Highland Clawhammer Oktoberfest

Highland Clawhammer Oktoberfest

Clawhammer Oktoberfest is a lightly colored, but toasty, rich and full bodied Marzen style lager, brewed with traditional German malt and the finest noble hops. A spicy hop finish and aroma balance out the abundance of malt flavor. Clawhammer means pure high-country enjoyment!

3.1 BOD 7/7/15. Pours a clear medium amber. Very good (for a lager) head volume, lacing and retention. Very light nose of biscuit with caramel notes. Heavy light body that is somewhat smooth. Superb carbonation with a nice effervescent middle and a finely bubbled burst in the finish. The flavor profile is good. Reasonable intensity, lacks complexity but is very well balanced. It begins with a toasty biscuit that is more cracker than sweet. The middle brings an extremely light hop flavor (herbal) and bitterness. A brief hint of caramel emerges at the start of the finish. The finish is semi-dry and a herbal hop note lingers.
3.4 Poured from bottle. Good aroma of sweet bread and citrus. Cloudy amber with a bit of head. Tasting brown sugar with malt and citrus/pear flavors. Also some cinnamon and spice. Kinda different - not bad.
2.3 Amver pour, thin white head. Light crisp aroma. Body is thin and easy to drink. Flavor is absurdly light. Watery almost.
3.0 Bottle from trio. Pours clear Amber with a medium sized off white head. The aroma has your typical sweet esters for the style with some toasted malt and caramel notes. A slight spice from the hops. The taste has a spicy hops presence over a sweet brew. Not bad
3.3 Better than old ipas. Caramel, nutty, light hay. Moderately sweet and bready lager without much depth. Kind of decent i suppose.
3.0 Bottle. Pours an amber color with white head. Caramel, metallic, toast aromas. Caramel, bread, toast, slight metallic, malty flavors. Eh
3.4 Highland Clawhammer Oktoberfest is not the best in style, but it is not bad for a sessionable seasonal. Light malty aroma with light sweetness rising from an orange translucent pour with a head that fades too quickly. Taste is well balanced and not real bold with a light sweetness, malt notes and little spice. Clawhammer is a session beer that goes well with food, but not real special sample of the season.
3.1 It is good and easy to drink but its nothing special. Still a descent marzen but wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
3.5 Nice and quite refreshing. Not much to say but it was well brewed. Easy to drink and nice aroma.
3.0 Great smooth beer with just the right amount of spices, well balanced and tasty
3.3 Bottle gifted from friends. Thanks Mike and Andrea. Aromas are bread, caramel, grass, iron, copper. Pours a rusty orange. Flavor is bready with a metallic twang to it. It’s not offensive but it seems to be the first thing my mind thought of when drinking this. Overall it’s a good brew.
3.1 Pretty solid marzen. Copper colored. Sweet caramel and toffee aroma. Some spicy hops come through in taste, but dominated but sweet and bready malts. Easy drinking.
2.8 Poured from bottle into shaker. Pours a very light orange with a 2 finger head. Head dissipates to a thin skim fairly quickly. Aroma - light aroma, but malt and spicy hops present. Taste is very malty, no real hop character. One note really, lots of caramel and toffee notes.
3.5 Brown pour with minimal head. Toast, malt, bread, caramel. Generally sweet. Big body, slam able. Everything a marzen should be.
3.6 Pours a crystal clear autumn color with a decent head which dissipates fairly quick. Aroma is a rich malt note with some weak caramelized brown sugar or molasses. Taste is malty, bready, almost a weak holiday spice note from the carbonation playing on the tongue. Overall a great drinkable beer, killed my whole first one in about 5 minutes.
3.2 Draft. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malt and floral hop aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.
3.0 Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Looks solid; a mostly transparent golden orange with foamy eggshell head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of mild caramel and very soft hops. Tastes like it smells with some biscuit as well. Average on the palate. A decent no-frills example of the style.
3.4 A bit blah. Looked way better than it tasted. Pours a really nice color for a lager- clear amber with nice white head. Nuttiness and malt on the nose- same on palate with the addition of a bitter finish. About the right mouthfeel for a lager- feels more summer-y than an octoberfest beer should. Just not that much to it- want a bit more barley and hops and a bit less water in my brews.
3.4 Clear amber. Nice nutty malt. Slightly acidic finish that I wish was a little less aggressive.
2.9 Not much aroma with this one. Very mild and light. Some subtle toasted notes of almond bread and malt. Good light beer.
2.1 Not much flavor or nose. Horrible Octoberfest. Not very malty not very enjoyable.
3.3 12oz bottle pours a murky orange color with a quickly dissipating white head. the aroma is of malts, semi sweet with some touches of hops is the best I can come up with. the flavor is malt forward with some mild bitterness in the middle and on the end. pleasant tasting for this style of beer. seems like mild breadiness in there as well...almost an orange taste but I could be wrong. overall decent and drinkable.
3.3 A distinctive American take on the Oktoberfest style. Appearance was average, a little more orange-ish color, not much head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Mild hop presence in aroma and taste, also some toasted malt. Closer to full-bodied mouthfeel. Highlight of this beer is its incredible smoothness. Recommended. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
2.7 12oz bottle (filled 9/4/13) - pours deep gold with almost no head. Caramel and floral nose. Slight pumpkin aftertaste or some other spice. Light body. Very neutral.
3.8 12oz bottle. Bright orange color with only the slightest ring of tiny white bubbles. Aroma is lightly sweet and a little spicy. Actually really tastey.
3.6 Draught at Lexington Beerworks. Orange color. Light body. Not heavy on caramel at all. Some citrus and basically pretty refreshing Oktoberfest.
2.8 12oz bottle, filled 8/20/13. Clear orange color. Thin off-white head. Leaves some lace. Medium-plus body. Crisp carbonation. Toasty, caramel malts. Light lemon. Moderate bitter, light sweet. Was solid as I swigged it in between bites of sandwich, but on it’s own, it suffers.
3.4 Drank from a bottle. This beer has a light to medium body with a hop note but more a carmel flavor.
3.5 Bottle. Lactic caramel malt and hay aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Sweet caramel malt and hay flavor. Sharp finish. Very nice.
2.9 Clear medium amber with a small head and light streaks of lace. Taste is caramel malt that is, at first, thin and watery, then turns oily before yielding to light carbonation bittering at the finish. Drinkable, but not one of the better examples of the style.
