Harpoon 100 Barrel Series #37 - Rich & Dan's Rye IPA

Harpoon 100 Barrel Series #37 - Rich & Dan's Rye IPA

This beer is brewed with our proprietary yeast – the same yeast we’ve used since first brewing Harpoon Ale – and some interesting hop varieties. The combination of Pale, Rye, Caramel 60, Flaked Rye, and Vienna yield a complex malt body that stands up to the spiciness of the rye and the pronounced hop flavor. The rye also adds a reddish hue to the beer. The kettle additions of Centennial, Apollo, and Chinook, and the dry hop addition of Falconer’s Flight add a multidimensional hop character.

3.8 Aroma is floral and malty. taste is floral, grapefruit, pine and some bitter citrus. Malty backbone is nice with the floral taste. Spicey rye notes. Nice mouthfeel. Well done ipa.
3.8 Great for lovers of a good, bitter IPA. Pours hazy gold with a thin head. Beautiful fruity flowery aroma, nice bitter taste on the front and a solid aftertaste. Not too complex but a solid IPA with a tasty rye flavor
3.1 Draught at brewery tour, Harpoon, Boston. Overall nice beer, not.a typical IPA, not that pronounced fruitiness.
3.5 Clear. On the dark side of amber. Soft malt. Rye spice is needed addition. Fruity hops.
3.0 Copper/orange. Thin head and lacing. BB date is 5/15/13 Consumed on 7/29/14 oops. Stored under refrigeration. Dry palate with sweet finish. Will have to try a fresher bottle.
4.0 Draft pour copper with tan head. Strong citrus aromas. Pleasant hop bitterness with strong balanced rye malt flavor. Grassy/citrus hop finish, but the rye malt really shines in this IPA.
3.7 Amber color , nice off-white head. Aroma of malt , bread and grapefruit. Taste of bread , malt . Sweetness balanced by hoppy bitterness. Full body, low carbonation. Pine and bitterness in aftertaste.
3.7 Rated on 4-28-2012 at Fort Wayne, IN Gathering (Bottle) When poured, this beer has a fizzy white head that mostly diminishes, opaque golden body, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, earthy, fruity, grapefruit, citrus and pine hops. The flavor is moderately bitter, malty, pine hops, fruity, and the rye makes an appearance in the end. The mouthfeel is smooth and this beer is medium bodied. This beer has a good hoppy flavor with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. This is a good quality brewed IPA and is worth trying.
3.5 Bottle. Smoky aromas of tangy hops, rye malt. Soapy palate, a touch creamier than your average IPA. Funky flavours of grapefruit, dusty malt and booze. Not bad.
3.6 Bottle, pours a hazy amber. Aroma of citrus and rye. Taste is bitter citrus hops with rye and malty balance. Pretty solid overall.
3.4 Transparent amber with a ring of cream colored head. Aroma mild. Taste of hops hints of citrus. Bitterness lasts
3.6 Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a hazy copper colored body giving a one finger white foamy speckled head that lasted for a good minute before it concaved into the body lightly and slowly. The body was too dark for any carbonation to be seen rising. The smell had rye malts up front with some light hoppy notes giving a wonderful spicy scent. The taste brought these flavorings back boldly with some light caramel undertones. The palate had a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue, just an overall great feel. Overall, I really liked this beer and would have it again if I lived in its distro.
3.4 Bottle to taster. Bottle is labeled enjoy by 03/15/14. Looks good for the style; a transparent orange with eggshell head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of floral and piney hops and mild rye spice with a fairly sweet backbone. Tastes like it smells, but not as hoppy. Average on the palate. A little sweeter than I prefer, and smells better than it tastes, but a decent example of the style nonetheless.
4.1 Clean, crisp, floor sweeper of an ipa. The rye usurps the cascade and corrects the balance so it's even. I like it.
4.4 Poured into a half liter glass. This is a sturdy IPA strengthened by a addition of rye. A good dose of malt solidifies this brew. Not a weak piney session beer. Not a hop-head amped up behemoth. This is a great and solid IPA. Bravo and Cheers!
2.1 Not a fan. It has a taste of like a Heineken with less skunk then a clean finish. It gets better as you drink it but it doesn't immediate grab me.
3.6 Pours clear, pale amber with a fine white head that fades and leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma of citrus hops, a bit of pine, a bit of grass and fruit. Taste is lightly malty with a lot of abrupt hop flavour. Highish carbonation, medium body. Definitely not a subtle beer.
3.6 Pours a clear amber, white head recedes to a thin film, great lacing. Nice bright hop aroma, citrus, some grass. Taste is a nice light malty character followed by a huge crisp citric bite. Light spiciness too. Finish is dry and crisp, very fizzy and a lingering citrus aftertaste. Great RIPA!
3.2 Amber with a large off-white head. Smells of bread and grapefruit. Tastes of soapy pine and grapefruit.
4.2 Amber hue of sweet nectar, my god this is a smooth beer. It has aromas of apricots, whisky and honey. A cloudy wildflower appearance. Carbonation is on the light side but very acceptable.
3.4 Moderate head that leaves very good ring lace after each sip. The liquid is neutral amber with a very light haze. Dry and earthy aroma. Good hop as I pull my nose away. Okay, this is strange, the first flavor I note is...pate. It’s a meaty taste with a note of oysters. The hop takes over in the swallow without much more than a bittering effect. The body is as expected and the carbonation is mildly elevated.
3.4 A solid rye IPA. Orange amber with thin white head. OK nose--mostly hops, hints of rye. Clean drinking, bitter hops with moderate rye spiciness. A little chewy on the palate, which is nice. Nothing exceptional, but overall pretty good. Just would want a little malt backbone or more resiny hops, ideally.
3.6 At the Windsor brewery. A play off of the long-time flagship of their IPA with the addition of Rye into the mix. Another of my "gotos" when at Harpoon for an event... love that rye spiciness.
3.4 @ Party Town / Florence KY Clear dark orange with a 1" rocky off-white head, wide bands of lace. Taste is caramel malt with an overtone of dry rye that grows substantially through the palate, adding burnt toast and a bit of spice before finishing with light bittering. The only weakness would be a lack of balance in the finish - too much spice and rye, not enough bittering. I know there are dry and wet hop additions, but they don’t match the grains.
3.9 Amber brown poured from a tap. Smooth taste with a little bit of citrus flavor. Another good harpoon ipa
3.9 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 1/15/2014. Pours lightly hazy orange amber color with a 2 finger dense cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, orange zest/rind, floral, grass, pine, rye, toast, caramel, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of hop notes and moderate malt balance; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, orange zest, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, rye, toast, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peace, floral, grass, caramel, toast, rye, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of hop flavors with prominent malt backbone; with fairly crisp malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy, and fairly crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice rye IPA. All around good complexity and balance of juicy hop and moderate malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.6 Medium amber, small head. Full body, intense flavor, rich, smooth and well balanced mouthfeel, great length. . Medium bitterness kept under control by sweet background. Hoppy, malty but not very distinctive.
3.1 Appearance: nice gold color, mostly clear but may have a haze to it, has a medium to large head that is beige in color Aroma: cream, citrus, pine, faint Taste: smooth subtle maltiness, has a bitterness kick in towards the finish, creamy Palate: strong c02, light mouthfeel, bitter aftertaste Overall: a smooth and creamy tasting beer with a bit of a bitter finish, not terribly complex but not bad
3.7 On draught at Diego’s in Newport, RI. Arrived to the table a hazy amber with a thin linen white head that lasted through the first two sips and laced the glass well. Pleasant aroma of pine with a few spicy notes of rye. The flavor is malt with a bit of rye spiciness to it followed by some moderate pine hops bitterness. Mild dryness at the finish. Medium bodied. Solid.
3.6 Bottle from ABC on Apalachee. Copper pour with thin dirty white head. Aroma is sweet malt and cereal. Tastes are orange, pine, pepper and toffee. Light bitter finish. Yeah, pretty decent.
