4.0 Haywards 5000 has a thin, white head, a clear, yellow-gold appearance, tiny, white sediment specks, throughout, and some sheet lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of honey-topped white bread, green apple, white bread crust, malt, golden raisin, and rice pudding. Taste is of those elements, with sharp alcohol notes (think of V.S. brandy), some grain husk, honey, corn, and a touch of low-level, rounding hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium, and Haywards 5000 finishes crisp and enjoyable. RJT
3.2 From a 330ml bottle on 1/5/2016. Pours a clear light golden. The nose features some light apple and grain. Flavour wise, it’s very sweet and fruity - certainly has more than a hint of apple juice about it. Finishes with a very mild bitterness. Medium bodies with average carbonation. Doesn’t come across as 7%. An unusual, slightly cider like brew which isn’t too bad at all.
1.6 Bottle split at Cotts Convention ii, thanks to the ML dirt bags, 05/03/16. Pale golden blonde with a moderate off white covering. Nose is grain, paper, honey, faint caramel. Taste comprises aspartamtic notes, paper, straw, grain, pale malt. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Meh.
1.6 Bottle share at Cotteridge II as ’Haywards 5000’. Many thanks to the malt liquor appreciation society for providing this one. Pale yellow, clear, still, small foamy off-white head. Aroma is sickly sweet, corny, honey. Body is light-ish, soft carbonation. Taste is light and insipid, sweetcorn, sugary wet biscuit. Ych a fi.
1.3 Bottle thanks to Richy / Sarky / Boosty at the 2016 Cotteridge Convention. It pours clear gold with a medium+ white head. The aroma is simple, grainy, cracker, white bread and cereal. The taste is crazy sweet, sugary, sweet white bread, earth, dirty honey, sweetcorn and a sort of oiliness. Finish is sweet and sugary. Medium body and average carbonation. Damn this is sweet and filthy. A challenge to drink.
2.8 330ml bottles at Cuisine India in Salem OR Pours a clear golden color with a tiny white head. Malty sweetish aromas.. Sweet malt taste..no real bad after taste though. Ok mouth feel Good Malt likka...nice with Indian food.
1.6 Cotteridge Convention II. Bottle through trade with Macboost, cheers Shawn. Golden beer. Aroma of light sweetcorn. Taste is sweetcorn and dry malt. Poor stuff, love it.
2.5 Bottle shared at the Cotteridge Convention - 2016 edition. What a treat! Huge thanks to MacBoost for this. Pours clear yellow with a white foam topping. The nose holds sugary cereal and white bread. Medium sweet flavour, with lots of sugary vanilla frosting, paper, cereal grains. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Cloying finish, lots more sugar, simple white bread. One of the lesser malt liquors tried on the day.
2.4 Bottle at CWC II supplied by MacBoost; clear golden yellow pour with a frothy white head, aroma has grain and minerals, taste has sweet corn, some minerals and sweet malts.
3.8 From the bottled poured a golden brew with a generous white head. Aromas and flavors of honey, malt and hops.
1.7 No head, aroma of caramel and boozy rhum. Taste is way too sweet to distinguish anything, maybe some wood. Aftertaste of alcohol once the sweetness fades. Overall some sugar packed sparkling drink with alcohol. Beer? No, not sure.
1.1 Clear deep yellow-golden colour with a small white head. Aromas of cereal, malt, caramel and metal off-flavour develops. Averagely carbonated, cloggingly slick with a alcohol laden body. Sweet is the main theme here. Clogging sweet finish.
3.4 Lukt: Fruktig, plomme m.m. Utseende: Lys gyllen. Skum/kullsyre: Tynt skum, ring langs kant. Smak: Frukter, noe syrlig avslutning. Hvor: Kjøpt@Butikk Bangalore, India, Nydt@Hjemme sammen med Gorm og Bryne. Medium: Box@330ml, ABV@8%, Når@30.10.2015
1.8 Can from Drops Total Spirits, 100 Feet Road, Bangalore. Poured a crystal clear straw colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt, yeast, some alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich, grainy, mineral alcoholic palate. Light bodied with lively carbonation. I feel sorry for Indians.
1.2 Can shared thanks to Jmgreenuk. Pours clear golden with a big white head. Aroma of nasty boozy chemical alcohol, grain and bad sweet malt. Flavour is over moderate sweet and light moderate bitter. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
1.9 50cl can courtesy of and shared with JMGreenUK. Thin white head. Clear golden pour. Watery boozy finish. Not great
1.9 Can shared. Clear golden with big white head. Loads of sugar, cheap honey, grains, marzipan, light herbs. Taste is sweet with some alcohol and strange chemical bitterness. Medium bodied.
1.5 If this is 4th percentile, I would hate to try anything in the first 3 percent. Tastes like corn alcohol and sugar. Flat. Probably best served in a brown paper bag.
1.5 The malt liquor of india. Bottle from an Indian restaurant in Salzburg of all places. Pours a golden color with a small white head. Fruit and grain in the rubber aroma. Sweet malt grain in the flavor and in the finish. There is a light metal finish but not so powerful that it makes the beer worse. Not bad...for a malt liquor.
1.1 Found in my local Indian Restaurant 8% on label Straw gold color, bright white head that falls to a collar. Nose is massive corn, stalk, creamed, you name it. Lots of malt, very sweet smelling. Taste is very sweet. Mostly canned creamed corn, some stalk, and grain. Sickly sweet and a decent amount of booze in this. Paired well with the food but could not stand up on it’s own.
2.3 Pretty thick and cheap tasting beer. The high alcohol content made the beer but it is still Indian swill.
2.6 Tasted several times at a local Indian restaurant (Sahib). Not spectacular, but certainly not bad for what it is. Slightly sweet and strong at 8%, it pairs well with spicy fare.
1.1 Lots of diacetyl on the nose and taste. This unfortunately made the beer undrinkable. I dumped it after the first sip.
3.0 650ml bottle shared between myself, my wife and son-in-law on 7th May 2015 along with two other Indian lagers at some random Indian restaurant in Laguna Hills, Orange County. Clean golden pour with a good white crown on top. Sweet malts rule the nose and taste with a pleasant alcohol kick (bottle claimed 8% ABV) within the flavours. The best of the three we tried on the night.
2.2 Bottle in New Delhi. Clear golden colour with medium white foam. Aromas of malts and alcohol. Taste is watery and metallic, a bit sweet, malts, harsh bitterness. Drinkable.
2.8 650ml bottle, purchased in Singapore, poured into a tulip glass. Pale clear golden colour with a medium sized white head which quickly dissipates. Grainy malt aroma. Sweet tasting lager.
2.4 Bottle. Pours pale yellow with small foamy off-white head, yeast aroma, medium carbonation, sweetish taste, abrupt finish, slightly sticky residue. Not too bad.
1.6 *Old rating, best before 03.02.12. 650ml bottle, 8%, For sale in Haryana only. Many thanks to Claudia’s sister for this bottle. Sehr süßliches, nicht zu tief, leicht alkoholisch, leicht getreidig, süß.
1.0 Bottle, shared by me... in my dining room... just now. Pours perfectly golden with a perfectly small head on top of the glass. The aroma is alcoholic, akin to corn flakes, & has some distinct berry and grape characteristic. The flavor is heavily boozy & sweet. it’s got cider, it’s got corn flakes it’s got cheap vodka. Holy moly it’s worse than I ever expected.
2.0 Bottle served in a paper bag. Yay for ticks and self pride. This isn’t quite as bad as I expected it to be, mostly meaning that it has less flavor than I expected. Malty. Corny. Grainy. Plain. I don’t see myself drinking this again, but finished it nonetheless. Interesting.
