Hardywood Gingerbread Stout (GBS)

Hardywood Gingerbread Stout (GBS)

Brewed with baby ginger from Casselmonte Farm and wildflower honey from Bearer Farms, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout captures the terroir of central Virginia in a rich, creamy libation with a velvety mouthfeel and an intriguing evolution of flavors from milk chocolate and vanilla to honeycomb and cinnamon to a snap of ginger in the finish. Deep, dark chocolate in color with a mahogany tint and a frothy, caramel colored head, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout offers aromatics of holiday spice originating from the ginger, and balanced with a generous dose of whole Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans and Vietnamese cinnamon. Milk sugar (lactose) contributes to the full body of this stout and tames its roasty character, while oats lend a silky quality. Enjoy fresh, or cellar for a special occasion. We hope Hardywood Gingerbread Stout contributes to your merriment this season.

3.8 Bottle. Dark brown beer with a brown head. Malt and light ginger aroma with caramel and spice. Ginger and toffee flavor with spice. Medium bodied. Ginger and toffee linger with light molasses and spice.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a dark black with a brown head and aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is sweet, lots of roasted malt and chocolate notes into the roasted finish.
3.3 Tap (Hanover taproom, Edinburgh). Pitch black color. Medium size, brown head, stays. Roast, gingerbread, clove, spicy, sweet, cinnamon, ginger in aroma/taste. Drinkable brew.
3.7 Black appearance. Aroma is coffee and strong ginger. Flavour is ginger, coffee, malt and slightly bitter.
3.7 Bomber from TraderJoes. Poured into a pint glass, pours black color with lasting, creamy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of strong coffee, chocolate, vanilla, ginger, cinnamon and ginger snaps. Malty, roasted cofee taste, gingerbread, cinnamon, gingersnaps, vanilla, chocolate and a gentle bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Mainly about gingerbread and coffee, but really tasty and well balanced. Very nice. Would recommend to my friends!!
3.9 Very thick & festive stout! Pours black w/ a thin beige head & very little lacing. The aroma is robust with cinnamon & seasonal spices. The taste is fairly heavy on the cinnamon with some hints of vanilla. It’s a thick mouthfeel which is necessary to translate the depth of flavor. Jolly!
3.8 Aromas of fresh grated ginger root, cinnamon, gingerbread air freshener, chocolate, cocoa, roasted malts, soft vanilla, honey, graham cracker and campfire ash. Taste is really fresh ginger, lavender, hibiscus, prominent vanilla, chocolate syrup, toffee, licorice, campfire ash, chocolate milk, honey, graham cracker cocoa nibs, star anise, cinnamon and charred malts. Overall, quite nice and holiday forward. The ginger is fresh and crisp alongside a sharp alcohol bite.
3.6 On tap at Velocity Wings, Sterling Virginia. Dark brown in colour, with a thin, beige, head. Aroma of ginger, chocolate and leafy hops. Flavour had toasty malts, some chocolate sweetness, subtle ginger warmth and a toasty, rich, finish. Enjoyable.
3.5 Bottle from Trader Joe’s in Germantown. Pours a dark brown color with a disappearing tan head. Sweet malt and fresh grated ginger in the aroma. The flavor brings in some molasses with the bold ginger. Definitely gets better as it warms with more malt character and sweetness. Maybe a little one dimensional with the ginger spice. Fine though.
3.8 Poured from bottle black brown with tan head. Aroma is molasses, gingerbread, toffee. Taste follows with a nice mouth feel.
3.8 Apparence : Noire, bon col brun pâle, rétention moyenne, carbonatation moyenne-faible, légère dentelle. Nez : Gingembre, malt grillé. Goût : Gingembre, malt grillé, sucre du lactose. Légère amertume en finale. Sensation : Corps moyen, effervescence moyenne, longueur moyenne. Bref : Ont-ils masqué le gingembre? Non.
3.5 Very interestng and strong in features. Nice aroma and the bubbles were just the right touch.
4.2 Very solid winter/holiday stout. Not quite gingerbread, but nice flavors
4.0 Tap at Cloudwater Friends and Family festival. Chocolate, roasted malt and lots of ginger aroma. Pitch black color with minimal sized brown head. Sweet ginger chocolate taste, heavy gingerbread, so nice. Thin to medium body, soft carbonation, creamy and oily.
4.0 500ml from total wine. Spices are front and center. A bit of chocolate and cinnamon. Not too bad. Great beer.
3.7 Brown pour, Ruddy tones. Aroma of gingerbread, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. Taste follows, very sweet, with honey and cream.
3.6 22Feb2019 Intense gingerbread, dark, toasted malts, chocolate, cacao. Hazy, very dark brown, medium, creamy, beige head. Light bitter. More gingerbread, dark malts, cacao, chocolate, spices, soft carbonation, medium to full bodied. Nice. Keg at CBR19, Shoreditch.
3.5 Bottle from Trader Joe’s in Los Gatos, CA. Aroma is sharp ginger, cinnamon, vanilla extract. Taste is ginger, sweet honey, cinnamon (both natural but a bit sharp), some roasted coffee. I liked the natural ginger overall, but was hoping for more malt / bread / body to hold true to the gingerbread vibe. Also better as it warms.
3.7 Ginger-forward, sweet spice aroma - dark sugars and malt, maybe allspice or nutmeg. German-style, slope shouldered 500 mL bottle. Vaguely psychopathic gingerbread man on the label. Oh Snap. Oily black pour. Tan, dense and persistent head. A nice round, rich taste experience. Definitely tastes like ginger snaps, but not too edgy. Molasses, ginger, malt sweetness, moderately roasty. Body is very full at first and then levels out a little. Allspice/nutmeg finish. This is a good one to drink a little on the warm side. Trader Joe's, Tallahassee.
4.1 27/2/2019. Bottle at Crafty Fellas, Leadenhall Market. Pours very dark brown with a small tan coloured head. Aroma of chocolate, gingerbread and cinnamon with light roasting. Medium sweetness with moderate bitterness. Medium plus body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Light ginger and some festive spices to finish. Enjoyed this.
3.9 On tap @ Mother Kelly’s. Pours black with moderate head. Aromas of fresh cut ginger, dark chocolate and slick roasted malts. Flavors follow same. Pretty nicely balanced with ginger up front. Just like ginger chocolates. A nice sipper.
3.7 2/11/19 - Tallahassee, Fl - Trader Joe's - 500 ml bottle. Plum purple-black with a thin dissipating bone colored head. Aroma of Neko candy licorice wafers and ginger snaps. Solid spicy flavor, nice underlying ginger bite without being overpowering, some licorice accents, some menthol hints. Slippery mouthfeel
4.0 750 ml bottle. Opaque black pour. Small creamy beige head. Roasted malt nose is redolent of ginger. Sweet roasted malt and molasses flavor. Tangy ginger and milk chocolate. Notes of honey, orange peel and cinnamon. Velvety mouthfeel. Warming alcohol notes. Complex and flavorful.
4.0 Black pour with a thin tan ring. Aroma has ginger and molasses. Taste is mostly deep dark molasses, a real kick of ginger, with vanilla and cinnamon in the finish. Plenty enough malts, and not overly sweet. Hides its ABV well. Great beer.
3.5 750ml bottle. Black colour. Brown head. Aroma is tar, liquorice, spices. Brown sugar shows through. Decent, slightly underwhelmed on the whole.
4.2 Bottle from Mother Kellys, Bethnal Green. Purchased for Christmas Eve. Pours a jet black with a tan head. Aroma: ginger, mild honey, roasted malt, brown sugar, mild bourbon notes. Taste: ginger dominates the flavour balance. Honey, bourbon, mild cinnamon, brown sugar, mild vanilla flavours. Full bodied. Complex flavour balance. Mild acidic from the ginger, with a boozy finish. The ginger definitely is strong but well executed, but can't quite pick any dough/cookie flavour that you would expect to make it taste like Gingerbread. Great beer nevertheless!
3.9 Kivételes ünnepi csemege, képeken korábban sokszor megcsodált címke, igazán különleges palack, amely sokáig elérhetetlennek tűnt, az idei karácsonyt azonban a Hardywood főzete is csillogóbbá teszi. Friss, reszelt gyömbéres jegyei közé nápolyis, csokoládés ropogtatnivalós elemek vegyülnek, melyek egy krémes, lágy szerkezetben oldódnak fel. A pörkölt malátás folyamban inkább a gyömbér fűszeres, enyhén mentás jellegű, tűpontos karaktere villan fel, semmint valamiféle tompább, súlyosabb mézeskalácsos karakter. Az édesség mértéke jól eltalált, az alkoholfok szintje tökéletesen rejtve marad, a kakaós, étcsokoládés köntösbe öltöztetett fűszeres, bársonyosan vaníliás, s csupán leheletnyit fahéjas imperial stout önfeledten kortyolható ünnepi főzet jellegét ölti.
4.4 Holiday cheer activate bitches. This is one helluva winter seasonal. While the gingerbread character is present, it is pulled into balance by a dark earthy molasses. No burn despite the 9% abv, and super chewy. Vanilla and cinnamon notes start to appear mid-glass. Nice semi-sweet fade let's the ginger back in and follows on with a light roasrmty tang. Tremendous beer.
3.9 Tap at Mother Kellys, 11th December 18. Pours black. Aroma is dark chocolate, ginger, coffee. Taste is chocolate, ginger, biscuit, mouth feel is full for the ABV. Very nice.
4.4 Color negro, opaca.
