Taste is medium sweet, moderate bitter with a moderate dry finish. Notes of black malt, vanilla, leather, tobacco. Texture is watery, medium bodied with moderate carbonation
3.4 33cl bottle at Gyhallmanti’s, bought at De Caigny. Appearance: pitchblack with almost no head. Aroma: whisky, smoke, caramel fudge and some peat. Taste: pretty high sweetness. Notes of whisky, peat, smoke and some coffee. Palate: medium bodied, slick to watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall: slightly better texture, but still very weak. Aroma is also a bit better compared to the 16 and 18 year.
3.2 From Saveur Biere. In Teku glass. Playing Avernum 3 and Silence. 3 months after bb. More balanced than the 12, 16 and 18 versions, with the wood less aggressive, but still nothing impressive. Boring
3.7 On tap at Taps Kuala Lumpur. Dark black with brown head. Cocoa, rich sweet, not Tonnea of whisky notes but nice.

3.7 Score: 8 / 4 / 7 / 3 / 15 330 ml bottle, no. 06364, bottled April 2014. Black body, with a small, creamy, beige head. Aroma of whisky, soy sauce, tobacco, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla, some dark fruits. Tastes similar, with more tobacco. Medium, slick mouthfeel, with a low carbonation. Finishes dry, wooden, with tobacco, cocoa powder, whisky, some bitter chocolate. Very nice. Dry and roasty, while quite smooth, especially the nose. Taste is a bit too dry, tobacco like for me maybe. Overall not my favourite Ola Dubh, but really interesting.
3.9 0.33 l bottle from 'Ace Drinks', bottled in April 2014. Black with a thin, frothy, almost stable, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of milk chocolate, hazelnut, some coffee and a touch of vanilla. Quite sweet, malty, moderately roasty taste of milk chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla, coffee and quite a bit of whisky, followed by a medium long, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly earthy, quite peaty finish. Medium body, slightly creamy and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pleasant, well-balanced, not too extreme.
4.4 Bottle. Pours opaque black with tiny light brown head. Aroma is grain, soy sauce, gravy and rye bread. Taste is medium to very sweet, light bitter and light salty. Body is creamy with soft carbonation. Finish is long and intense with notes of malt, vanilla, rye, soy sauce, apricot jam, prunes, cream, roasted sesame seeds and hints of campfire smoke. Rich and will balanced.
3.6 [Bottle (12oz)] Dated April 2014. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a small diminishing frothy beige head. Minimal lacing. Aroma (7+) of light peat first followed by dark fruit, vanilla, light hops and some wood. Nice, mild malty flavour along with dark malt, light peat, light wood and dark fruit. Average bodied. Pretty good and goes down easy.
3.9 330ml bottle [#08541]. Quasi black colour with late awakening, small, frothy to creamy, osteoporosing, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, toffee, a minimally woody and peaty-smoky touch, vinous hints of blue grapes. Taste is slightly dry woody, minimally sweet chocolately dark malty, hints of vanilla, a minimally vinous touch of blue grape juice, minimally smoky overtones; smooth and soft palate, very fine but effectual carbonation. Harmonious, integrated, round.
4.7 Flaske 06294, april 2014.

4.1 2014 bottle. Darkest brown color with beige head. Aroma is whisky, coffee, chocolate, wood, blackbread crust, a touch peat. Taste is wood, chocolate, some fruits, coffee, peat. Silky mouthfeel with fine-bubbled carbonation. Very nice!
3.4 Still a nice old ale, but after 3.5 years on the shelf somewhat more of a dry Irish stout. Still good drinkability.
3.4 Refrigerated 11.2 oz. brown bottle poured into a snifter. Black with small off-white head. Aroma is leather, medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is leather, wood, and some peat.
3.6 Pours dark brown with small beige head. Aroma of whisky, chocolate, vanilla and wood. In taste a bit to one dimensional with some chocolate sweetness and light roasty bitterness, but with a light body considering the abv. It's easy drinkable on one hand but on the other I'm missing here some intensity. Nevertheless stll a solid brew.
3.9 Appearance- very dark, nearly black, a ring of beige bubbles in place of a head. Aroma- whisky, dark malt, chocolate, rum and raisin, fruitcake, Christmas pudding, treacle, fudge, vanilla traces. Some booze. Taste- smoky, peat traces, malt, dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, bitter espresso, vanilla undertones, woody, trace of leather. Slick mouthfeel, which isn't that full. Good stuff.
3.8 (Bottle) Dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, milky coffee, caramel, a touch of peat, oak wood, hints of whiskey and dried fruit. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, chocolate, caramel, hints of peat and oak wood, dried fruit, vanilla and a warming touch of whiskey in a finish with a balanced roasty bitterness. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and really well balanced with a gentle whiskey character. Very nice.
4.0 33 cl bottle, bottle no and date: 02951/ april 2014. Black with a minimal light brown head. Lots of whisky aroma, some roasted malt, licorice and bread. Sweet taste, light bitter with a warm whisky end. Løyvekurs end, small Celebration.
3.7 Drunk after a bottle of the 18 year old. Quite similar but this ones smoother, more coffee overtones and a richer aroma. Still maintains the liquorice and dark chocolate and slightly more full bodied but still a little more watery than I would like
4.3 Really dark, small brown head. Nice aroma, really nice good woody wiskey aroma in the aftertaste. Good beer!
4.0 W aromacie whisky, beczka do tego suszone owoce i czekoladowa słodycz. No i wanilia. Alkohol jest w smaku, ale delikatny i szlachetny. W tle posmaki mlecznej czekolady nadające delikatną słodycz, kawa i ciemne owoce. No i jest ta beczka.
3.8 W porównaniu do 12-stki w wyglądzie brak lacingu, w zapachu i w smaku dużo wyraźniejsza beczka, trochę przytłaczająca resztę, kwaśniejsze.
3.9 Bottle @Craig’s (Abstrakt tasting). Pours black with a tan head. Nose is whisky, peat, chocolate, slight dark fruits. Taste is chocolate, whisky, smoke.
4.5 33 cl. bottled April 2014, number 02398. Jet black with a lasting film of creamy foam. Smell is chocolate, vanilla, salty peat, and toasted oak. Initial tastes of dark chocolate, caramel, blackberry and raisin. Finish has delicate smoke, sea salt, prune, fig, soy, earthy leaf, vanilla and whiskey. Medium-plus body has a smooth nearly-medium carbonation and an excellent balance. I could drink this all night if I could afford it.
4.2 Bottle 33cl, date april 2014. Pours deep dark with a small brown head. Aroma is vanilla, chocolate and cherry. Full body, medium oily, flat carbonation. Taste is vanilla, burbon, roasted malt and a bit smoky. Nice bitterness. Long and strong. 05/17
