Het Nest SchuppenAas

Het Nest SchuppenAas

Previously brewed at Anders

Schuppenaas (Ace of Spades) is our fourth beer named after playing cards. For this beer we are obviously inspired by the great "Orval". We use a different yeast for the first fermentation but like Orval the second yeast strain is a Brett. For Hops we chose this time for Tomahawk and Simcoe. Additional Simcoe is added as dry-hopping.

3.5 Clear tanned, big lacing lasting foam head. Taste is hoppy with some bite, aroma is hoppy. Good Beer. (Velp 201804)
3.7 Orange brown colour, weak head, white. Smell is orangy citrus, nice funkiness, hint of vanilla, flowers, slight bitterness. Taste is dry and minerals, iron, good fizz, salty, nice!
3.9 A taste from a bottle @ Belgian embassy of Finland. Pours hazy golden with a medium head. Aroma is slightly tart malts with some yeast. Flavor is sweet tart malts, fruits, yeast and a hoppy finish. Finally a beer that even remotely resembles Orval. Great.
3.8 Bottle at billy’s, antwerp. Dark orange color big offwhite head. Funky smell. Aroma.is fruity with some caramel lots of grass, wood, furniture varnish, funky brett yeast. complex taste, with decent hops bitterness. Very nice orval style, it’s weird but savored and pleasing. Good.
3.8 F: medium size, beige, average retention. C: red/gold, hazy. A: brett-fruity, yeasty, hors-blanket, bit spicy, peach, cheese. T: dry fruity, brett, bit funky, spicy, peppery, bit woody, some notes are similar to Orval, very good and interesting, medium body and carbonation, 33cl bottle from Bierwinkel De Hopduvel in Gent.
3.4 Poured amber. Aroma is citrus and fruits. The citrus returns in the Taste as well. Aftertaste is rather bitter. Dry finish.
3.8 Bottle. Color: Amber, thick frothy off white head. Taate: Alternating sweet and sour notes, herby, fruity, hints of yeast. Lightly hints of caramel and hop, finish is more to the bitter side. Dry moithfeel. Tasting a bit like a fruity version of Orval. Pretty complex and unusual, but nice, taste for an amber.
3.4 Clear, amber colored, medium off white head. Aroma is of some malt, brewing sugar, bit candy, caramel, fruity and spicy Belgian yeast. Taste is medium sweet malt, candy, brewing sugary, some caramel, moderate spicy bitterness, Belgian spicy yeast, bit peppery, dry finish, light alcohol, very faint funk. Medium bodied, average carbonation, oily. (bottle, Bierhalle Deconinck, Vichte)
2.6 Another massive whale pops out of Maakun’s cellar, big thanks! Slightly hazy dark golden amber with thin head. Sweet malts, molten plastics, andives, dandelion. Light sweet and moderate bitter. Medium body. Light spiciness. Weird stuff. Orvals asshole maybe.
3.3 Bottle shared. Slight hazy golden with off white head. Some cardboard, apricot, light caramel and sweet malts, dusty herbs, grassy, light fruity hops, sweat. LOL at this being anything close to Orval. Light sweet and medium bitter. Just medium bodied. It’s not horrible but not very good either.
Gott
3.8 Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel. The beer is amber colored and has a large and stable white foam, with lots of carbonation. The aroma is malty and fruity, with notes of citrus, yeast and grass and fruitiness of appricots, grapefruits and other tropical fruits. Also a hint of wood is noticable. The taste is light sweet and fruity, with notes from the aroma and changes into a pleasant bitterness with fresh hops and some yeast notes. The finish is bitter and dry, and is long noticable. Very good brew.
3.6 Aroma is malts, Belgian yeast and mild alcohol. The flavor is fruit/berries, light Belgian yeast, malts and a mildly sweet/sugar/tart finish.
3.5 Bottle. Massive head on pouring that was very slow to dissipate..Brown appearance and slightly sour. Medium body but I found the taste a bit off putting.
3.3 [Jan 16, 2016] Bottle at Liquorstore The Pint, Amsterdam: Amber body with slight head. Nose is plums, malts, fruits. Taste is malty, sweet and spicy. Good kick to it. Enjoyable.
4.4 Many thanks for this beer to JefVerstraete. Piekna piana jak u Belga, metnosc spora, przepieknie pachnie swiezym ananasem morelka i mirabelka. W smaku te same owoce oraz sycylijska cytryna dochodzi i limonka. Na koniec przeslanie: Lemmy will by glad.
3.2 Thanks to the kind folks at Comme la Gueuze for the bottle! Poured into a sifter showing barely any carbonation with moderately filtered brown. The nose shows a lot of sweet Belgian yeast. The palate is very lightly carbonated and light bodied. Flavors of moderately intense Belgian influence and lightly sweet caramel malts. Nice and simple.
3.3 Bottled 330ml (PETA6) Hazy orange-amber color, good cloudy off-white head, lace. Riped fruits and bretta in the nose. A bit dry cardboardish. Medium-bodied. Bretta, funkyness, spicey and fruity flavor. Bretta overrides American hops. Ok.
3.4 Bottled. Hazy amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is brett, some wood and mild spices as well as some fruits and berries. Flavour is dry wood, some slight tart berries, mild spices as well as some funky notes.
3.6 33cl bottle. Amber/red in colour with small head. The beer has an aroma of honey, cooked dark fruits, dried plums and some raisins. Some roots and cake. Very little carbonation and oily in mouth. The beer is medium sweet with notes of honey, cake and spices. A very delicate fruity sourness and a spicy finish. Some warming alcohol too. The beer has a strong honey profile overall, it has very little to do with Orval but it is still delicious in its own way.
3.4 Very nice amber colour, little hazy. White foam disappearing fast. Smell of fruits and yeast. Taste is very dry, slightly acid and decently bitter but after taste is a little harsh. Bretts note very present. Might need some additional ageing. Probably inspired by Orval but no so well balanced.
3.2 Never a great smelling and looking beer these ambers, but this is a a very good beer. There is some great hoppiness in the finish. Nice one. Bottle from De Zwart in Wilnis.
3.6 Kolor bursztynowy, miedziany, mglisty. Piana be?owa, niezbyt wysoka i generalnie nie jest trwa?a, do?? szybko si? m redukuje.Aromat: s?odowy, owocowy, dominuj? s?odkie cytrusy, w tle pojawia si? kandyzowana skórka pomara?czowa i delikatna zio?owo??.Smak: ponownie s?odowo, owocowo z mocniejszym akcentem skórkipomara?czowej, lekka przyprawowo??. Typowo belgijskie nuty nie s? jednak zbyt mocne.Goryczka niezbyt wysoka, przyprawowo owocowa. Wysycenie ?rednie.
3.7 Funky aroma with some peach and spices. Pours golden with huge white head. Taste is medium dry with funky and fruity notes. Finish is low to medium bitter. Overall good.
4.0 Aroma: Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, fruit, hops and brettanomyces. Appearance: Turbid/opaque amber/orange beer with a medium/large off-white head. Taste/Palate: Starts slight/medium sweet with malts, caramel, Belgian yeast and fruit; ends slightly bitter, dry and sour with hops and brettanomyces.
