2.9Drank from a bottle purchased at Wegmans. Has a nice malty/nutty aroma to it. Tastes a bit overly nutty and a bit watered down.
3.2Beautiful dark color. This was a mild beer with floral note and an almost hidden coffee after note.
4.5Bottle @ The Butcher’s Block, Sarasota, FL - Dark Brown ale with a very smooth malty flavor. Not sweet and not bitter...just perfect! Very enjoyable. I had one for breakfast :)

NOTES - Seems like the perfect example of a brown ale to me.

3.2Draft sample at Cherry Blossom Beer & Wine fest, deep brown color with tan head. Aroma notes of toasted malt sweetness and light chocolate. Taste adds some nuttiness and caramel. Light body, moderate-low carbonation, sticky with sweet roast finish. Nice brown ale.
3.4Bottle. Pours a dark brown with red highlights and a pillowy, fine-grained, soft light brown head. Nose is smoke, toast, roast pecans, and polished wood. On the tongue, there’s dark caramel, milk chocolate, tea, smoke, and vanilla. Really well balanced, with a good mouthfeel and a long finish shifting into molasses. Tasty.
3.8Deep malt aroma with a deep brown color. Slight bitter flavor with yeasty and sweet flavor. Strong amount of carbonation. Good, solid brown ale.
3.8Malty sweet and smooth brown ale.
2.4Super carbonated. Brown pour, huge tan head. It’s a mouthful of yeast. They need to filter this thing.

3.2Bottle at Ale Mary, Baltimore, September 2014. Medium brown in colour, with a decent, off-white, head. Sweet brown sugar, some yeastiness, dense malts and a hint of hop in the finish. Fine.

3.0"Solid brew for a brown ale, but nothing too exciting. Slightly better than the average brown...decent body and carbonation, aroma and flavor slightly more robust than the norm. Malted chocolate, light nutiness, earthy hops, and a touch of bittersweet in the finish."

Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a deep brown color with a one finger cream head. The head has a good level of retention, fading slowly over time to leave a decent level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is one the lighter side for a nut brown. It does however have a nice sweet brown bread aroma, mixed with notes of chocolate and some nutty smells.
Taste – The taste starts out a nice blend of roasted malt and some caramel sweetness. A lighter nutty and cocoa flavor comes to the tongue more toward the middle in the taste. In the end some lighter bitter hop flavors of an earthy flavor come to the tongue and leave a roasted bitter flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner side with a carbonation level that is rather average. A thicker body would have definitely been better, as it would have played well for the roasted, nut and earthy flavors.
Overall – The taste is fairly nice; roasty, lightly nutty and bitter, but the other characteristics, mainly the mouthfeel take away a bit. Overall not too bad, but nothing spectacular either.
3.2Bottle sample at He’Brew tasting at the Beer&Beyond shop. Hazy brown with a small beige head. Aroma of slightly roasted malts, nuts and earthy hops. Taste - sweetish, grains, malty, herbs and nuts, dry finish. Light-medium bodied. Decent.
2.7Bottle sample at He’Brew Brewery tasting at Beer&Beyond, Tel Aviv. Clear dark brown with low off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, carobs, light hoppy. Light sweet flavor, roasted malt, a bit sourness, herbs. Sweet-sour aftertaste. Low to medium body.
3.8I poured a 12oz bottle into an official Shmaltz goblet.
Appearance: Pretty chestnut/mahogany hue. Dark, but carbonation is visible. Pours to an average size, tan, foamy head which laces and retains fairly well.
Smell: Lightly sweet nose of milk chocolate, dark malt and hints of hops.
Taste: It takes a lot of chutzpah for an American brewery to not only offer a brown ale, but to do so on a year-round basis and make it one of your flagship brews. He’Brew Messiah Nut Brown Ale is just that for Shmaltz Brewing Company, and it’s a more-than-solid, exactly-to-spec example of the American brown ale style.
There’s a pleasant sweetness right off the bat as flavors of candybar chocolate, toffee and caramel are all noticeable right away. Though flavorful, they are not especially rich or cloying; it’s akin to the sweetness found in a standard cola. Some spicy bitterness through the middle that imparts a touch of dryness and maybe a hint of citrus, though it’s quickly obscured by even more malty sweetness on the backend. There is a consistent hazelnut flavor found in this palate, though it lurks mostly in the background. I get a touch of iced coffee right on the finish. Overall, this is a flavorful, well-balanced beer that’s quite versatile.
Drinkability: As tasty as this beer is, its true selling point is the high drinkability. The mouthfeel is on the thinner side, consistently crisp, and even a tad refreshing while it’s crossing the tongue. The aftertaste is slightly bitter, albeit briefly, and fades away after some time. At only 5.2% ABV, He’Brew Messiah Nut Brown Ale has quite a lot of flavor. Enjoyable as a standalone beverage, a dessert beer, or an accompaniment to a meal.
3.6Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a thick head and some lacing. Aroma of Malt, chocolate, bit of toffee and nut. Taste is a blend of the malt and chocolate with a nice touch of toffee and nut in the background. Mild bitterness and a dry finish. Moderate body, smooth and creamy. Nice beer that goes down easy.
