Het Anker Gouden Carolus Indulgence 2016 - Cuvée Sauvage

Gouden Carolus Indulgence (Indulgence, noun, \in-’d?l-j?n(t)s\ something that is done or enjoyed as a special pleasure) is a limited series of beers brewed every year with varying content. These ‘Indulgence’ brews are exclusive delights to be savoured at special moments or shared with special people.

Cuvée Sauvage is the 2nd taste to be produced under this label. Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Rood was blended with 2- and 3-year-old Lambic (20%) from the Boon Brewery (Lembeek). This union combines the best of two brewing traditions: full-bodied and subtly flavoured, fruity and refreshingly sour.

21° plato

EBC 11

The 2-year-old Lambic comes from oak foudre N°21 (9,000L). It offers aromas of apples, citrus fruits and oak.

The 3-year-old Lambic has aged in oak pipes (600L), and contains more volatile acids that give the beer a powerful, full-bodied and vinous taste with a slightly smoked touch.

3.5 From backlog. Taster from bottle at bottleshare, Escondido, Ca. Golden with little head. Apple, peaches, malts, yeast.
3.8 Bottle from Philippe. Pours clear golden some head no lacing. Notes are Apple cider, lemon dish soap, some peach. Taste light sweet light/medium bitter and light tart. Light body lively carbonation.
3.5 Bottle- Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Moderate malty and hopy and yeasty aroma. Light bitter nice acetic flavor. Average moderate bitter sour finish. Oily palate.
3.5 Hazy yellow/golden. Aroma is apple, a little raisin, some vanilla. Like a good balanced cider. TAste is minerally cheesecake and apple at first. Some sweet apple and apple peel. bitter leathery funky finish. Not 100% tasty. A little too much apple peel. Still good.
3.7 Bottle. Deep golden, nice offwhite foam. Funky dusty grainy, light apple esters. Medium body, nice foamy. Light fruit/bubblegum/green apple, dry lambic notes lingering, a bit wood and cobweb, still some sweet apple pie notes in the finish.
3.8 Bottle. Clear golden color with large long-lasting white head. Aroma is apple peel, light funk, not much Lambic just fresh yellow apple, a touch cinnamon, Bratapfel. Taste is apple peel, cinnamon-ish, bubblegum, leather, just a touch of the Lambic character there. Sparkly carbonation, not overattenuated. Quite dry after 2 years, good!
3.7 0.75 bottle. Fantastic fine head, long lasting. Golden color. Great sweet-sour aroma. Very dry & balanced especially for 9.8% beer, probably great with fish.
3.8 A 750ml corked and caged bottle, released in Summer ’16, with a best before end 2018 date. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. It was a slightly hazy golden orange colour with a big almost three finger off white head that had pretty good retention and left lots of nice lacing. Aromas sweet champagne-y, sour fruit, peach, pink lemonade, sparkling apple cider, lemon zest, light oak and hints of funk. Tastes moderately sweet, champagne, peach, lightly sour, lemonade, lemon zest, apple, pineapple, Belgian yeast and a mix of spices. Medium bodied, moderate to high carbonation and a dry finish. Quite nice overall, but I’m unsure of the necessity to make the ABV so high. With its aroma and flavours, I would have preferred an easy drink rather than one that’s more like a sipper.
3.7 Copenhagen 23/6 2018. 75 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik, Vanløse. Golden print on the bottle to make it look exclusive and expensive. Signature by the brew master. A little booklet around the neck of the beer sprouting generalities. Pours slightly hazy golden yellow with big white head. Settles as thin layer of ofam barely covering the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing. Aroma is not without sweetness but dominated by sourness. Some sweet lemonade meeting an abundance citrus, unripe gooseberries and a touch of funk. Fairly strong carbonation providing lively mouth sensation. Thin, watery texture. Flavor is medium sweet followed by strong sourness. Aftertaste is sour bordering on the acidic. Finish is dry like white wine. Not for everyone - but a civilized wild ale wit a vinous touch.
4.0 Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing! Looks good in the glass, zippy, small head. Starts malty with sourish fruity notes, not too intense. Notes of apple. Finish well balanced, spicy-malty still with fruity hints. Nice!
Skojarzenia z Wild Sour Pigwa?
3.3 Z: przyprawy do kurczaka. Kurde no takie kwaśne curry. Dziwne, ale pijalny kwasek.
3.4 Butelka. Barwa zlota. Piana biała w miarę trwała. Dużo przypraw, rześkie, owocowe. Posmaki przyprawowe, wysycenie w kierunku wysokim.
3.3 Aromat wyraźnie kolendry, plus zboże i kwaskowosc. Barwa i piana ok. W smaku kolendra plus kwaskowosc i alkohol. Na finiszu też alkohol. Przeciętne.
4.7 From Labirratorium. In Tekub glass. Playing Avernum 2. Superb belgian strong pale ale profle with soft, saisonesque notes that makes it feel very refreshing and moreish. Masterpice. Only downside is its aspect, which is too foaming, requiring 3 pours.
4.1 Flaska från SB. Tack Daniel.
3.9 Tasting @ Koelschtrinker. Thanks to Jan for sharing! Smooth and deep fruity beginning. Lots of spices there, hints of wood. Sticky fruity, herbal, deep. Very interesting and hard to describe. Dry christmas-candy, peaches, nice smooth sourness. Lots of herbs and spices in the aftertaste - anise, sugarcane, malts. Fascinating deep and easy tod rink. Great stuff!

3.5 Sampled @ Koelschtrinker Tasting. A clear golden beer with a small white head. Aroma of belgian yeast, spices, yellow fruits, hints of banana. Taste of mild citrusy hops, belgian yeast, spices.
3.6 Sampled from 0.75 l bottle from 'Bierhuys', 2016 vintage. Clear, golden yellow with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, slightly sourish, quite fruity, slightly spicy and a bit funky aroma of caramel, coriander, vanilla, some lemon skin and a touch of citrus. Moderately sweet, a bit sourish, quite spicy, slightly fruity and and a little funky taste of caramel, coriander, lemon skin, vanilla and some barnyard, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly tart, rather spicy and a bit dry finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite nice, the lambic adds a refreshing touch to an otherwise quite saturating beer.
2.6 Hefig säuerlicher, moderat würziger Antrunk. Bananig, geringe Herbe, unschlüssig. Zu süß werdend. 8/9/9/8/9/8
3.0 Earlier Rating: 2/26/2018 Total Score: 4.8
3.8 12th December 2017 Bodney Towers bottle share. Thanks.to Kwtse. Light haze on this gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Airy palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Fluffy malts, creamy sweet. A little spicy bitter floralness. Dessert wine fruits, tangy orange and lemon. A sweeter floral vibe. Smooth dessert wine finish. My kinda sour.
4.5 (nez levure & acide sec (métal wet, kiwi pas mûr & abricot confit), splendide hybride (lambic & rondeur de triple))
