Sirens are the sea nymphs of legend whose beautiful songs lured sailors off course to their demise. Mere mortals are unable to defy their sweet call. Can you resist the dark?

2.6Tasting at Papsø’s
Black color. Mild aroma of roasted malt, perfume, almost sour. Flavor of roasted malt, cheapest chocolate, some vanilla; dry; it has correct bitterness and some acidity.
It reminds me of chocolate coated orange wedges. Messy, unpleasant.
3.4Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Elwood. Pours black with a beige head. Sweet chocolate aroma and roast, but also has a slightly tart edge to it. Medium body, some roast, quite some spice - which? - and again a slight tartness to it. A very odd Stout. 160612
3.6Pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma is chocolate forward...sweet chocolate like tootsie rolls. Flavor has sweet and bitter dark chocolate...light caramel notes. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish lingers with dark chocolate.
3.5Bomber pours black with a thin head. Aromas of liquorish chocolate nib some roasted malt and hop resin. Flavor is balanced some bitter chocolate and some malt and a touch of woodsy flavors. Body is medium and finish leaves a chocolate flavor
2.9Very weak palate. Thin and metallic. Strong licorice candy flavor. Metallic aftertaste. Medicinal. Has the mouthfeel that I would expect from drinking rubbing alcohol. Reminiscent of dental office mouth rinse. Possibly one of the worst stouts I’ve had in a while. Maybe I’ll try it to treat the next sore throat.
4.9I really enjoyed this beer! Everything about it was fantastic.
My only complaint is that I can’t find it anymore... anyone have a case for sale?
3.8On draft. Somewhat effervescent for this dense of a stout, but this prevents the robust taste from overpowering. Excellent beer, the cocoa in flavor lasts quite a while and makes it an excellent sipper.
3.622oz bottle. Black color, light brown head. Good splotches of lace. Impressive, sweet chocolate nose. Good sweet taste, with some booze. Light, smooth carbonation. Really impressive. A surprisingly good standout ale from Heavy Seas. I haven’t had a chocolate ale this satisfying since Rogue’s.
4.3Deep chocolate aroma. Clear dark mahogany color, with light head. Deep chocolate front with a crisp finish.
4.2A dark, dark belt own pour with a medium brown head. The aroma is cocoa and dark fruits. The taste is roasted malt and a hint of cocoa. Medium carbonation and a mild roasted finish. It is not a comix brew, but it is refreshing and pairs well with spicy foods.
2.9Not really recommended. Pours inky black with a beige head; aroma of milk chocolate, toffee, and raisins; taste is rather sweet with chocolate and dark fruit. Texture is rather thin with mild carbonation.
4.1Sampled first with MM on our first valentine’s day together. Again at the next one. Beautiful black pour with big tan head. Great hot cocoa aroma and flavor. Very creamy milk chocolate and cocoa. Big roast, and some leathery notes. Silky smooth but full mouthfeel, though, I would like it just a touch more full bodied, or on nitro. Definitely one of the best, and best priced, imp stouts out there.
3.8Tap. Pours black with thick, frothy tan head; short retention and some lacing. Aroma is chocolate, dark fruit, roasted malts, earthy hops, and light brown sugar. Flavor is malt dominate, light hops, and medium dark fruit esters; creamy taste with a dry, chocolate finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation.
4.1Served out of a cask. Pours a very dark brown/black color with very little head. Aroma is of dark chocolate with a bit of roasted malt. Taste is very chocolatey and sweet with some caramel and hazelnut notes. Tastes almost like liquid s’mores. Very good imperial stout that would make a great dessert beer.
3.9On cask at Atlanta Cask Fest 2012. Pours a dark stout brown with a tan head. Nose is big chocolate bar- some cocoa, some dark malt, some light roast. Flavor is similarly big on chocolate- hershey bars, cocoa, light cocoa, and some chocolate truffles. Medium in body for such a chocolate bruiser of a stout. Nice!
5.0Pours black as pitch and almost viscous. Rich dark malt and coffee nose. The chocolate is bittersweet and perfectly matched to the coffee undertone. Tasted directly from the barrel... Shhh, don’t tell anyone :)
3.2Pours a murky and opaque brown with a small short lasing head. Wonderful deep chocolate in the nose, not much beer character but this does smell delicious. Flavor is a bit thinner and the texture veers toward watery. This is one that will impress the casual fan but leave true affectionados wanting something more.
3.7Chocolate beer very dark and heavy, starts off really chocolatey and finishes more roasted chocolate.
3.9Pours black with little head. Aroma of malt, chocolate syrup, marshmallows and vanilla. Medium bodied with a smooth palate. Tastes like a chocolate sundae.
3.7Bottle. Pours pitch black with a tan head that left a bit of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, coffee and roasted malts. Creamy dark chocolate flavor with light coffee, vanilla and cocoa nibs. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a roasty dry finish.
3.7Poured black with a medium-small light-tan head. Aroma has lots of milk chocolate and roasted malts. Some cherries and nuts too. Great aroma. Taste is very smooth and roasted. Lots of milk chocolate flavors. A touch of dark fruit in the finish with some nutty flavors. Pretty sweet overall. Great stout.
3.7Bomber from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA opened 7/2/11. Pours pitch black with a dark brown fizzy head. Below average head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate, soy, smoke and a sweet sugary note. The taste is chocolate, cocoa, bitter roasted malts, coffee, nutty notes and a lactic note in the finish. Medium bodied.
3.7bottle at dak’s on 1/19/11.
clear, reddish pale stout color... more of a porter brown with a small tan head.
the aroma is full of chocolate... lesser qualities include some roast, coffee, lactose, vanilla and coconut.
the flavor is more or less the same but with a woody charred aftertaste.
it is a little on the thin side to be imperial but it is crazy quaffable and very enjoyable. it is worth every penny of the $5.69 someone paid for it! 8/3/7/3/16/3.7
3.7Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice thick foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of black chocolate is quite intense with nice notes of dry roasted malt and some lactose. Taste is a nice mix of black chocolate malt with light dry roasted malt notes with a semi-sweet finish. Body is quite full with some creamy notes and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed for style and something I could drink on a regular basis.
3.622 ounce bomber. This nice beer surprised me. A nice chocolate ale. Hints of chocolate in the aroma and great taste.
3.5Brown pour with tan head and lace. Aroma of medium coffee and chocolate. Large coffee flavor with a light coffee kicker. Medium bodied and a bit fizzy.
4.122 ounce bottle into snifter. Pours very dark brown color with a dense 1 finger tan head with good retention. A thin lacing cap lingers for the remainder of the glass. Aromas of strong milk and dark chocolate; with some roasted malt and caramel as well. Not very complex here, but it sure smells damn good, like a tootsie roll. Taste of strong chocolate once again, with some roasted malts and caramel. Maybe a bit of dark fruits and coffee mixed in there as well. A very small amount of bitterness is present on the finish, but isn’t around for long. Lots of roasted and chocolate flavor lingers after the finish. No alcohol noticed in the taste at all, but a decent warming is present on the finish. Medium carbonation with a fairly full and creamy body. Very smooth drinking as well for the alcohol level. Overall, quite an tasty chocolate stout, nice smoothness and good balance.
2.522oz bottle...probably about 1 year old. Served at cellar temperature.
Pours thin dark brown to black with a one finger active light brown head that hisses like a snake, leaving some temporary spots of lacing and quickly recedes to a small cap.
Aroma is some light cocoa and bakers chocolate, some overripe if not sour dark fruits, a bit funky. Moderate strength.
Flavor is light on the chocolate, strong dark fruits with a touch of tartness, roasted malts, minimal alcohol, fairly sweet early but does finish with some bitterness.
Mouthfeel is thin with medium to high carbonation.
Not very Imperial Stout-like and the minimal chocolate presence doesn’t help. Not impressed.
3.8There is a jet black pour leading to a silky tan head the simmers down after a couple minutes. The aroma is of rich, dark baking chocolate and a mild hop backdrop. Nice, oily body in the medium weight range. The taste is bold with chocolate like its name promises with this tingling hop bite on the tail end. Sticking with the pirate theme, if I get a last wish before walking the plank I’ll ask them to get me one of these.
3.5Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium sweet dark chocolate malt flavor with a medium sweet of moderate duration. Medium body with a smooth texture and not much carbonation. Decent
