Heavy Seas Cutlass

Heavy Seas Cutlass

This malty lager is our most award-winning beer: it took gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival from 2006 to 2010. Cutlass Amber has a toasted, biscuity character. The slight sweetness comes from Crystal malt. Vienna malt contributes a remarkable smoothness and Munich malt gives an amber color and delicate aroma. Tettnang hops infuse the beer with a slight earthiness. Formerly named Heavy Seas Märzen, Cutlass Amber is our second best-selling beer. In 2012, Cutlass Amber won a silver medal at the World Beer Cup in the Vienna Lager category.

2.6 Old rating. Pretty nondescript marzen type beer (which is not my favorite style anyway). Amber color. Toast, sweet, caramel malts. A little hop bittering. Completely forgettable.
2.6 Bottle 12fl.oz. [ As Heavy Seas Cutlass Amber Lager ]. Clear medium orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sweet malt. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration, sweet malt, pale malt. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20150116]
2.6 Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Clear golden with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and light hoppy. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Sweet finish. 160115
3.0 Bottle, 5.4%. Clear amber with small off-white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toasted, grainy and a little hay. Flavour is malt, fruit, caramel, grainy, hay, medium sweet, hop and a little bitter.
3.1 12oz bottle from somewhere... Copper pour with a thin white head and loose sheets of lacing. Aroma of toasted, bready, toffee. Tastes of sweet toffee, grass, floral, herbal. Background juicy vibe. Ok.
2.6 Thin white head of fine bubbles. Soft bready malts with some vanilla, biscuits, light grains and malts. Color is a dark copper. Flavor is typical marzen. Soft and malty with a bit of sickly sweetness late swallow. Bit dry and chalky. Lingering malts and cereal grains. Not my cup of tea.
3.1 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Pours clear, Golden, with a medium white head and some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of malts and yeast, some caramel notes and very slight hop notes. Taste is sweet, some grain and some malts; slightly bitter. Very easy to drink, overall not bad at all.
2.9 Julie thinks that yucky however test okay. I think it taste okay but for the price it is not worth it
3.7 Aroma: Toasted malts with hints of skunks yeast aromas. Appearance: Clear amber with rich tan head. Taste: Medium sweetness straight through. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, long sweet finish. Overall: A bit too sweet for my taste. Not bad, though.
2.9 Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate fruit, light caramel, brown sugar, toasty notes, and a hint of apple. It pours a transparent amber with a one finger off-white head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. The flavor starts with light-moderate toasty caramel with a touch of brown sugar and fruit. The finish has light apple with a touch of roast and earthy bitterness. It’s medium bodied with a somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this one is a little too sweet for me.
3.5 4 oz draft pour at Heavy Seas Alehouse in Baltimore. Clear golden yellow to light amber with off-white head. Aromas of wheat, caramel, light floral notes. Tastes of wheat, sweet malt, caramel. Medium body with a dry finish. Medium carbonation.
3.5 The body has a very clear golden honey color with an average size, just off white colored head. The head fades to just a wispy thing layer of foam which makes no lacing on the glass. There is some sweet bready and biscuity maltiness with some leafy, slightly sour hop notes. It has a medium body with mildly sweet bready and biscuity maltiness with nutty husk like notes as well. The hops also add a touch of leafy bitterness to the finish. The palate is smooth and easy drinking with average balanced carbonation.
2.7 Pours light amber with a thin layer of fizzy head. Aroma is mainly yeast esters with some caramel and biscuit side notes. Flavor is very sweet with fruit, caramel and floral notes. The aftertaste is reminiscent of a sweet apple cider with slight nutty character.
2.1 Pretty unpalatable brew. Flavor is light grass and not very smooth at all. Would expect a bit more from this company.
3.0 I typically dislike Marzens. However, this one is okay. Nothing special, but a decent enough malt profile with subdued hops. Better than most for the style.
3.1 A slightly better than average amber. Medium bodied, lightish red appearance with decent head. Sweet bready malts.
3.8 12oz bottle, Pours a slightly golden amber. Aroma of malts and some fruit. Somewhat sweet, medium bodied, smooth brew with hints of a toasty flavor (some earthy flavor). Balanced, excellent brew.. .
2.3 Not much of a looker or a sniffer, and it really didnt taste much better, below average in its class but easy drinkin
3.5 Aromas of bread dough, biscuit, light earthy hops. Orange-amber, mostly lasting white head. A touch of initial malt sweetness, biscuity, hops are clean and grassy. Light bodied, short clean finish with some residual malt flavors.
3.2 12oz bottle. Pours hazy medium dark amber. Bready, malty nose. Malty sweet taste but offset nicely by the hops. I’ve never been a fan of Vienna lagers, but since I enjoy Heavy Seas beers I decided to give it a shot. I think it’s a nice beer, but probably won’t buy again.
3.0 12oz Bottle. The pour was a clear caramel orange with an average (1-2 finger) white frothy head, reducing down to a light film and medium collar with poor runny lacing. The aroma was of a sweet biscuit malt, mild herbal hops and an earthy doughy yeast with notes of caramel and toffee. The taste was somewhat malty sweet and had a touch of caramel throughout, with the finish having a slight bitterness and a light toffee sweetness towards the end. The flavor lasted only a short time following the swallow, with a nice crisp finish on the palate. Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with a carbonation that was just past soft in intensity. Overall I found this brew to be light in body and taste, that being said it still does possess a decent maltiness and a nice sweet bitter finish, making it somewhat enjoyable and easy to drink... www.facebook.com/KAJIIsBeerReviews
3.1 @ Party Town / Florence KY - Nearly clear dirty copper with a long head cover, tiny streaks of lace. Taste is caramel malt with earthy spices lightly mixed in. Carbonation and a touch of hop bitters keep the balance. A decent brew with more flavor and complexity than many similar brews. Recommended.
3.0 2/23/2010. From bottle. Amber color with a white head. Sweet malty aromas with lots of caramel. Sweet flavors with fruit and caramel. A bit watery.
2.8 Had on tap at Heavy Seas Alehouse. Pours a slightly golden amber. Malty and some fruit. Somewhat sweet. Medium bodied. Nice beer.
3.0 21 nov 2013, tap. Amber, clear, steady bubbles. Nose is sweet malt, toast. Thin body and fizzy. Tastes of copper malt. Very fizzy and crisp, and this obscures the beer a bit.
3.0 From a 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear orange gold with an off white head. Malty nose. Sweet biscuit flavors. Light bodied. Crisp finish.
2.9 12oz bottle pours a light amber color with a small white head. Aromas of sweet malt, biscuity. Light bodied, simple beer
