E. is for Edward (1917-2002), my grandfather, as well as the name of the first beer that I brewed in my brewery on March 30, 2010. E. is for Easter; brewing in Denmark revealed a European tradition of crafting Easter (Påske) beer. Thus, in honor of E., to the past and future emprises here on Hill Road, a special first anniversary release. Edward fermented with yeasts of Belgian origin, tank conditioned over four months, dry hopped with Galaxy hops, and bottle conditioned. E is for Entelechy, the continued actualization of our potential through spirited effort and vision.

4.5Bottle again at Xmas 2018 tasting. Still spectacular!!
Bottle from Eric 2017 Xmas gathering. Pours clear orange some head and lots of lacing. Nose is apricot, white wine. Flavours of peach, apricot yeast lemon white wine. Light bitter, light sweet. Medium light body with lively carbonation. Beauty.
4.3(Tap sample @ CBC 2016 Red Session, Copenhagen) Pours cloudy medium gold with a beautiful huge white frothy head and lace. Aroma is a full-on blast of fruit, one of the punchiest hop noses I've encountered. Super-ripe peaches, nectarines, apricots, passion fruit, lychee, behind which is a layer of oak notes that surprise me since I don't think it's BA, minerals, and a saison-like pale malt and yeast body. On the tongue, it's dry, crisp and balanced, with that oak-like richness I can only assume comes from yeast. Lots of fruit notes again, ripe peach, lychee, guava, passion fruit, cantaloupe, moderate grain, yeast, moderately bitter grassy hops in the back end. Medium-full body, soft creamy effervescent carbonation. This was a really pleasant surprise even for HF, the hop notes are up there with the best IPAs, massive fruit from the Galaxy. Awesome stuff.
4.0On tap at FoFA 2017...not sure what year though. Found this to be nicely mellow and delicious, incredibly funky with a full body and moderate carbonation, but it was towards the end of rating beers and can't read much else.
3.8750ml bottle shared with Julien. Pours golden orange with a huge frothy head. Slowly dissipating leaving a bunch of lacing. Hazy and thick throughout. Smells hoppy and sweet winey at the same time. Sweet galaxy hops. Pineapple citrus hops and sweet wine barrel oak. Tastes like a good Edward, hoppiness and bitter finish to boot with a winey crisp citrus profile. Dry grapefruit bitterness on the end. Very nice. Smooth, full and crisp mouthfeel. Very nice. Not my favorite style but great nonetheless.
4.24/2/2013
750ml bottle poured into a Gandhi Bot snifter.
A~ hazy golden copper with crazy huge head and lots of lacing.
S~ peppery, citrus, and lots of bready yeast. just like a great saison should smell!
T~ more hop bitterness up front then i was expecting, definitely a nice treat. followed by a lot of lemon/lime citrus, a tad orange. nice pepper and tartness on the finish. mmm..!
M~ very carbonated but not overly so. you can kind of feel the bitterness from the hops if that makes sense lol
O~ definitely different then most HF saisons i’ve had but i’m gonna blame that on the hops! in a good way of course =] i love how HF saisons get sour with a little age, this one especially!
3.9750ml bottle (thx, Reginald D.!) shared with Jamey W. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a white head. Aroma is funky, fruity and woody, very sophisticated. Taste is similar with lots of funk and barrel notes. Fruity, funky and hoppy aftertaste. Good stuff, as usual :-)
4.0Bottle @ Warpigs - HF tap takeover, 2016. Clear medium yellow body with a small white head. Citrus, lemon, yeast, funk, tart, brett, hops, malt. Good.
4.0750mL bottle. Pours amberish gold with a medium off-white head. Aroma is funk, citrus, grass, white grapes, earth, hay, and oak. Taste is barnyard, funk, earth, grapefruit, lemon, grass, apricot, some tangerine, and a little oakiness. Some pepper in the finish. Some light acidic tartness with a little lingering bitterness. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Crisp-ish mouthfeel; yeast sediment makes it a bit slicker. As it warms the fruit brightens and the barnyard diminishes, simplifying the taste to big apricot and tangerine up front with an earthy finish. The beer feels like a combination of Edward and Dorothy (especially in the aroma), although the palate isn’t quite as strong as either of those beers.
4.1750ml 2014 bottling of E. Hasn’t dried out as much as expected after all this time, and the funk level is moderate. Not a brett bomb by any means. Hop punch from release is obviously gone, now has a more rounded earthy orange character with some stonefruit and Belgian yeast spice in the finish. Also some touches of light sweet bready grain and honey notes. The fading of the hops revealed much more of a Belgian charactee than expected. Pretty balanced out right now in the profile. I preferred the somewhat dreggy pours from the second half of the bottle. Very enjoyable, but this is definitey one to drink now if you’ve still got it.
3.9Sample at CBC 2016, smells like hill, funky, light sour and pleasant hoppy ending
4.1750 ml bottle thanks to Mike! Hazy golden to orange color with off white head. Hoppy, yeasty and light malty aroma, floral, light citrusy fruity, light funky, cheesy, light vinous, wood. Sweet, light bitter and light acidic taste. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
4.0May 12, 2016. Bottle at Hill Farmstead day at Warpigs. .
Hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is fruity with sweet notes of pineapple and peaches, bright lemon, passionfruit and orange, some funky barnyard and hay notes, light grain and herbal peppery notes. Taste is very light sweet, tart, fruity and funky. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation, slightly dry. Finish is slightly dry, some grassy and herbal bitter notes, lemon and passionfruit, some funky barnyard notes and light fruity and malty sweetness.
Nice one!
4.0This tastes like a Hill Farmstead beer and that’s a good thing. It’s cloudy w/ a creamy white head. There seems to be a lot of tropical fruit such as you get from some strains of brett. There’s definitely a bit of hops in the mix as well but it’s pretty subdued. There is some implied tartness by some more fruity aromas once tasted. It’s a bit bitter and feels balanced and drinkable. I could drink a ton of this stuff.
3.7750 ml bottle to snifter. Looks good; a cloudy orange with white head. Smells and tastes hoppy, funky, and oaky with a pleasantly tart medium-bodied mouthfeel. Tasty.

3.1Bottle from trade from Macboost. Nose is lightly tart with a but load of Belgian yeast character. Pepper, light cardamom, coriander, crazy. Light hay. Taste is initially a lactic tartness followed by funky Brett. Hops are minimal. Ok, I guess.
4.2Draught @ CBC 2016, Red session, København

4.3Tap @ CBC 16. Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma of dank fresh juicy hops, tart vinous notes, green apples, lemon zest, juicy grapes and some sweet citrus fruits as well.
