Originally developed for British sailors stationed in India, IPAs were aggressively hopped to help prevent spoilage on long ocean voyages. Now that spoilage isn’t as big a problem, we’ve eased up on the hoppiness just a hair to let the caramel malts shine through. It’s a big beer with big flavor that really lets you appreciate hops in all their glory.

0.7Where are the hops? It’s one thing to make an IPA with a sweet malt balance but it’s quite another to make one that willfully skimps on the hops. This is nothing more than an attempt to water down a beer for the masses. A beer that’s supposed to be hoppy by its very nature has been toned down for the average consumer. This is an "IPA" without any balls.
3.5A bit of hops in the nose with some pine. Rubber band bitter with an astringent taste. Dry with a short finish.
2.4Bottle. Light orange pour with a white head. Pale caramel malt and stale hops on the nose. Lighter palate that is somewhat crisp. Pretty much a letdown.
3.112 ounce bottle scored from a cooler at a party, not too shabby, hint of floral hops with some citrus in the finish, not really much of an IPA but very quaffable beer
2.2Bottle into shaker. Slightly cloudy amber with small off-white head. Aroma has some hops, lightly floral, honey, candy. Malty and a tiny bit spicy up front and then a total letdown for the finish. Bland. I should have known when I discovered it was a twist off...
2.5A very decent beer at a decent price that falls short of being an IPA. It tastes very light, with only a hint of floral hops. However it is easy to throw a few down the gullet and for the price what do you expect? A very insipid IPA, I felt like I was drinking a pilsner.
3.2Flaska köpt på Hawaii. Gåva från vän. Bärnstensfärgad vätska med lågt skum. Dofter av ananas, citrus och lite halm. Svag beska. Halvtorr munkänsla. Kort eftersmak.
2.912 oz Bottle. The beer pours to a alight amber/orange color with a small white head. The aroma has caramel, resin, a little earthy. Thge taste is light in body with a malt forward front end flavor & virtually no hop bitterness on the finish. I wouldn’t really call this an IPA for my taste, more of a lager to me. Overall not one i would buy again.
3.8pours a golden copper color with a small white head. the aroma is very nice you can pick up the cascade hops. the taste is very good, you can pick up the hops but it is very well balanced and you can pick up some sweetness of the malt as well. this would be the perfect ipa for being just getting into craft beer because it is not too overpowering.
3.6bottle. Poured clear medium amber with an average beige head. Grassy hop aroma. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel with a tart dry finish. Earthy hop flavour, grapefruit citrus notes with a bit of roasted malt. A nice balanced beer, not overly dry.
2.2Straight from the bottle at a friend’s party. Couldn’t assess the appearance. Minimal insight into the aroma. This beer is emblematic of those that made me think I didn’t like IPAs. Weak hoppy flavor, malt-forward, uninteresting. Not recommended.
2.9Bottle. Very light golden color on this, delivers a decent little fuzzy head. Light and pleasantly quaffable, comes off with a bit more of a malty character than you’d expect for the label, bit starchy, too perhaps. Decent center of the scale pale ale. (#5298, 10/19/2013)
2.0Watered down IPA. Got it at O’Charlies. So....I guess it is a macro lovers IPA? As a shirt of mine says, "Don’t Drink Pee" and this is not.
2.9Bottle at home. Pours clear dark amber with a large, creamy off-white head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast and nutty malt with earthy and minty hops, and pear esters. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness with supporting malt and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
2.2On tap. This is to IPA what the Giants are to football this year: directionless, uninteresting, uninspiring and completely forgettable. Only problem I can see with that comparison is that the Giants might be able to improve a little.
3.112 FL oz bottle from a shop in Zion in US. Clear light orange body with a white head. Malty aroma. Taste is bread, a little sweet, soft bitter finish. Strong carbonation. Not an IPA, but rather and pilsner. ***
3.0Bottle at the South Carolina BBQ competition. Didn’t really see the color or detect an aroma because we drank it from the bottle. Taste is slightly peppery caramel. Not much to this one.
2.3This is not a bad beer per se. The thing is that is advertised with so much pompous wording and its just not as good or good at all considering that. Looks like an ambrr lager with almost no head, not very hoppy for an IPA, decent bitterness and some caramel. No aroma and no palate worth of noting. Basically, a bad massively produced IPA for the mini market that you can always choose over the pletora of mediocre american lagers.
3.418 sept 2013, bottle. Yellow, clear, some steady bubbles. Nose is light granola malt and mild lemon rind citrus. Thin body and moderately fizzy. Mild lemon citrus over granola malt. Mediocre n
2.8bottle - Pours slightly hazy orange with a small, lingering head. It has a mild aroma suggesting citrus hops. The flavor is definitely on the low end of bitterness for the style. Sweet caramel malt is there. Light bodied. Mild bitterness. Okay to drink but it has plenty of room for improvement.
2.2Bottle. Really a bland IPA. Golden color. Some head.taste is not as hoppy as a it should be.
2.7Clear copper color with a medium foamy white head that dissipates steadily. Strings of lacing. Aroma of hops, malt and citrus. Light to medium body with flavors of citrusy hops and roasted malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a short hoppy aftertaste. Unmemorable overall.
2.5A mild hop aroma, really not much to it, slight carmel finish, not a good ipa.........
2.508/15/13 at Compass Cove, SC. (Bottle). Very nice aroma with a great taste. One of my favorites during our vacation.
2.6"It’s a big beer with big flavor that really lets you appreciate hops in all their glory" That description isn’t really accurate i would say. A pretty average beer, has a bit of a caramel flavor with some bitter hops blended in towards it’s finish. A bit of a caramel aftertaste.
2.0The worst IPA I’ve ever had. Leave it to Miller/Coors to destroy what was probably once a decent craft brewer. Obviously, in their attempt to keep costs down, they add the least amount of hops possible to even be able to call this an IPA with a straight face.
3.3From the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated Dec 31-12. I am drinking this several months beyond that. It pours medium golden-amber with a modest off-white head that slowly diminishes. The aroma is subtle with caramel and pale malts and low hop notes. The body is medium. The taste has a slightly more hop punch than the nose suggests but the caramel malts are also noted. I like my IPA’s milder and this could fir the bill for everyday drinking.
2.8Amber. Medium head. Aroma: Floral, earth. Flavor: Floral, bread, earthy hops. Bitter-sweet finish. NOT IPA!
It seems more like an Amber Ale and not too bad but an IPA? Only if you get stoned on aspirin...
2.612 ozBottle aroma is bland. Taste is junk lager with a slight hop bitterness... Sticky finish
1.312 oz bottle- Must be one of the worst IPAs i have had. It reminds me of a product that a macro brew would put together to give the impression of legitimacy. Soury wheat flavor. Frothy white head, light yellow. Med bitterness throughout 2.5 BD
