Heavy Seas Gold Ale

Heavy Seas Gold Ale

This easy-drinking session beer pours a deep golden color. It smells slightly floral and herbal, thanks to a hopback full of Cascade and Centennial hops. Gold is tasty and refreshing, with a round mouthfeel. In 2010, it took awards at both the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup.

3.2 Transfer from BA review on 9-2-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a medium golden color with a one finger white head. The head fades very fast to leave a very light level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is light and is of a bready smell mixed with a light caramel smell. Taste – The taste begins of a malty breadiness mixed with a light caramel flavor. As the flavor advances some lighter earthy and herbal hops and a corn sweetness come to the tongue. These flavors mix with the bread and caramel to take the taste to its end. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather light with a higher level of carbonation. It makes it rather drinkable and is good for the style. Overall – OK, but nothing special here.
3.0 Bottled. Gold pour white head. Some straw and light fruits. OK but not too charismatic.
2.4 Drank from the bottle. Aroma is hay, corn, and a trace amount of lemon. Taste is a little grassy, with focus on bread. Light body crisp beer. Okay, not my favorite style
3.6 Straw yellow. Finger of white head. I had to assume it was a lager from the aroma, which is more crisp and light. Touch of that lemon-zing. The flavor is actually pretty good for a lager. It’s got a touch of honey, with sweeter barley malts. The hop is very subtle, strictly for accent/balance purposes. Creamy feel, very thick. THAT part isn’t lagery. It’s like some kind of lager/ale hybrid. It’s flavorful but also rather refreshing. Not nearly as horrible as I thought it would be!
2.6 transparent gold, fizzy white head, decent lacing. Nose is dusty grain with light syrup sweetness. Grainy metallic flavor, light estery but decent dryness.
2.3 Tried this at the Federal House in Annapolis as their house beer. Gold colored, thick head and the medium body. Corn sweetness and light grassy hops.
2.4 Light aromas of bread and yeast. Light body. Slightly bitter. Bready, spicy hops, spicy finish.
2.5 Delicate floral aromas, briney. Orange-gold with a somewhat lasting white head. Dry, flavors of bread dough and mild spicy hops. Light bodied.
2.9 12oz bottle into glass. Clear golden color. Aroma of citrus hop and light caramel. Taste is smooth and easy with a little fruity flavor. Light bodied but slightly watery.
1.7 Tasted two of these as part of a beer of the month package (generally a bad idea it seems). Beer has a light hoppy start and then a mid soapy range before finishing like a generic ale. Don't know if these bottles were bad but not likely to try a third
2.9 b>Location/Date:Bottle on March 30th, 2014. Appearance: Pours clear yellow. Aroma: Aroma of light citrus. Taste: Light bitterness, lightly sweet. Palate:Light body Summary: No comment.
1.7 Pours a clear crystal gold with a thin Whitehead. Aroma is of citrus hops and corn. Flavors watered-down very little hop very thin mouth feel.
3.0 Bottle into an ale glass. Aroma is low but a nice crisp malt and grass. Pour is a golden yellow with a nice white head. Taste is a nice crisp bite of grass and summer. Finish is warm and clean.
3.4 12oz bottle into Sams glass. Clear golden color. Aroma of citrus hop and light caramel. Taste is smooth and easy with a little fruity flavor. Light bodied. Can down these.
3.2 Cask (with Cascade hops) at ChurchKey poured into a tasting snifter. Pours a hazy light yellow color with little off-white head. Aromas of tabasco, pungent notes, light citrus, herbs. Tastes of tabasco, floral notes, herbs, citrus, piney hops. Light body with a dry finish.
2.8 Light aroma and a small head. Sticky sweet with a slight spiciness and a light tangerine flavor.
2.7 Tap. Not my cup of tea. Thanks but no thanks. Haven’t found a heavy seas brew I enjoy yet.
2.8 Bottle, golden color with faint white head. Malt sweetness in the nose hint of corn. Flavor is sweet malt, a bit cloying a bit flat in the overall flavor profile.
3.1 Had on tap at Heavy Seas Alehouse. Pours a clear yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is malty and sweet. Flavor is also malty and sweet. Slight cardboard. Slightly bitter. A nice session ale. Medium bodied.
2.9 From a 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear gold with an off white head. Feint malt nose. Biscuit flavors. Light and crisp.
3.2 Bottle->SA. Light copper with small white head. A: sweet grains, citrus, hints of hops. T: malt over hops, grains, spice. Ok.
3.0 On tap at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Hazy amber/gold. Thick head that lingers. Slight hippy taste. Full bodied but drinkable.
3.8 Purchased from Glenway Crossing Remke/Biggs - This a fine, rich golden hued brew with a tall white head of foam and a spicey aroma. Tastewise, it’s sharp and complex, with that hoppy bitterness that I think those pre-prohibition brews might’ve tasted like. This is a fine beer!
3.4 Pours an expected gold. The aroma is light citrus. The taste is sweet and grainy with a caramel backbone and a light bitter offset. I could drink this as part of a mix case.
3.6 Hazy golden pour with slight offwhite head that quickly dissipates. Pleasant sweet and slightly fruity but very clean nose. Flavor brings a bit of hoppy lingering bitterness that balances nicely over the butterscotch tones. Lingering c hop finish. For a golden ale, this was actually quite enjoyable.
3.2 Draft at the brewery. Pours clear copper with tan foamy head. Tastes creamy and buttery. Dry mouth feel. Smells like wheat and light hops.
3.2 Clear amber color with medium light-tan head. Aroma is moderately sweet. There’s some grapefruit and spiciness to it. Taste is medium sweet with a creamy yet carbonated feel. Some caramel, orange, honey, hops (good old cascade & centennial), and a little grapefruit.
3.1 From a bottle. Nice refreshing mildly hoppy ale. Enough there to make it interesting but nothing that stood out enough to make me want another.
2.4 Pours a golden yellow. Slight scent of hops. Otherwise no scent. No head. Malt and bread is the only taste you get here. No trace of hops. Decent flavor. Easy to drink.
2.0 Slightly rotten note in the aroma. Taste is a little better but with odd, dry, sticky aftertaste that lingers. A bit of sweetness at the start, but is quickly overwhelmed by the dominant aforementioned aspects.
