five years. Slightly hazy, golden amber with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sourish, fairly funky and gently fruity aroma of ripe lemon, rhubarb, quince, horse blanket, oak and a touch of vinegar. Quite sour, funky, gently fruity taste of ripe lemon, vinegar, some glue, oak and horse blanket, followed by a medium long, fairly tart, woody-dry finish. Medium body, very astringent and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Just as acidic as expected by Hanssens, maybe a bit less so compared to their fruit lambics. Nice beer actually, I was afraid of getting pure vinegar, but it's nevertheless not the most enjoyable Gueuze.
3.4 goud kleurige, eerder troebel, fris zure lambic bier, artisanaal staat mooi
