Hardknott Infra Red

Hardknott Infra Red

Bottle conditioned. Has been seen in cask.
This IPA is not particularly Pale. In fact it’s a deep ruby red. Based on a modern American style beer from Oregon using Cascade and Centennial hops in appropriate proportions, for bittering, aroma and dry hopping balanced with a strong Crystal malt backbone.

3.4 Pours dark copper amber in colour with light tan head. Aroma is very much toasted malt, some citrus and tropical fruit, caramel and earthy. A very bitter but smoothly sweet taste and strong lingering flavour. A little fizzy in the mouth but that doesn’t stop this being a nice beer.
2.5 Many thanks to bobinlondon for the bottle!! Pours a clear chestnut color with a lofty tan head. The smell is toasted malt, citrus, some spice, mild caramel. The taste is tangy fruit, citrus, toasted malt, a bit of off-flavor and some spice on the end. Light+ in body with very active carbonation. The carbonation and flavor make me wonder if the bottle was perhaps infected. It wasn’t totally bad but seemed a bit off.
3.2 330ml bottle. Clear, copper-ish, dark amber colour with average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, ochre-ish beige head. Fruity hoppy aroma, hints of cherries and red berries, some orange, sangria borrowings. Taste is slightly sweet caramel malty with a nuttily touch, fruity hoppy overtones with hints of sweet red fruit, a bitter touch of orange zest.
3.4 Botella 33 cl tomada en scotland yard la Virgen del camino. (r170). Agosto 2015. Fcpref 10..2015. Bien amargo final con un cuerpo medio de 6.2 vol fácil de beber. Buena.
3.1 Almost bright, amber colour, aroma is some roast and malts, taste is very roasted and, again, coarsely bitter upfront which is how it should be and seems to be a common feature in Dave’s beers. Nicely done, Dave!
3.8 Pours red with an off white, foamy head. Aroma is quite woody, earthy. Taste is very earthy too, malty, bit of a bitter finish. Lovely.
3.7 Bottle from Morrisons. Murky amber/ruby body with a thick beige head. Light lacing. Aroma of caramel, nutty malts, wood and red fruits. Flavour of stewed strawberry, parma violets, dried fruits and earth. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Restrained and less hoppy than I’d hoped it would be. Decent beer though. I don’t think the description on the bottle reflects the beer contained within.
3.7 Bottle. Pours a lovely deep red colour with a good sized off white head. Aroma is rich malts and hops with a light bitter and dry finish on the malty taste.
3.3 Fantastica iPa molto profumata erbacea e fruttata allo stesso tempo note citriche e frutti rossi anche al fusto. Beverinita eccellente da abbinare a qualsiasi cibo. ---Rated BY Italianbeer85
3.7 330ml bottle, billed as an Oxymoronic IPA, poured into La Chouffe tulip. A: Ruby, mahogany, clear, small tanned head which was intent on making a swift exit, moderate amount of lacing. A: Earthy Fuggles hop. T: Decent Maris Otter malt profile, slight bitter sweetness at the finish. M: Medium body, moderate amount of carbonation, smooth. O: English IPA meets ESB, well balanced, a bit more of a cold weather beer, but a nice change from the seemingly endless stream of American IPAs.
3.9 Bottle from morrisons. Deep maroon with a small white head. Aroma is nicely fruity with lemon and also piney hops and a touch of golden syrup. Taste is sweet with good biting bitterness. Oily medium body with decent carbonation.
3.7 Bottle. Pours a clear deep amber colour with a thin off white head. Aroma of caramel, resin, candied orange, spicy berries, leather and some toasty malt. Taste of toasty malt, caramel, resin, orange, berries and subtle grapefruit. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A citrus, resinous hop bitterness in the finish. This is a good beer, sweet with good citrusy bitterness. Packs quite a punch for a 6.2 aswell.
3.3 (Bottle) Clear red with little white head. Pleasant subtle hoppy aroma. Medium body with excellent carbonation. Nice hoppy bitterness from start to the very long finish. Some gentle sweetness. Overall a nice and unusual combination.
2.9 Brown bottle, 330ml, Morrison’s Aberdeen. Scent is mild toasted grain. Pours dark ruby amber, transparent with a tan head subsiding average. Weak on the nose. Taste is medium grainy bitter hops with light sweet hints. Finish is dry, little harsh. Decent.
3.3 Bottle. Chewy toffee with a fair amount of herbal and grassy hops. Slightly unusual but in a good way.
3.6 Lovely marmalade aroma aroma. Deep rich bronze colour. Loads of toffee malt but thankfully balanced by a black pepper bitterness and there’s an aromatic hop floating in the background.Ah just seen this is dry hopped which explains that. Not my style but I do like this.
3.9 Was expecting great things from the score. Good beer with nice caramel and hoppy flavours but nothing extraordinary IMHO.
3.5 330ml bottle from Ales by Mail BBE 03.07.2015 - Pours copper orange with a massive foamy head. Aroma of grassy and herbal hops, loads of caramel, toffee and malts. Taste is juicy, chewy malty and caramely with some toffee, herbal notes and grassy hoppiness. Finish is bitter, chewy malty and caramely with some toffee. Okay.
3.6 330ml ; called Infa Red Oxymoronic IPA and more conservative as its lower boost than on the database @ 6.2 ... Drank from a Chimay goblet I guess its sorta nice while watchin the cricket on tv kinda beer ... its a soulless enough beer to drink with out thinking about its fucken nuance ,yet populated with flavour - is that an oxymoron ? . This nose is floral grapefruit hops ,resin, nutty malts ,maybe some strawberry or lychee ; deep red, looks tight- a subtle beige head too ; And it dranks big powerful kinda chewey caramel crystal malt personality - with handfuls of sticky rich hops -giving birth to grapefruit , pine. grass . Nicely there is some dryness to this as its pretty rich ... Ive got 5 more bootles. I will drop it down maybe . I can’t see it gettin’ higher points !
3.9 Bottle from morrisons. Dark copper beer with medium head and patchy lacing. Aroma is dry red leaf and malts. Taste is malts, caramel, dry leaf, some pine resin and a little smoke. Slight touch of oil on the palate. Very good.
3.6 pours unclear brown with an amber shine. Listed as an amber ale, yet to dark to be one, and an IPA according to the bottle. confusing... Small white head. Smell is sharp ,aromatic hops. Bit sweet, but mostly trough the hops instead of the malts. Taste is Bitter, rather sharp bitter even. Earthy hoppyness, not as fruity as thought. has some characteristics of the English ’bitter ’style to me.
3.7 Cask at CASK in Pimlico. Great hit of resiny hops with a sweet finish, some herbaceousness, alcohol noticeable. Nice beer.
2.4 Bottle @ home. A bit hazy medium to dark amber color, full sized off-white head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts, hops, unfortunately a bit sweaty and a lot of iron. Taste malts, again hops but mainly bitter hops, a bit sweaty and lots of iron. Quite disappointing actually, I expected a lot more. When it warms up a bit it even gets hints of vegetables. Average to medium body, fizzy carbonation. No, unfortunately this is not good at all. Too bad.
4.1 Deep orange with a thick off white head. The citrus and grapefruit aromas are thick too. Hop bitterness and resins are strong, but also very good. Hard to believe that the finish is clean. Body is light to medium and the alcohol is balanced. A blockbuster.
4.1 Dobre piwo z wyraznym zapachem grejfruta rozowego. W smaku dosc poteznie wytrawne i bardzo goryczkowe. Powala smak wytrawnosci, slodowosc niewielka i przytloczona przez chmielnosc. Piana spora i bardzo trwala. Kolor miedziany.
3.8 Bottle 33cl. Hazy to cloudy deep amber, big creamy light beige head, long lasting, good lacing; initial aroma of citrus, bitter orange, some pine, later more malty, bready, caramel, grass, spicy notes; taste medium sweet and bitter, citrus, light peppery; medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, mild bitter finish, light citrusy, light malty, herbal notes; overall a subtle and elegant ale, nice.
4.4 Interesante cruce entre estilos "rojos" con un algo de UK, mucho de IPA USA y un toquecillo como a roja belga. Distinta, muy perfumada y redonda. Cayeron dos botellas.
3.8 Bottle from Sainsburys, Watford. Exploded when opened and sadly half the contents ended up on the table/ floor. What was left poured a clear, deep amber, with a dense off white head. Aroma of berries, pine and burnt sugar. Resinous hop flavours, with some tinned fruit and grapefruit. Finish was caramel, aniseed and bitter spruce-like hops.
3.6 Bottle buffet cart stalybridge drunk on the last train back after completing dewsbury to stalybridge ale train. Was very drunk at the time so cian’t remember specifics I do remember it was very tasty.
3.5 330ml bottle from the Real Ale Store, that was 6.2%. Colour is a slightly cloudy dark red with an off-white creamy head. Aroma of hops citrus and a bit of toffee. Taste is bitter with a citrus note and a very bitter finish.
