High & Mighty Beer of the Gods

At only 4.5%, it won’t keep you from doing the important things in life. Sure, we know that those well-endowed beers will get all the press, but, just once, how about some props for the little guy?

3.5 On tap @ Toronado SD: Poured a glowing vibrant yellow with absolutely no formation of foam on top. Aroma is mild with a scent of high quality grained malt. The flavor is completely different with a heaping serving of hay, barley, wheat, and spicy hops that come right through. Also, notes of tart fruit that has some harsh bitter flavors as well.
4.5 Draft at Jerry’s. Golden with big, foamy white head, and sturdy legs / Dry, lightly sour nose of grain, straw / Medium body, somewhat fat, dry, with excellent balance and bitter finish / Elegant, mellow flavors of grain, cardboard (in a good way), soap, passion fruit, coconut, and cream / A stunner, and as good as session beer as you’ll find.
2.9 Bottle @ NK Saluhall. Cloudy golden colour with a white head. Aroma of malt, herbs, some fruit. Flavour is malty, hops, fruits.
2.5 50cl bottle, bbe 06/13. Golden clear, thin white head. Aroma has malt, sweetness, fruitiness. Flavor is light harsh with malt, caramel sweetness and hops. Finish is light bitter. Light to medium bodied. Forgettable, not very good. No golden ale feelings over this one, more like a massproduced lager.
3.1 Bottle poured a clear yellow with a lasting creamy white head. Aromas of straw, spicy hops and light earthiness. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of straw and light spicy hops with a smooth finish.
3.4 9th August 2012 GBBF. Light haze on this pale gold beer. Few bubbles for a head. Smooth palate, light and dry. A little sherbet lemon and a little nettley pine. Not bad but a tad dry.
3.0 Draft. Golden-straw beer with a white head. Light grain aroma. Spice and light grain flavor. Medium bodied. Spice and light grain lingers.
3.5 Clear golden color with a white head. Fruity ester aroma with a strong biscuit character, some floral hops, and a lot of yeast. A nice bit of earth, bread, and a hint of grass. There’s a slight lemon peel note to the flavor which provides a bit of bitterness. Some sweet pale malt and biscuit notes, a bit of yeast, and lots of floral hops. A light earth and grass character, too.
2.6 Bottle at home. Malty, little fruity aroma. Almost clear golden color, some white head. Low CO2. Malty taste, some hops. Light body.
3.4 Hazy pale yellow body, small fizzy white head, moderate lacing. Nose is cracked pepper, grassy hops, and some lemon zest. A bit zippy like a fresh pilsener. Flavor follows suit with lemon and cracked pepper taking center stage. Light bodied. Crisp finish. A pleasant, but simple beer.
3.9 A very nice lower-octane pale ale. Had it on draft and it is nicely hopped with some citrus and pine.
3.0 A truly humble name. Draft. Cloudy thin yellow, white edge head. Aroma of white pepper, subtle lemon. Taste is bitter pepper.
3.8 Tap at CK thanks to Travlr. Pours a clear golden. Nose is noble hops and melon. Thick biscuit. Mmm. Taste is thicker, bitter, buttery, heavy biscuit. Earthy and peppery. Really nice. Comes across as a pilsener.
3.2 On tap at Churchkey. Clear gold pour, white head and spotty lacing. Very leafy aroma, peppery german hop, a bit of diacetyl. Taste is good, a bit grainy , peppery hop finish. A little bit intense both in aroma and taste. Props for the little guy some other time.
2.8 From old backlog(500ml bottle). Nice golden colour with medium head. Aroma is malt, hops. Flavour is the same as aroma.
2.7 Bottle shared with Linh. Pours a light orange body with light haze and thick white lacing. Aroma is light light wheaty malts. Mouthfeel is lightly bitter, dry hops, pils, wheat, light lemon and grass.
3.3 500ml bottle. Named with just a slight overstatement! Not a bad real ale with a nod to German lagers. I wouldnt rush out and buy this again but it was quite moorish. I believe it’s bottle conditioned which would explain some others saying it was coudy!!!
3.2 12oz bottle. Pours a cloudy golden with a white head. Fairly decent ale with a low abv. Nothing spectacular but crisp and refreshing.and quite drinkable.
3.7 Multiple bottles at Sean and Caitlin’s wedding reception. Fuck yes. What a great beer for a reception--only wish there was more of it. Nice fresh and crisp golden ale, some mild grassy notes, light bready malts, crisp, dry finish. Lovely.
3.6 12 oz bottle. Pours straw-colored, hazy, with a white head. Earthy hop and pilsner malt aroma. Hoppy herbal, earthy, pine, lemon/orange citrus hop flavors, pilsner malt. Nice bitterness. Surprisingly good, really.
2.7 Bottle. Frothy white fair mostly deminishing head. Yellow colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Hay and straw notes. Moderate biter flavoor. Short light bitter finish. Oily palate.
2.9 Bottle. Medium head with medium duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are fruits, malt, hops and hints of butter.
4.0 Draft at Churchkey. Hazy yellow pour, smallish head. Clearly a very fresh keg and boy does this deliver more than I would’ve expected, with a vibrant noble hop nose of spicy and grassy hop, touches of light but gorgeously subtle malt and it dries out at the finish. Excellent beer.
3.0 From a bomber. Pour is very nice too look at, a big rocky head on a bubbling hazey lookin lager colored thing. Smell is crisp and fresh. Taste has lots of sizzling co2. It says its hoppy but the taste is not overwhelming hoppy; you can taste it tho. Hops do build as session continues. Seems to be more than the 4.5% listed here. Overall not bad for a somewhat unsweetened citrusy beer. Didn’t think I’d like this but it was OK!
3.2 Spicy, with a complex hoppy balance...nice flavor. Very crisp. The Gods are pleased I’m sure.
3.0 12 oz. bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks, Blake! Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a medium white head that lasts. Aroma of straw, bread, grass, minerals, sawdust, and perfume. The flavor is absolutely identical. Light-bodied, with medium carbonation and a dry, crisp mouthfeel. Might suffice for lesser gods.
2.6 Bottle at home. Clear yellow with a white head. Aroma light to medium malty (caramel) and hoppy (flowery, notes of citrus). Flavor light to medium sweet and bitter, light spicy. Light body.
3.8 12oz Bottle, purchased at Downtown Wine & Spirits - Somerville, MA. Light, subtle, salty and plain grain aroma. Coulda guessed this was a Golden Ale. Hazy. This really feels and tastes like pils malt. It’s clean and that’s commendable. A nice snap in the finish. The water works well for this brew. It’s pilsner-like, which I enjoy. I think I would have so much more appreciation for this if it was 85F and sunny, which reminds me that this will be a go to summer beer next year. I’m looking forward to having a local, clean malt drinker like this.
2.8 The label sets the bar pretty high and it unfortunately doesn’t hit the mark for me. Pours a yellow colour with a white head that dies away almost immediately. Aroma of yeast and corn. Similar corny flavour with some caramel, grass, yeast and a little alcohol coming through at the back. Low carbonation and a slick, oily mouth-feel. A little CO2 prickle and a long corny, yeasty linger. Not my thing.
2.8 12oz bottle. Pours out a lighter golden hue, white head decent lacing. Not much coming from the aromas, some citrus, little nutty, doughy, but light notes. Crisp and clean palate, but not really much flavor. Palate isn’t super balanced, light and messy, some steely off flavors. Pretty average.
