Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve

Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve

An American Pale Lager, Henry Weinhard’s Private Reserve blends Henry’s German heritage with the natural ingredients of the Pacific Northwest. If you want to impress your friends, you can say it’s brewed with 100% Cascade hops specially grown in Oregon. But all you really need to know is that it’s crisp, clean and one helluva beer.

2.7 Bottle. A- Cereal, citrus, wheat. A- Golden color, clear liquid, minimal head. T- Cereal, watery, malty, citrus, wheat, slightly sweet. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, crisp finish. O- Just like a glorified Bud Light. A decent beer with a little bit of flavor but still lacking a lot of qualities. Drinkable nonetheless.
2.1 On the deck in Kaneohe Oahu. Thanks to the last guest for leaving us leftover brews. What a view but not much of a beer.
2.3 Bottle. Clear light orange pour with a quickly dissipating head. Mostly a thinner palate, somewhat bland lager, but it has a little character that sets it above BMC. Not bad for what it is.
3.2 For the style, this isn’t half bad. Basically, this ends up being a more expensive version of the brand name lagers you see everywhere. It does this while pretending to be a craft beer. I get that. The Cascade hops give this beer a spicy, fresh bite, though. So yes, it’s a lot like all the other draft lagers. This one just has a bit more going for it.
2.9 For a mass-produced pale lager this is not that bad. If you want something easy to drink on a summer day, this would fit the bill. It’s not offensive in any way and has a refreshing taste to it. However, I tried the Weinhards IPA first, which I thought was pretty good, and I was expecting the same quality. I was somewhat dissapointed.
2.3 Bottle. The look is clear, very light yellow colored, and light white colored head. The smell is fruity, malt, bread, just egh. The taste is malts, blah, bread, grain, and banana.
2.3 12oz bottle. Pale gold with a small white head. Aroma is of banana lady taffy, grass, grain. Taste is of sugar, grain, and corn.
3.3 pours a clear golden color with a small white head. the aroma is rather weak but you pick pick up some sweetness and biscuit. the taste is very good, you pick up some sweet malt up front but there is a little bit of a hop kick at the end to balance it out. this beer is definitely worth a try!
2.1 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear honey color with a thin foamy white head. Aroma of cereal, grain, and sweet malts. Tastes like wet dog smells. Cereal, skunk, a bit metallic, and sour. This is horrible. Awful lingering taste in the finish.
3.1 For a normally bland style, this is very flavorful. Actually Little hop flavor and aroma. Not a thick malt presence. Light hoppiness is the only real flavor along with light hints of adjuncts. Very pleasing to taste something different in the pale lager category.
2.3 12 fl oz bottle. A10310940. Sep0213. (Friar Tuck) Springfield, IL. Clear pale golden colour with a tiny white head. The aroma is apple juice, mild sweetness, malt and... not much more really. The flavour is also quite mild. Some malt, mild dryness and some weak bitterness. Very drinkable but boring. Soft carbonation.
1.9 Pours straw yellow with light head which soon dissipates. Doesn?t have much flavor. Tastes like a cheap lager. Henry Weinhard always disappoints. Down the drain it went!
3.1 12 oz. bottle. Poured clear, straw golden with a short, stark white head. The aroma of toasted grains.. pale malt . Tastes of lemon zest and grassy bitterness around.. with a crisp finish. Light-bodied and a bit old school.
2.0 Very light gold pour, little head, decent lacing. aroma is faint...grass, wheat and corn. Taste is bland. Watery, light. Really nothing there. Better than mass produced but not recommended.
1.9 Appearance: very clear light gold color, pours with a small head that quickly fades to nothing Aroma: wheat, grain, light malt, Taste: light malt, has some grain to it, corn, hint of hops on the finish, Palate: average c02, slight hop and industrial aftertaste Overall: this has something that reminds me of industrial lager, although it is better than that it's still not good
2.4 A little grain or hops initial tasting...not real pleasant but not bad either. Just your generic beer but something my dad or his friends from the 60’s would be satified with (think Falls City).
3.0 Appearance: pours a 2+" sudsy white head that recedes quickly with mild lacing. Color is a clear straw with moderate carbonation present. Aroma: mild aroma of lightly toasted grain and clean water Mouthfeel: light and crisp with a mostly dry finish Flavor: sweet barley malts (white bread) combined with a healthy hop bitterness in the middle and finish. Overall: This is a nicely balanced and decent lager. It is more akin to Euro-style lagers than American macros in flavor.
2.0 From bottle. So this is what Henry keeps for himself when he wants to kick back with a good beer and watch an evening of LMN? Given HW’s other offerings, I was prepared to trash this one. Pours a light gold like an extra fizzy urine sample in a pint glass. Nose is corn and running socks with some faint wet dog. No hops to speak of. Given this, the taste is pleasantly surprising. Decent bitterness, some actual flavor and a peculiar finish reminiscent of a McDonald’s hamburger. Not real good, but okay for a pale lager.
2.6 Pours a pale golden color with a small head that fades to no real lacing. Aroma is on the mild side with some citrus and just a bit of malt sweetness. Taste follows with a bit of citrus and mild malt sweetness. Very light bitterness and a clean finish. Light body and smooth. Fairly bland. A decent non-offensive lager. Good as a lawnmower or BBQ beer.
2.5 bottle. Golden with small head. Tastes like a generic slighly-above-average lager. Easy to drink and even easier to forget.
2.9 Decent to say the least. A pale yellow color with a white head that had good retention and some lacing. Aroma had some nice toasted malts, a mild cereal note and a touch of corn. Flavor was balanced mostly toasted malts. The corn note did not affect the beer in any way for it was on the mild side. No real hop character but the malts seemed delicate enough to need any. Would make for a nice session beer. Carbonation was on the low side which i found to be a benefit.
2.0 Bottle @ home via jcnielsen. Thanks Jetson! Pours a clear golden appearance with an off white head. Fairly sweet, grainy, lightly toasted malty aroma with light floral and herbal notes. A bit lemony, fairly sweet, not overly fresh hoppy - more earthly/herbal - flavor with a bit of cracker mixed in. Ok.
2.1 Pours a light golden yellow with a grainy corn aroma. Taste is light and refreshing corn taste. Very bubbly on the palate, good for a hot day but no complexity.
2.5 No longer made in Oregon. Bottle says Golden CO and Milwaukee WI. They have ended their relationship with Full Sail. I don’t know what the point is in continuing this beer. Maybe they think that there is enough old folks like myself that remember this as their "I am more hip than you are" craft beer in the 1970’s. Now it is just average and superflous. Would rather drink Pabst.
2.5 Light not very interesting lager. Light grainy flavor decent fizz not a lot of hops.finished quickly with cereal. Nothing great, decent summer refresher or all day drinker.
2.3 Meh.... points for longevity..... not for good beer...........
3.1 Not bad. Very smooth and an easy drink. Henry’s is lighter of most lagers. You can drink this on any occasion.
2.3 Poured clear light golden into a clean pint glass. Started with a decent 3/4 inch head that quickly dissipated to a thin lacing. Standard fizzy lager with no great flaws. Light mouthfeel. Time to go do some yard work... ;-)
2.6 12oz bottle. The pour was a crystal clear sparkling yellow with a small (less than 1 finger) white foamy head that reduced at a steady pace, down to a thin wispy film with fair spotty lacing. The aroma was mild of a light grain malt, light floral hops and a mild cobweb yeast with notes of caramel and an adjunct (corn I believe). The taste was lightly bitter with a very mild caramel sweetness early on, and then became a tad bitterer and a bit grainy with a crisp adjunct presence towards the finish. The flavor lasted only a short while after the swallow, with the mild crisp grainy taste fading fast from the taste buds. Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with a ticklish carbonation. Overall this brew was definitely nothing special and typical of an American Lager, although it was crisp and refreshing and might be good as a lawnmower brew. 3.0 Gold, clear, white head. Aroma: grainy, corn-like, mild spicy hop aroma. Flavor: light honey sweetness, a touch of caramel, grainy-sweet finish with moderate hop flavor.
