Het Anker Gouden Carolus Easter Beer (2007-2009)

Het Anker Gouden Carolus Easter Beer (2007-2009)

Blond rich beer that is brewed each year during the easter period. It contains several types of malt and during brewing 3 herbs are added.

This pleasant golden blond beer is chosen for he who loves a richer, somewhat spicy and refreshing beer.

Disclaimer: This entry is for the vintages from Gouden Carolus Easter Beer from 2007 to 2009 onwards. Before it was a dark beer. In 2007 the recipe changed to a blond beer.

3.5 Bottle. Pours a golden color with a small white head. Has a malty spicy yeasty aroma. Sweetish malty spicy yeasty flavor. Has a warming malty spicy yeasty finish.
3.5 Bière typique la la gamme Carolus, présence de malt brun et levure haute, fruitée très sucrée, ici forte présence d’épices comme l’anis, cannelle et cardamone, un peu lourde mais très bonne bière.
3.8 750, corked and baled. thanks dany! pours a murky medium caramel amber with a loose and rocky white head that really sticks around. big spicy yeasty nose. candied easter eggs and meringue notes on the nose. creamy, smooth medium body with lots of lively carb. caramel, white pepper, creamy egg custard on the mid palate. long spice and caramel finish.
3.6 Dark brown with a fizzy white head. Caramel, chocolate, vanilla and spice aroma. Slightly bright palate. Chocolate and strong vanilla taste with mild sweet spice.
3.6 A golden amber ale with a thick off white head. In aroma, a pleasant fruity ester aroma, with warming alcohol, and light vanilla notes. In mouth, a warming alcohol with sweet malt, coriander, light candy sugar, a bit too much. Bieropholie import. Tasted April 24, 2010.
3.5 Head: small colour: blond ,clear smell: alcohol , sugar , spices , bubblegum taste: bubblegum , anis , soft balanced overall tatse , not bad !
3.8 2008 bottle. Pours a cloudy, almost murky, golden amber with a fluffy off-white head that drops to a thin cap. The nose is initially fruity with notes of apricot and pear giving way to a slightly acidic sour note over pale malt. Medium-bodied and fairly lively on-the-tongue, it finishes a bit tart with a mild, yet lingering, peach pit bitterness. Fruity and mildly tart apricot with a complimentary spicy note (perhaps grains of paradise?) and a lesser pear note that lacks the juicy sweetness of the actual fruit. More sweet than dry or tart, before you swallow, at the finish it swings to the opposite side of the spectrum. This is a pretty interesting beer. I can see it pairing really well with pork, chicken and other lighter fare.
3.4 2009 Bottle pours gold amber with a creamy eggshell head and some spotty lacing. Aroma is on the sweet side, showing notes of caramel, peach, apricot, clove, baking spice, and what seems like strawberry at times. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of liquorice and the spice shows (cinnamon/nutmeg)ish characteristics. Overall body is moderate, with moderate sweetness, and a touch of warming alcohol on the finish. Good thing I shared it, I don’t think I would have been able to finish a full one solo since it’s a little too sweet for me.
3.6 Bottle. Clear amber colour with medium creamy off-white mostly lasting head. Malty aroma with notes of caramel. Sweet spicy flavor. Creamy palate.
3.8 750ml from Tyler’s Bottle Shop, Carrboro. Seems to be some confusion about this beer’s various recipes. This is clearly marked as the 2010 bottle, at 10.5%, but it’s also not a blonde beer. Deep reddish/brown pour, with a very thick and long lasting two-finger head. Notable aroma of GC’s house yeast strain, but with some more fragrant spices framing the malts and distinguishing it from their Grand Cru or Classic, for example. Some lively hops are in there too, and the beer’s certainly vibrant enough for springtime, despite its dark appearance. As Miles once said about a fish sandwich, "whatever it is, it’s gooder than a motherfucker."
3.6 Bottle. Pours amber/brown with a white head. Flavor is molasses, dark fruit, licorice, and resin. Not too bad.
4.0 On tap at Stone Brewery Bistro. Brown red color. Banana pear peach aroma. Fruity. Lightly sweet. Belgian yeast. Some apple. Pretty good. Easy to drink. Easter beer sounds appropriate. Gouden Carolus is a pretty awesome brewery.

4.1 750 ml bottle. Pour is medium golden with a fluffy white head. Aroma is spicy with clove, banana, light malt, and strong Belgian esters. Flavor is well blended and very yeasty with light clove, sweet malt, and a warm alcohol feeling. Real fine brew that is meant to be enjoyed in front of a fireplace or after a nice "Easter" meal.
4.9 750 ml. corked bottle. Hazy golden-amber colour, pours a dense, compact head that doens’t hold too long, but leaves crown and lace. Smells of tropical fruit (mango), bananas, maybe even some apricot and/or peach. Spices, clove or cardamom, coriander, hints of vanilla, wood aged oloroso or amontillado sherry. Viscous or sticky flavour, brandy notes. Taste is more of the same, here is the mango and bananas, the spices, the wood and the brandy feeling, some oranges too. Very brandy like aftertaste, a really great great one.
3.7 A clear orange/light brown colored beer, with a thick foamy beige head. The aroma of caramel, with coffee candy and some dark fruits like raisins. A little sweet. The taste of cara,el. hints of chocolate. It’s a little dry. Notes of sweet moving to bitter. A little sticky. The aftertaste is dry bitter with brown spiced biscuit.
3.6 750ml Bottle - Amber with a white head. Fruity and sweet aroma with hints of peach and apricot. Caramel features in the taste along with hints of fruits such as berries, apricot and peach and a spicy malt element.
3.8 Bottle. Red wine in appearance with a beige foam. Aromas are bubblegum and mellow berries with soft spices and lots of herbal notes. Some burnt caramel. Flavours are softy berries with some chocolate malts. Medicinal and herbal with cola and brown sugar. Toffee with some aniseed. Sticky ripe pear and earthy hops. Has a good foam in the mouth palate.
2.7 2009 Bottle. Pours yellow golden with white head. Sweet sugary aroma, quite herbal. Tastes like circus peanuts... way too sweet and one dimensional.
3.3 21-JUN-2009. Bottle @home. This is a funny one. It is like a weisse, hezy with with white head. And then the aroma and flavor! It is "honningbolcher"! Honney and fennel. Too overwhelming. Very sweet, but no rebuy here.
3.6 Pours a silty, hazed copper under a low, fluffy, off-white head which settles moderately to a lasting film. The nose finds fruity, yeasty esters and a pronounced, sharp cheesiness. A little flat on the palate yet full-bodied and creamy. Low cardamom stimulates the upper palate before pears, grapes and leafy greens. Alcohol really shows in the nose as it warms up but doesn’t overpower in the flavor. ~~~~~~~~ Vintage 2007. A generous pour from the mensch known as Cornfield.
3.5 Bottle, courtesy kiefdog. Thick cloudy copper pour, thick white head and thick lacing. Boozy nose, apricot, peach and plum, banana, and some caramel. Creamy caramel flavors, some dark fruits, some cocoa and licorice, finishes boozy. Full-bodied, not too drinkable because of the heat. But interesting.
3.2 Bottled: Sweet malty aroma, cough lozenge, medicin. Malty, very sweet flavor, sharp alcohol notes, some roasted malts. Bitter hop finish. Unharmonic beer.
