4.1 Pours a very dark brown, nearly black with a medium off white head. Aromas of raisins, muscovado sugar, roasted malt, liquorice. Taste is quite sweet with a robust malty roasted backbone. Medium carbonation with a quite substantial body.
Ocena potraktowana skryptem do przeliczania ocen (uzgodnienie UT/RB).
3.8 Very pleasant quaff, Soft, lighter on the palate than you would expect but still full bodied and warming. Will pair well with a multi-course meal with various dishes.
3.8 Bb 5.2.2016. Aged around 3 years. Dark brown color, white head. Aroma has raisins, plums, spices, licorice, some wooden notes. Sweet malts, raisins, wooden notes, caramel.
4.5 Aromat: rodzynki, suszone owoce, tosty, karmel, delikatne brzoskwinie. Wygląd: barwa ciemno miedziana, piana średnio obfita, ale ładnie oblepia szkło. Smak: dość słodkie, głównie brzoskwinie i rodzynki, karmel i tosty na drugim planie, goryczka raczej niska, alkohol lekko grzeje w przełyku.
W smaku podobnie, suszona gruszka, figi i daktyle połączone z namoczonymi w rumie rodzynkami, wielkanocnym keksem bakaliowym i słodkim winem z ciemnych winogron. Treściwe, lekko wyklejające, bogate, średnio nagazowane, z delikatną korzenną goryczką i przyprawami (przede wszystkim gałka muszkatołowa i imbir) w posmaku oraz alkoholowym rozgrzewaniem w przełyku. Piwo świąteczne, kojarzące się z wielkanocnym ciastem, słodkie, deserowe, bogate.
3.6 2015 bottle. The cork just limped out of the bottle but it was carbonated when poured. Clear, chestnut brown color with ruby highlights and a thin khaki head. Pretty big aroma of sweet malt, demerara sugar, Belgian yeast and a hint of hops. That is classic Belgian dark ale except maybe a touch thin right now but could develop over time. Good.
3.3 Darker and sweeter body that still drinks light, as it warms anise fennel notes really come to dominate
3.4 (draft @ MacGregor’s - Henrietta, NY) Brown pour with a puffy tan head. Caramel aroma with yeast and spice underneath. Flavor is a lot of sweet malts with hints of caramel and toffee. Smooth and well blended but nothing really special.
3.7 Stick with the Noel and Blue for a better experience. This is good, but not in the league of the others.
3.3 Dark reddish brown colour, firm cream head. Aroma of liquorice, iron, caramel, malts. Light bitter flavour, caramel, burned sugar, roasted malts, sweet brown sugar, iron. Quite pronounced minerals. Finish caramel, dark, somewhat burned caramel, iron, roasted malts, liquorice root, brown sugar. Too bad of the strong iron notes. (from 75cL bottle shared @ home. Procured at the brewery in 2012 or 2013. BBF 12 Feb ?16 - and definitely not a golden ale)
3.7 0,75L bottle (shared by FatPhil, thanks!), BB 17.02.15. Pours copper with light brownish head. The head stays for some time. Aroma is sweet, caramel, dark fruits. Flavor sweet, dark fruits, plums, caramel, and fennel. Overall: very nice brew.
3.2 Grote fles gekocht in Mechelen. Ruikt zoetig, mout, bubblegum. Smaak is vrij zoet, bubblegum. beetje peper, hoestsiroop. Medium body. Een wat wrangzoete nasmaak. Niet zo mijn smaak.
3.8 750ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Cloudy dark brown color. Medium size, brown head, stays. Sweet, cummin seeds, raisins, brown sugars, dark bread in aroma. Dark bready, raisins, licorice, berries in taste. Pure breadyness in aftertaste. Nice full body. So bready. Beautiful brew!
3.8 750ml bottle As I pour, there’s an absolutely beautiful winey cognacky aroma. In the glass it’s less special, but there’s tonnes of caraway. Absolutely beautiful soft malty body. Very nice hoppy finish, even has the fullness of hops that I expect from fresh hops. Love the soft sweet malty body, some mammi, lovely rye bread. Palate so smooth. Totally love this. Underrate?
3.6 Bottle. About five years old, over BB. Dark brown beer, medium beige head. Sugary, dried-fruity nose, yeast hints, spice notes. Flavor is more dried fruit, booze, spice, mild perfume and perfume in the finish. Very smooth and fruity, probably the aging in effect here.
3.7 Bottle at home. Two years old. In the glass the beer is nut brown, and is somewhat unclear. There is formed a small, light beige foam head. Aroma is filled with dried fruit, but also anise, brown sugar, dark wood and some chocolate and some liqueur like. The taste has even more touch of raisins and prunes, and dark berries, anise and leather. Mouth feel is surprisingly light and smooth, and it is a light bitterness on this. An absolutely nice and balanced, dark strong Belgian ale that is just right complex.
3.5 Bottle, jaarmarkt Waasmunster. Pours mahogany murky brown. Spiced nose over burned malts. Quite some anise / staranise in the aroma, balanced but sweet, fondant chocolate. Not better than the original.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a ring of light tan head. Aroma of spice, yeast, and dark fruits. Taste of dark fruit, caramel, and a slight buzz of alcohol.
3.7 Bottled from Systembolaget Dark brown with a tan head. Marzipan and almond in the aroma. Sweet and vinous flavour. Spicy marzipan.
4.0 Bottle. Pours a dark amber brownish with a light tanned head. Aroma of light banana and clove and a sweet candylike aroma. Some vinous alcohol notes as well. Taste is sweet with candy and malts. Along with loads of estery fruity notes. Full body and high co2 level.
3.2 Bottle (75 cl) from Systembolaget. Shady chestnut, medium beige head. Sugray, caramelly, with clear notes of aniseed. Full bodied, medium carbonation. Sweet with low bitterness.
3.6 Bottle @easter lunch with the Pratts. One finger well lasting foam. Fruity red Apple notes. Intense anis almond flavours. Very warming alcohol.
3.8 Red with tan head. Aroma is raisins, belgian spice, vanilla and licorice. Full raisins, booze, spice, licorice and vanilla. Overall: excellent!
3.5 750 ml/75 cl, flaske, 10,5 % ABV, 03/01/17, gave fra Kir’ og Roberto - tak! 20. marts 2015.
4.1 Bottle. Nose is licorice, star anise, orange, dough, cellar, vanilla, candy sugar, plums, slight strawberry and banana, very very appealing. Taste is strawberry leading to a dubble note of nut, slight cola, candy sugar, spice, anise, hint or licorice molasses, slight pepper, some dark fruit, dark fruit, chocolate in the rich finish. Mouthfeel is fine. I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting, I’ve never been that bothered on Carolus, which very sweet, this was a really enjoyable well balanced spiced dubbel.
Szybko uderza do głowy.
3.5 Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel aroma with weak hints of dark fruit. Sweetish malty spicy caramel and dark fruit flavor. Has a sweetish malty spicy caramel finish.
3.8 nice sweeet licorice aroma, brown, off white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, nice harmonic licorice finish.
3.4 Amber coloured and clear. Has an off-white head, medium duration. Sweet aroma, notes of anise. Flavor is sweet, notes of anise, malty sweet, faint bitter finish.
