A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character.

4.1Heavy on the pallet, dark and delicious. Not super bitter at all. Great mouthfeel, not as creamy as I like
3.1Bottle from Harris Teeter, Hampstead, North Carolina. Extremely dark red with a small head. Its dark malts have a small grittiness to them, but no real roasted malts found here. There is a smoothness within its texture.
3.3Draft at Growler USA. Dark brown full bodied beer. Dry taste of roasted malt, finishes mild. Unexciting.
2.9The aroma is a little barnyard smell. Pours dark brown with beige head, mostly diminishing and excellent lacing. The taste is umami, not much to it. The body is medium/light, the texture thin, the carbonation lively and the finish abrupt. Doesn’t make it for me but this beer did sit in the fridge for awhile,
3.5on tap at Grumpy Monks in Myrtle Beach - super dark in color. Not much aroma. A nice porter.
4.2Poured from the tap into a pint glass at the Carolina Ale House in Columbia, SC. The appearance is a dark brown color with a small tan head. The aroma is mostly coffee and malt. The taste is very similar to the nose with some slight raisin flavor added.
3.3Pours dark brown with tan head. Has a roasted malt, coffee, and grain aroma. A taste of roasted malts, grains, coffee, and some chocolate. A dry grain and roasted malt aftertaste.
3.2From mix 6 pack bought at Village Market (Harris Teeter’s yuppie division), Johns Island, South Carolina, tasted on July 22, 2016. Very dark brown/coffee color, nice roasted malt aroma with some chocolate, slick texture, toasted malt/chocolate/oat flavor significantly compromised by chemical taste and astringency.
3.612 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The aroma has strong molasses and licorice notes. Leathery and herbal. This beer actually comes across a lot like a black ipa. Medium body and high carbonation.
3.6Bottle shared at a tasting at The Dancing Camel. Very dark brown. Vanilla, chocolate milk, soft roastiness aroma. Roasty, bitter, a little ash taste. Full body, roasty bitterness, ash finish. Nice!
3.6Pours a dark brown with a long-lasting light tan head. Some chocolate, oatmeal, and brown dinner bread flavors. Unique.
3.3Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks kerenmk. Brown. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, caramel, toast. Sweetish flavor with chocolate, some roast, nuts. Medium-bodied. Quite nice.
3.6Bottle at Findlays in Gaylord, Nashville, 12th July 16. Pours black, aroma is chocolate, smoke. Taste is smooth, chocolate, smoke, malts. Palate medium carbonated, not bad
3.8Smell of coffee, cacao, oat, malt. Drink from bottle, can’t see color. Taste of tart coffee, porter bitterness, right carbonated. Slightly slimy texture. Above average, good beer overall.
2.912oz bottle thanks to TAR
Pours dark brown with a small beige head, light lacing. Aroma of cocoa, dark fruit and caramel. Flavors of roasted malts, caramel, chocolate and fruity
Decent
3.2It pours dark brown with a brown head. There are moderate fruit aroma with Roast, chocolate, and some nut. There are flavors of roast and citrus with chocolate, oats, and nut. It has a moderate feel that is on the heavy side with a moderately high bitter finish. It has a fairly high level of carbonation. Overall it is a malt forward ale with a pleasant balance of citrus hops.
3.2Bottle - pours dark brown tan head - nose/taste of roasted oats, chocolate toast and vanilla - medium body.
3.1Bottle. Brown with tan head. Roasted, dry malt aromas. Flavors are roasted, light sweet and dry notes.
3.0Dark brown, tan head. Don’t get any smoothness you would expect of an oatmeal. Mild chocolate flavor, sweetness a little, followed by a little bitterness on the tail end.
3.2Pours a depp dark brownish black color. Aromas of chocolate, a touch of nut, and smoke. Flavor is bittersweet, smoke and woody. Kind of watery.
3.8At the brewery : Nice smell of chocolate and medium roast. Taste is the same with medium-light mouthfeel. Easy drinking porter but on the lighter side so good for warmer days maybe. Not bad.
4.1Pours dark brown, thin tan head. Bright caramel chocolate aroma. Taste has oats, chocolate, prunes, some hops.
3.516oz Draft 7/29/15 (Brewhouse -South)-Pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, and slight coffee. Taste of the same. This medium bodied brew is well balanced and goes down smooth.
3.6Pretty nice. Some vanilla and oat. Good balance. Roast and dark chocolate. Pours black with good head and lacing. Light bitter finish. Bottle.
3.6Bottle into stout glass. Looks like a stout. Smells like stout. Taste slightly charred almost burnt but not in a bad way. Hint of toffee. No chocolate or coffee. Good beer.
3.4Poured from a bottle. 1-finger creamy long -lasting head. Dark somewhat opaque color. Coffee aroma. More carbonated than I was hoping.
3.712 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark (almost black) amber with a creamy, tall, light-tan head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is of sweet chocolate with hints of caramel. Taste is sweet to start with but then has a slight amount of bitter-sour for the finish, which makes for a nice contrast. The beer has a medium body with a silky texture. Carbonation is average. Overall, this is a nice beer. I’ve had better Porters than this, but I would certainly buy (and more importantly) drink this again. Thankfully, this is carried by my local grocer, so I will probably be partaking again very soon!
3.7Semi-transparent dark pour with a thin, light tan head and strong sweet cocoa & dark chocolate aroma. The line between sweet stout & this porter is very thin. Very nice taste that imitates the smell with some vanilla and the slightest bitterness that cuts some of the sweetness. Flavorful & enjoyable.
3.31/VI/15 - 12Fl. Oz. bottle from a trade @ home - BB: n/a, bottled: XI/22/14 (2015-742) Thanks to Scott for the trade!
Clear chestnut brown to purplish beer, small irregular creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Doesn’t look like a porter to start with. Aroma: nutty, caramel, sweet, some mocha, toast, dried fruits, banana, some cocoa powder. Doesn’t smell like a porter either, more like a brown ale or a Belgian dubbel. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of caramel, bit sourish, yeast, hoppy bitterness, some banana, soft roasted flavour. Aftertaste: hoppy, banana, bit nutty, toast, yeast, caramel, dried fruit, bit yeasty, bread. Nope, doesn’t taste like a porter either. They should sell this as a dubbel. Very weird.
