Het Anker Gouden Carolus Cuvée Van De Keizer Imperial Dark (Blauw Label)

Het Anker Gouden Carolus Cuvée Van De Keizer Imperial Dark (Blauw Label)

Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition.

This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus Classic.

The 75cl bottles are closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. This exceptional ale ages well, developing a refined complexity and intense aromas. With powerful notes of roasted malts, caramel and plums, its surprisingly soft and fruity aroma combines a warm roundness with a refreshing taste. An imperial brew to cherish and enjoy in moderation.

Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

4.5 Dark brown. Smells of dark fruits and bread. Flavours are dark fruits, caramel, faint notes of chocolate and slight port. Perfect balance and lovely mature taste. Great beer
4.7 amooth sweet and great
3.8 Sort flad skum ingen Kaffe portvin choklade vinøs Sød modrate sød lidt Flad cremet Årgang 2002
4.7 This is the best and tastiest beer I've tasted. Fruits, caramel, faint notes of chocolate, port and many more shades of all, all in perfect balance and impeccable taste. Masterpiece!!
3.7 2019 vintage. Pours dark brown, with reddish hints if seen through light. About one finger of slightly off-white head. Decent retention, especially for the abv. Aroma shows a base of sweet malts: caramel, light chocolate, but also a roasted hint. A touch of fruitiness (figs?). A warming feel. Overall a fine/soft kind of aroma, especially for such high abv. Taste feels a bit more potent. Nice malts complexity: caramel, light chocolate, light roasted hints. Dried/dark fruits. There is a warming, slight port-like feel, but the alcohol is perfectly hidden. The beer is overall obviously sweet but always in very good balance, thanks to strenght and to a touch of earthiness in the finish. The aftertaste is a clean, lightly fruity one. Dense in body as obvious, perhaps not so much for the abv; light to medium, delicate carbonation. Overall, a semi-thick but soft, nicely creamy mouthfeel. I was maybe expecting something more complex/rich, but this beer finds excellent balance and drinkability for such a strong beer, and feels like a fine, soft strong ale.
4.2 Very good. Smooth, great Aroma, flavorful but not too thick. ABV is definitely there.
4.3 It pours dark brown with a tan head. Head retention is medium. Malty rich aromas with strong dark fruits. It has caramel notes with plums and dried cherries. There is some spice in support. It also has light perfumy notes in the background as well. The malt flavors are highlighted by deep caramel and a bit of bread. There are plums and dried cherries with a bit of a molasses like element to it. There is a bit of spice well in the background. It has a medium full body with a dry finish in spite of the initial sweetness. Overall, for such a strong alcohol beer, the alcohol is pleasant and warming without any harsh alcohols. A good combination of flavors from the malt, hops and yeast.
3.9 Flaska (2020). Aningen disig brunfärgad med ett smutsvitt skum. Dofter av marsipan, torkad frukt, trä och choklad. Smakinslag av marsipan, karamell, torkad frukt, vanilj, trä och färska fikon. Medel mot stor kropp.

3.9 2017 batch. Smell-weak to medium, caramel, Belgian, malt, pleasant. Foam - sweet, caramel, Belgian yeast, acidic. Head is small, light brown-white, coffee foam color. Appearance - re-sealable bottle, label etched on the bottle. Very dark brown color, close to being black. No visible carbonation. From - snifter Taste - caramel, sweet, alcohol, malt, Belgian yeast, acidic. Some cola taste to it. A fine Belgian, alcohol is definitely here but is still somewhat hidden. Might buy a bottle just to age it a bit more. This one is from 2017.
4.8 Dark ale, good head. Wonderful creamy and smooth aromas, subtle caramel, red fruits and roasted notes. The taste is basically an extension of the smell. Full body, creamy, smooth and very well balanced complexity of flavours. The good subtle mature and red fruits sweetness is nicely balanced with the roatsed caramel malty notes and subtile bitterness. A somewhat smoother, less 'sharp' version of the Whisky Infused dark ale. Wonderful.
