Hertog Jan Dubbel is een traditioneel bier van hoge gisting. In de brouwerij spreken we van een degustatiebier. Dit betekent dat Hertog Jan Dubbel het waard is om met al uw zintuigen geproefd te worden. Waardoor u het in al zijn facetten leert kennen. Eerst schenkt u het uit in een glas en bewondert u het schuim en de fraaie roodbruine kleur. Vervolgens ruikt u het volle zachte aroma. U neemt een slok en proeft het rijk moutige karakter. En tenslotte geniet u van de iets zoete afdronk.

Brown with a creamy beige head. A sticky sticky lacing clings to the glass. An underwhelming aroma has hints of caramel and tea, but my being near the grill made an assessment difficult! Taste is mildly sweet most of the way through. A bit of lingering licorice at the end. Body to the lighter side of medium, feels too watery given the ABV. Kind of an empty experience. Okay.
Robe rouge sombre, mousse moyenne brun clair, peu durable. Nez caramel grillé, fruit cuit. Attaque équilibrée, grillée, petite amertume. Arômes présents mais pas exubérants, surtout pour le degré, ça se boit plutôt bien. Très classique mais bien fait.

The looks of the beer are nice. It is a typical Dubbel beer. The color is a nice ruby red, with a blend of chestnut. It has a nice reddish glow. It is slightly hazy and on top a nice layer of beige tinted soft fluffy foam. Foam retention is good. A thick drape is left on the beer.
The aroma of the beer is nice. It has a nice malt bouquet. Somer caramel and toffee, and some syrup and a touch of candy sugar. A hint of roast is there in the back. Hops are mainly herbal and a bit earthy. Some notes of plummy fruit are there in the back, maybe yeast derived. All in all, the typical Dubbbel aroma. Nice though.
The taste of the beer is nice too. Sweetness from the malts and some alcohol sweetness. The hops and some of that roast gives a nice bitterness. The beer is well balanced.
The palate is good. Medium-full body, smooth texture and a nice medium carbonation. The finish is nice. Some alcohol warmth, pleasant delicate malt aromas with these warming caramel and toffee notes. All in all, a smooth nice typical Dubbel beer.
Niets bijzonders een matige slappe dubbel.
In verleden gedronken op fles, in t kielzog van die vele smaken van Hertog Jan, Arcen. Stond nog niet op RateBeer. Nu dus wel

Taste. Caramel with fruity notes, a slight sweetness diluted with acidity, slightly spicy. Aftertaste with a slight bitterness.
Lovely malty soft easy drinking beer that comes in a ceramic bottle and cork. Mad price at the supermarket. Will have this again s a brilliant value for money beer.
Pours a dark brown with a large short-lasting caramel head. Medium body with average carbonation

Dubbel dal colore intenso, schiuma non molto persistente ma compatta, profumo intenso. Aroma di malto, caramello e mou. Sentori di spezie. Dolcezza un poco invadente.
(Flasche) Es hat eine warme dunkelbraune Farbe mit einem leichten rot Einstich, es ist filtriert mit einer rötlich braunen Schaumkrone. Das Aroma ist hefig, Brett, etwas röstig, mit etwas Rinde im Kopf. Der Geschmack ist karamellig, schlanker als erwartet, leicht samtig mit einer leichten Hefenote im Abgang.

Donkerbruin bier met beperkte schuimkraag. Redelijk vlak van smaak, licht zoet, licht wrange afdronk.

This beer is dark and has a beige, frothy head. Earthy smell of caramel and peaches. Extremely sweet taste for a dubbel. Not my case. It was so bad, I had to throw it away after a few sips.

Cerveja escura cor caramelo escuro, espuma marrom.
Aroma alcoólico tostado e caramelado.
Sabor caramelado levemente adocicado e com sabor alcoólico típico do estilo. Me surpreendeu o destaque dos maltes tostados e o amargor equilibrado.
Retrogosto alcoólico quente tostado.

Backlog. Dark Belgian. Roasty taste. Could be a little more complex, but well made.
Bottle. Color: Clear ruby, off- white head. Aroma: Caramel malt, brown sugar. Taste: Moderate to medium sweet, moderate bitter, dark malt, caramel, brown sugar. Medium body, bit watery, just below average carbonation. Too thin.
Klassisch malzig mit Noten von Karamell. Etwas schwer, dabei ausgewogen in der Perlung und zum Schluss hin leicht süß und schwer. Nicht schlecht.

Blomsterberg
Donker bruin/koperrood bier met een milde bruine schuimkraag. Het bier begint met een milde zoete smaak waarna deze al snel zoeter en plakkeriger wordt. Het Smaakt zeer sterk naar zoete mouten en karamel. Al vrij snel komen daar de smaak van gebrande mouten bij en een licht bloemig bittertje.

Ok clear nutty pour and a decent tan head. Moderate intensity in the aroma.

Clear brown ruby pour with a thin off white layer. Caramel, roasted malts, toffee, dried red fruits, some raisins for aroma. Halfway medium bitter sweet with a mild acidic aftertaste. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice but not amazing.
Shared at the first 2019 THT. Pours an amber with a tan head. Sweet malts, caramel, raisins.
Bottle at THT January. Dark brown with offwhite head. Rye bread, sweet, apple syrup, bubblegum. Quite sweet and moderate bitter. Medium body and soft carbonation. Malty and slick.

Bottle shared at THT January ‘19. Clear bodied with a tan head. Aroma of malt, toffee, caramel and overripe dark fruits. Flavour is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
Bottle at first THT 2019. Clear light reddish brown with beige head. Cardboard, sweet brown sugar, dried plums and raisins, soft grass, apple. Bit over medium sweet and medium bitter. Medium bodied.
Ja ik wist het van te voren, dit is een te zoete dubbel en het werd een te zoete dubbel. Don't get me wrong was en ben nog steeds groot fan van Hertog Jan pils maar dit is gewoon simpelweg te zoet. Zoete gebrande karamel bom wat uitstekend bij de herst-winter past maar wel met een iets te lichte body van smaak. Waardoor het teveel naar alleen suiker en misschien ook wel te waterig proeft. Dat maakt dat zijn body iets te commercieel aandoet. Uiterlijk niks mis mee met zijn donkere kleur maar wel weinig koolzuur en wat er aan crèmekleurige schuim komt. Oké dit laatste is eigenlijk bijna meteen verdwenen. Licht gekruide karamel geur als voorbode wat gaat komen. Trommelgerof..... Een redelijk gebrouwen brouwsel om op koude dagen aan de massa te serveren. Vraag alleen af of ze daar nog wel op zitten te wachten met de Beercraft explosie die nu de laatste jaren plaats vindt en alleen maar grootser wordt. Proefglas
Flesje thuis gedronken. Donkerbruin bier met mooie schuimkraag. Aroma van karamel en gebrande mout. Het zoete en moutige komt ook in de smaak naar boven. Jammer dat het weinig body heeft.
Op 16-04-2019 een fles met THT okt-'07 gedronken. Deze fles heeft door zijn leeftijd een zachte houtige smaak en afdronk gekregen. De smaak ebt helaas snel weg.
