Hardywood Great Return

Hardywood Great Return

Bottle and can: Filtered
"IPA"
Bold, resinous and bursting with bright grapefruit aroma, this IPA is a tribute to the decades of hard work by conservationists to restore the James River as a bounty of vibrant aquatic life, eco-friendly recreational activity, and in our case, fresh brewing water. These efforts have culminated recently with the symbolic return of the endangered Atlantic sturgeon, a prehistoric, yet majestic behemoth of a fish, spotted as far up the James River as the fall line in Richmond.

3.2 Bottle from Beer52. Golden-amber with a white head and a light fizz. Lemony citrus with mild pine and a little butterscotch. Mild to moderate bitterness with the right amount of sweetness to balance. Reasonably crisp and clean. It's fine but forgettable; it's a fairly standard old school IPA, pleasant and drinkable but with nothing to make it stand out or be memorable in any way.
3.2 Beer 52. IPA clear fizzy. Tropical, but VERY hoppy bitter (too much)
1.9 Lockdown May 2020. Stubby brown bottle, filtered, from Beer52's Virginia Pack. Way too hoppy for me. Not enough malt character. Quite bitter. Not my thing.
3.7 Lots of resiny pine, grapefruit and a clean fresh taste. Pleasant well balanced, lightly bitter finish, pours copper, fine head. Very good.
3.9 355ml bottle, Beer52 pack. Decent proper West Coast style IPA, the citrus aroma leading to a good rounded bittersweet balance, the resinous bitterness and the ABV being supported by a medium body with lasting white head and a slight candied sweetness. Enjoyed this - true to style and really tasty.
4.2 Bottle. Decent orange-y pour, with frothy white head. Lots of mango/citrus fruit in the aroma, and a hint of cotton candy? Medium body, bread-y finish. Lots of malt character, and the bitter hops compliment nicely. Well done.
3.8 Bottle from Beer 52. Bronze pour with moderate head, bursting with resiny hops, a little citrus, pleasant bitter finish.
3.7 Sharp, medium to heavy malty, full bodied, bitter, citrusy with bitterness in the after.
3.7 A decent West Coast IPA. Can was a little old (3-4 months) but held up ok. The freshness was lacking a bit though, which may reflect in slightly lower rating. Has some bitter and those resin/pine notes. Light copper to medium orange appearance. Would like to sample again on the fresher side.
3.7 Can. Deep orange-amber, clear, tall rocky head. Piny, lemony, touch of caramel, biscuity. Sweet and malty, resiny, citrus, biscuits. Old school and nice to have this.
3.4 454ml can. Pours slightly hazy orange with a small head. Aroma is caramel, pine and toast. Taste has pine, caramel and sherbet lemon with a bitter finish. Sticky mouthfeel.
2.9 Almost clear amber with thin head and better lacing. A bit sweet up front followed by some resin, citrus pith and alcohol. Finishes dry. Lacking complexity and almost no aroma. $11.99/6 pack 12oz stubby bottles at Total Wine And More, Boca Raton, Florida
3.7 Pours clear dark golden color with white head. Pine and citrus aromas with some dankness. Resinous pine flavor with citrus and moderate bitterness. Medium body with average carbonation.
4.3 Drinkable west cosat style ipa
3.5 Nice west ipa, WR
3.5 22Feb2019 Bitter citrus and tropical fruits, orange peel, bitter orange, bitter mango peel. Clear gold, small, creamy, white head. Light bitter. Bittersweet tropical fruits, mango and papaya peel, passion fruit, bitter orange, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Decent. Keg at CBR19, Shoreditch.
3.5 Draft. Resinous pine and light citrus aroma. Golden color poured with a white head. Ok IPA.
3.2 can at home bought this as have been enjoying west coast styles again. its very piney, grassy just for me it wasnt bitter enough
2.7 A cloudy ipa with citrus notes but tasting of resinous wood. Is 7.5% and tastes it.
3.6 It pours golden and clear. The head is white with good head retention. There are strong grapefruit and stone fruit aromas. The stone fruit is closes to peach. There are very low grainy notes. There are strong stone fruit flavors with grapefruit. There are some dank elements that are in support. There are very low pine notes with some floral and grainy notes. It has a moderate body and the finish is quick bitter, but not in a harsh way although it does have a certain sharpness to it. Overall, A combination of very hoppy elements that blends well with minimal in the way of malt or other elements
3.3 Half in tap east. It’s ok. Quite clean with a little fruity funk at the end. Pleasant.
3.2 Can. Pours a hazy orange colour with a fluffy white head, light hop aroma, the taste is medium bitterness and with a dry bitter finish.
3.7 16 oz can from ATL with an 18 May 2018 canning date. Pours with a very lightly hazy, pale amber body topped by a frothy white head that has very good retention and leaves plenty of sudsy lacing on the glass. Aroma: resinous and fruity (citrus). The flavor has moderate strength but with bitterness that is a bit mild for style. Notes of tropical fruits and bread, but primarily resinous hops. Medium body with medium carbonation.
3.3 On tap at Tap East. Hazy amber colour lasting white head. Slightly toast hop. Slightly oxydised. It's a typical US old school ipa. Some bitterness. Some caramel. It's OK . Lasting finish. Nothing special.
3.2 Taps clear topaz with a minimal ivory head. Aroma offers resiny hops, tangy citrus and fresh malt. Flavor yields sweet citrus, piney hops and raw malt - typical, but enjoyable. Texture presents fair body and peppy fizz. A great return on beer investment.
2.9 Can: Poured a coppery golden with creamy head. Aroma is malty. Taste is watery with soft hops and loads of malt.
3.0 Can CBC 9-25-18
3.4 Can from Gbbf 3018. Slight hazy amber beer with a thin white foam head. Nose is grapefruit peel, citrusy, toasted barley grains. Taste like a grapefruit, pithy fruit. Bit standard.
