Hanssens Oude Kriek

Hanssens Oude Kriek

This is the result of blending black cherries lambic of different ages followed by a second fermentation in the bottle. Storage is similar like geuze. All bottles are champagne corked and can be reserved, in normal conditions, for more than thirty years. It is obvious that an amazing taste evolution takes place.

1.4 Muddy red. No head. Limited carbonation. Funky aroma with notes of basement, wood, and wet kitchen cloth. Very sour. Vinegar-like with notes of sour cherry and aronia. Not for the weak throat, nor the weak stomach. I'm not hardcore enough for this. Sorry.
3.5 Bottle. Deep dark purple-red. No head whatsoever. Aroma of funk, sour cherries, cherry pie and wood. Very sour. Medium bodied and almost flat, but not unpleasantly so.
4.1 Bottle sample at Extinction. The beer is a clear purple with a pink head of foam. The aroma is fairly jammy and fruity cherry. It's a lot better of a beer than I expected. It's actually pretty damn good.
3.7 37,5cl bottle (6,5%, bottled 02/2018) from Rob the Gourmets’ Market in Brussels. F: no real, thin pink film, quick gone. C: dark ruby red, hazy. A: sour dark cherries, blackcurrants, bit vinous sour fruity, funky. T: medium body, sour dark cherries, dark berries, quite strong acidity for me to be fully enjoyed, puckering, funky, bit woody, almost no carbonation, good not great for me.
3.2 Strong acidity, sour cherries, wood and barrel, no sweetness. Not for the faint-hearted.
2.3 Pours a cloudy, deep, dark ruby red coloration with no head. Smells of tart black cherries, oaky tannins and a pronounced white vinegar note. Taste is dominated by white vinegar, with a biting sourness and some tart black cherries, cardboard and earthy, tannic oak notes as well. Finishes with a very strong acidity and some white vinegar lingering in the aftertaste. Flat mouthfeel with a medium body and very low carbonation. Even though their Oude Geuze was excellent, this is another drainpour from Hanssens after the Oudbeitje I had by them, suffering from the same flat, overly vinegary, oxidized flavor profile. I don't know if this is just extremely poorly balanced or I'm dealing with a bad bottle here, but considering I detected the same faults in their Oudbeitje already they seem to either be suffering from serious consistency issues or using bad corks.
3.5 Couleur framboise foncé, pas de mousse. Nez aigrelet, lambic, fruits, cerise.
Fajne pifko.
3.8 W aromacie miąższ wiśniowy, trochę pestkowo, dziko, subtelne nutki octu. Pysznie pachnie. W smaku soczyste, wiśniowe, migdałowe, konkretnie octowe - ale ja to nawet lubię. Najlepsze dzisiaj.
2.6 Hazy red colour with no head. This is more floral and sharp than the Schaarbeekse version. More natural though. Acidic burn in the finish.
2.7 Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 23F). Bottle 75 cl - Batch unknown (bottled on 2017 - BBF unknown). AROMA: initial medium-high acetic notes, followed by medium low cherry, low wood, slight leather. APPEARANCE: ruby colour and clear. low light-pink head with low retention. TASTE: initial medium-high acetic sourness, followed by medium-low cherries, low wood, barnyard. finishes dry. PALATE: medium-low body with low carbonation. slightly puckery character. OVERALL: an aged fruit lambic where the acid overwhelms the blend, rendering the palate completely numb.
2.8 Appearance: Pours clear garnet. Thin white head, no lacing. 4/5 Aroma: Sour cherry, distinct wood, leather and funk with slight vinegary notes. 8/10 Taste: Fruity vinegary followed by sharp acidity, soon diminished, leaves a tart vinegary finish. 5/10 Mouthfeel: Light bodied, watery, flat carbonated. 3/5 Overall: Complex and impressive aorma, with a palate can't match it, acidity loosing control. 8/20
2.9 Aroma: light lambic, hint of funky cherry Appearance: flat no head, red/orange/clear Flavour: extreme sour, some woody notes Palate: flat lasting
4.3 Bottle. Red, slightly blurred color, pinkish foam. Quite wild aroma, cherry and sweet cherry, barnyard, bovine, lemon. Taste: cherry, real cherry, slightly dried, sour, light sweet, wine, tart, very good lambic.
2.6 Bottled 2017. Too vinegary on the nose, almost as if it had gone bad. Did not enjoy the flavour very much either.
3.4 Bottle at Kiselo druženje (Sour gettogether) 2018. Dark red, medium, lasting off-white head. Dusty, fruity, slightly acidic. Quite vinous, some vinegar, fruit. Medium body.

3.8 Bottled 375ml. -at Kiselo Druženje 2018. Red/brown coloured, minimal white head, sour cherries in the nose. Fruity, tart cherries mild touch of wood and mild spicy with strong but pleasant dry tart cherry finish. Really nice one.
3.4 200th non-US rating! Pours a nice dark russet from a bottle, almost no head, what little there was quickly dissipates. Aroma is cherry, vinegar. Flavor is very tart fruit vinegar, astringent but with a light sweet finish, nothing cloying. Good beer.
4.0 the aroma is fruity and winy with hints of sour cherry, red wine, apple vinegar, yeast and candy... the taste is very sour, fruity and winy, with notes of cherry, apple vinegar, berries, yeast and dry wine... sour, tart and dry aftertaste...
3.6 Bottle 1 year after bottling. Deep ruby color, no head. Aroma is string vinegar, fermented cherries, some chlorine notes. Taste is strongly sour with lingering acidic finish, surprisingly spicy, notes of red wine, cherries, cinnamon, some moderate funk.
3.7 February 2017 BD. Red purple with no head. Marzipan, cherry, light raspberry, blackberry, almond, Moderate to very sour with a light alcohol burn.
3.8 375 ml. bottled Jan 2016. Pours deep crimson with an enduring film of purple-pink foam. Nose is dark cherries with cream, light funk and oak. Flavor is way more laden with tart cherry than the aroma would indicate. Tasty but I don't get much else peeking through the cherries. Medium bodied with medium carbonation and a puckering sour.
4.0 Bottled. Half clear red brown body, almost no head. The aroma has strong cherries and mature oak. The taste is very sour, extremely balanced with a thick palate and a lovely fruity finish.
