Het Anker Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor

Het Anker Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor

Bottle: Unfiltered

Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers.

Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm).

5 types of hops are used in this beer. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma.

Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma.

3.1 Nesten klar strågul med hvitt skum. Lukter gjær, alkohol, banan. Litt oljete i munnfølelse.
1.6 Fat på chapter. Duktiga bartendern Julia varnade mig for denna öl ha ha. Hon sa den smakade spritigt. Ja nog om henne. Ölen smakar starkvin, lite billig parfym och sen en dos belgisk jäst. Puuuh Vidrigt. Häller ut
3.6 Old rating from 2017 - 330ml bottle brought back from Belgium. Pours golden with a white head. Aromas & tastes of grass, herbs, fresh pear, ripe apple, pepper & bread malts. Moderate body. Smooth slight resin & acidic finish
3.5 The aroma is mild fruity esters, bananas, cloves, candies. Herbaceous, spicy hops. Straw in color, slightly hazy with good fine-grained foam. Spicy flavor, some floral hops, moderate bitterness, dry finish. Medium body, medium carbonation.
2.4 30cl bottle. An ok beer, but for me not the best Gouden Carolus around. Not becoming a regular in my fridge
3.9 Slightly hazy bronze. Massive head upon pouring which was slow to dissipate. Bitter and full bodied.Nothing subtle about this one. Left lots of lacing and a strong bitter aftertaste.
4.0 Spicy aroma with the traditional pepper, clove with a fruity reminiscent of banana, pear and orange. Large thick, dense white foam on a fuzzy orange golden liquid. Taste let spread an intense carbonatation typical of Belgian beers. Enhanced by spices with notes of pepper and cloves accompanied by a strong fruitiness of pear and orange. The finish is of a sliced bitterness with accents of earth and spices bordering on the slight astringency. Beautiful combination of fruits and spices with a fairly well integrated alcohol, almost absent malts and very intense and bitter hops giving us a dry and long finish. Very characteristic of Belgian beers but with an unusual bitterness for this style. A: 7.304 A: 4.110 T: 8.167 M: 4.075 O: 16.321 T: 39.977
3.5 0.33 l bottle from Vrutak, Zagreb. Shared with little Dina. Hazy golden, medium creamy off-white head. Lightly to moderately hoppy, herbal and citrusy but still mostly yeasty. Honey, ripe apple or quinces and some spice. Bready background. Smooth, medium body, moderate carbonation. Quite sweet. Honey, bread, dough, spices. Alcohol. Some tartness and almost no bitterness. Light hoppy finish. A good Belgian strong with a rather odd use of hops.
3.3 Almost clear, golden color and a nice white head. Very hoppy, lots of dry bitterness.

3.5 330ml bottle. Cloudy dark orange with a thick frothy white head. Flavors are dough, yeast, orange and spices with herbal and floral notes. Medium body, lively carbonation, oily texture.
3.8 opaque bronze with very large white foamy head. perfumy aroma, thick soapy, strong level of high-flower aroma, no grassiness. low bitterness, wheaty, dry-malty body. effervescent. some prickly tang at the end. very interesting. further hop complexity as beer opens up like a hopped up, higher strength wit. very smooth would buy again
3.4 it looks golden and has a head that does not last long. the aroma has some citrus and bread - thing going on, with a hint of yeast. the taste is close to a belgian blond beer, a trappist maybe, but it also has a bit of lemon-peel there. after a second taste i get yeasty bitterness that lasts. Not bad at all. a nice variation on a blond beer i guess.
4.0 Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a hazy golden/amber colour with a huge fluffy pure white head. Nice looking beer. Aromas of zesty citrus fruits, floral, spice, herbs, grass and hints of tropical fruit. Taste is the same notes as the aroma, very hoppy, leafy with a grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied with a lively prickly mouthfeel. Very fresh tasting. Lovely beer.
3.7 On tap at Het Anker brewery, Mechelen. A very thick and dense off-white head on top of a hazy pale golden pour. Aroma is quite low: bread, lemon, a tinge of smoke. Dry mouth, but not bone-dry. Full body, crisp and grassy bitter. Quite long-lasting. Nice finish.
3.5 Colore giallo Oro velata, versa due dita di schiuma compatta. Aroma di lievito, frutti chiari con una punta di spezie. Gusto leggermente luppolato, con note erbacce seguite seguiti da sentori di lievito belga e frutti chiari.
3.4 Bottle from Systembolaget Rotebro. Hazy golden with a large white head. Floral hops, citrus, grass and some herbs and notes of soap. Dry and with a bitter finish.
3.5 Lite besk. Alkoholstark med lite jästsmak. Ganska ok.

3.5 Keg at De Beiaard, Amsterdam on 29/11/2008. A nice Belgian blonde with much more pronounced hoppy note than most. Leafy, herbal and grassy hop aroma. Still got the fruity esters, but with more grassy bitterness.
3.7 Oklar orange med tjockt vitt skum. Doftar fruktigt, lite malt. Smaken fyllig, besk, lite söt och kryddig. Eftersmaken lång med fruktig, ihållande beska.

3.4 @ Havregatan 20200501. Bottle (330 ml) from Systembolaget. Fruity, yeasty and spicy, sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry, fruity and yeasty.
3.6 @ Gammelgårdsvägen 30/4-20. Bottle from Systembolaget. Fruity and yeasty with spices. Body is medium, the finish is dry and spicy.
3.6 Bottle from Systembolaget. It blends sweet belgian strong pale notes with a mighty hop backing. The result is very mature.
4.2 33cl bottle @ home. Hazy orange golden with a white fluffy head. Citrus, green banana, kiwi, yeast, almonds and a hint of Clove on the nose. Citric fruity sharp and herbal hoppy taste. Green banana and some tropicals. Yeast and almonds. Medium to full body with soft mushy carbonation. This is really good! Some people call it a belgian IPA but I think that’s unnecessary. It’s hoppy, sure, but it’s unmistakingly belgian. Feels like a more streamlined Westmalle Tripel. Or a Duvel maybe.
