2.9 On tap at Heartland, Empire State, NYC. A dark one, almost black, with a creamy, light tan head on top. The aroma is roasted and coffee-ish, with some licorice. Rather boring and uninteresting, but not foul. There’s some sourish notes in the flavor, some berries too, but it’s mostly roasted malts. Full to medium body, smooth and with some acidity. Not much of the sweetness promised. Overall, a decent beer, but too acidic for me. 150624
3.8 A pitch black coloured beer with a thick tan coloured head. A strong aroma of roasted malt, loads of coffee and dark chocolate. Medium mouthfeel. The taste is a smooth and bittersweet, dry roasted coffee, nutty, then a smooth creamy chocolatey flavour in the end. The finish starts off dry and nutty then the sweet chocolate flavour comes through. Draught @ Heartland Brewery, 8th St. New York.
3.2 Dunkel, sehr stabiler Schaum.
3.2 Not quite black. A ton of foam. Silky body just like your mom. Rich and fluffy. Toasty and some cocoa notes. Not bad. Had this on tap at Heartland Brewery in Times Square
3.7 Nitro tap! 3/4" beautiful solid cream head, surface is perfectly smooth. Opaque black. Gentle black licorice with slight chocolate aroma. Thick and creamy mouthfeel with light dark chocolate taste. Seems like a mismatch of flavor and density, makes for a session able stout...but not so much at 6%.
3.9 Draft at the brewery in New York City pour is a black color r with a very creamy tan head with excellent lacing. Nice roast the aroma of coffee and chocolate. Creamy mouth feel but a little bit flat somewhat of a sour taste but very nice and Roasty
3.7 Weicher Malz-Espressoantrunk, sehr cremig mit geringer Süße. Vollmundiger Mittelteil, deutliche Schokoladennoten, sehr süffig - gut. 13/11/12/11//11
3.7 on tap at the Times Square brewpub; black color; roasted malt aroma with coffee notes; a smooth, light bodied stout with roasted malt and espresso coffee flavors and mild chocolate notes
4.1 Definitely a good stout. Tried it over the summer at the Flatiron location, then tried it again at the 8th ave 42nd street location. Wasn’t as good as I remembered but not a regret to try again. Poured from tap with little head, though it did settle from brown to black as expected. A good consideration is that it stays consistent from beginning to end.
3.0 Growler from wifey. Poured a flat body dark chocolate brown. Aroma/flavor is nice and buttery, ugh. Additional notes of oak, melted chocolate, burnt grains. Body is slick and full. Meh not too good.
3.6 Slightly sweet roasted malt aroma with oatmeal. Taste is same. Very smooth, full flavored and a nice beer. Bitter finish. Worth drinking.
4.0 "this was a fairly light but "elegantly" flavored oatmeal stout. ridiculously smooth, velvety texture. dark chocolate and espreso nose and flavor. quite good!"
3.5 A very sweet and milky stout with a chocolate body and thick head. The flavor is straightforward but very well put together. A great example of a sweet stout.
3.5 On tap at Heartland Brewery in New York. Appearance: Clear deep garnet body when seen through the light. Dense long lasting tan head. Aroma: Milk chocolate, oats, lactose. Sweet with prominent caramel. Taste: Milky intro into big caramel, malts, milk chocolate and hints of espresso. Finish is big and sweet. Palate: Chewy nitro body. Overall: I would have preferred this off nitro, but it’s a good beer. Rich and full flavored.
2.7 :Pours a Deep black color with aroma of rolled oats and malt. Taste is minor chocolate and roasted malt. Not as robust as I initially thought but a smooth mellow finish. A good bread mouthfeel, that dissipates quickly. A decent stout that I enjoyed at the brewery.
4.5 This was by far one of the best sweet stouts I have ever had. Beautiful dark creamy head. Lots of roasty taste, but never overpowering. Great coffee and chocolate taste near the end. It finishes so nice and smooth, that you have to have more, because even though it is sweet, it is the perfect amount of sweet.
3.6 Keg Pint at Heartland, Empire State Building, New York in March 2013 - Opaque Black. Very malty; roasty malts, oaty, lots of coffee and dark chocolate, caramel, hints of liquorice and nuts, some smoke. Creamy and smooth; well balanced. Sweet roast malty throughout developing a dry roast bitterness at the finish. Liked this a lot. Nice Sweet Stout!
3.1 5oz sampler from the brewpub NYC. Pours a dark brown/almost black color with ruby red highlights, and a thick creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, vanilla, wood, and dark chocolate. Taste of cheap roasted coffee, vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, and slightly boozy. Mouthfeel was kind of flat.
2.6 On tap at Heartland Union Square. A lightly sweet stout, with a little roasty/ burnt toast flavor and sugar. The menu said it was an award winner. I wonder what award it won - the average award?
3.4 Keg at Heartland Union Square, 24/11/13. Light black with reddish hues when held to the light, big old light tan head, excellent full glass lacing ensues. Nose is roast malt, earthy cocoa, dark toffee, metallic nip. Taste comprises light roast, earthy cocoa, liqourice, dark toffee, dark fruit. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying closure with light roast. Solid stout.
3.3 Mörkbrun med litet ljust skum! Inte mycket doft men lite kaffe! Smakar kaffe och choklad! Ingen kolsyra och väldigt len smak!
3.8 Pours a dark black with light brown head. Has a caramel, coffee, and chocolate aroma. Taste is similar to a (good) Guinness with chocolate and coffee. Has a rich and thick texture.
Succulente !
3.5 Good coffee and dark chocolate aromas. Dark with hue of caramel against direct light, good head good lace. Medium to full body, malty and sweet, with hints of dark chocolate beans. Nothing extraordinary. Just a good stout.
3.7 On tap at the brewpub on 43rd. Deep walnut, hint if ruby on the edges. Thick creamy head. Chocolate, oats and roast in the nose. Taste is semi sweet followed by moderate bitterness. Dry finish. Nice creamy body. Decent stout.
3.0 27.06.2013, tap @ Heartland Brewery & Rotisserie NY: Big creamy longlasting head. Aroma is sweet and slightly roasted, dark malts, dark sugar, caramel, mocha, coffee, toffee, grass. Taste is slightly sweet, dark malts, dark sugar, grass, coffee, hay, mocha, nuts. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Fair enough.
3.3 Velvety, thick body. Beautiful rich foam head. Coffee flavors all the way with minimal chocolate flavoring.
3.5 18th Jan 2013: my last beer in the Heartlands New York outlet under the ESB. Looked good: dark and mean, the beige head setting it off nicely. Malts all the way in the nose: roasted and over toasted with some hints of both coffee and dark chocolate within. Those hints in the aroma came out in the taste also: rich coffee flavours with a dark chocolate biscuit feel. Very drinkable and smooth in the mouth, a pleasant way to end a mini-session before more sight-seeing during the afternoon.
3.7 Dark amber brown with some ruby highlights, solid tan head and very nice lace. Bittersweet chocolate, roasted malts and oatmeal aromas. Complex flavor profile includes semisweet chocolate, oats, roasted malt and hints of coffee. Full body, no carbonation to speak of, super creamy smooth mouthfeel, and a lingering bitterseet chocolate in the finish.
