Hill Farmstead Edward

Hill Farmstead Edward

Edward (1917-2002) is our grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his five children.  In his honor, this American Pale Ale is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Edward’s well.  It is unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and dry hopped.  Aromatic and flowery, with impressions of citrus and pine, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Edward.

13.5ºP, 85 ibus, 5.2% abv. Pale and Caramel malt; Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, and Warrior hops; House Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

4.1 Piwo w kolorze pomarańczy, całkowicie zamglone, obłędna piana. Aromat owoców tropikalnych plus trochę cytrusow. W smaku owoce, lekka goryczka. Bdb apka
4.3 Pours a cloudy amber/honey. Nose is big bright red grapefruit, pine, citrus. Taste is distinct red grapefruit, candied orange, citrus, floral, resin, mineral. Very solid.
4.1 Translucent golden. Minerality is pleasant and unique, floral and fruity hops and balanced malts.
3.5 Ne pas acheter! Il font autre chose que j'aime plus... Solitude!
4.0 Hazy golden coloured. Hay, hoppy, farmhouse and wort flavours. Apricot. Some bitterness.
4.1 Pours a very hazed golden with suds of white head. Citrus forward aroma. Citrus and orange peel, Derry taste. Soft texture. Notes: on tap at the Reservoir, Waterbury VT, Dec ‘19
4.1 From backlog. Taster from bottle at bottleshare, Escondido, Ca. Cloudy orange with white head. Malts, hops, yeast, citrus, pine, some bitterness, good balance
4.1 On tap in Woodstock VT. Pours nearly clear golden with small white cap. Aromas and flavors are both similarly citrus and pine combined and fairly balanced. A little light on the mouthfeel, but very solid offering.
3.5 Keg from the Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen in 2016. Full marks for the name. Lightly hazy with a white head. Aroma of fresh hops; grassy and citrus notes. Flavour has good hoppy bitterness.
4.0 From tap at The Pony Bar, New York. Aroma is fruity and piney with citrus, soft tropical fruits, some grapefruit, hint of caramel. Surprisingly firm malt backbone. Mild sweetish, moderate bitter. Gentle and easy, nuanced softness.
4.6 Bonne pale ale hoppy rafraîchissante
3.2 Pours a hazy amber from a tap. Funky cheese aroma, similar flavor and also quite grassy. Good beer.
4.1 On tap at the Farm House Tap and Grill. Hazy pour with a long-lasting cap that leaves tons of lace. Beautiful beer. Understated hoppy nose: earthy pine and cedar, juicy citrus, some tropical undertones, and a bit of what I assume is there house ale yeast. Taste is just beautifully balanced. A bit juicy, very sturdy for 5.2%, great mouth feel/texture. Moderate bitterness on the finish. This isn't over-the-top in your face like a lot of Vermont ales, but my god is it well put together. Perfect APA.
3.9 Had on tap at American Flatbread in Waitsfield, Vt., in Jun 2019 and again on tap at the City Beer Hall in Albany, N.Y., in September 2022. This is a composite review. Pours hazy golden orange with a small creamy beige head with lots of clingy lacing. Aroma: pine resins, tropical and citrus fruits, particularly orange, mango and grapefruit. Flavor: toast, pine, orange, honeydew melon, honey, mango, grapefruit, yeast. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied, soft palette, somewhat creamy. Drinks bigger than its ABV.
3.8 On tap at The Archives, Burlington, VT. Pours a fair size frothy white, has a slightly hazy orangey appearance. Patchy sticky lacing. Lively carbonation. Aromas of floral and citrus hops, some yeasty notes as well as pine. Flavours are citrusy, oranges, yeast, quite juicy for an APA. Mild bitterness. A little bit of a dry mouthfeel. Good stuff!
3.7 On tap at Beer Shop NYC. Pours bright hazy orange. Orange, grapefruit zest, lime, touch herbal, little biscuit, soft lingering bitter finish. Medium body. Decent.
3.9 Tap pour into goblet. Appearance is opaque dark orange/light brown with nice sparkle at edges of the glass, finger-plus white foamy head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma is pleasant floral and pine. Taste is pine, citrus, biscuit malts. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, soft carbonation and dry, light bitter finish. Overall, strong aroma and taste. Not terribly complex but very solid.
4.4 First Hill Farmstead beer and it lived up to my expectations. Tried with Jess at the Farmhouse in Burlington in 2019 on our way back from QC. Light and a little hazy. Mild aroma, but thick grapefruity flavor.
4.0 First hill farmstead brewery rating. Went there today on trip up to Montreal for wedding. Beautiful snowy day. So far the extremely high bar has been hit.
4.0 Draft at The Ruck. Hazy amber color with a small white head. Aroma is complex with notes of tropical fruit, pine, grapefruit, orange juice, citrus, light peach, and a really unique house character. It's not a completely hazy style APA, but it's not a PNW one either, it's got a twinge of what I'm guessing is their house yeast in their saisons. It's the only thing I've had from Hill Farmstead so it's impossible to say. This beer is like the first date with your future wife, it couldn't have gone better but you're left wanting more from what the future holds with her/the brewery. Tied for the best APA ever with Alpha King and Pseudo Sue.
4.7 On tap at Cooper's Craft & Kitchen. This is just American pale ale perfection. The aroma doesn't knock my socks off as much as the taste, which is perfect.
4.4 Pours Golden with a white head. Aroma of floral, citrus and fruit. Taste is fruity bitterness
2.9 Pours a cloudy golden with a short white head. Pineapple and orange nose. Nice, pleasing aroma. Flat mouthfeel. Flavor falls a little flat as well.
3.9 7/29/18 - New York, NY - Manhattan - Blind Tiger Ale House - on tap. Light haze to the medium orange pour, nice thick off-white head, great lacing. Aroma of white grapes and coriander. Flavor is tropical in nature, has some pineapple accents, some pear-like fruitiness, light citrus bitterness in the back end. Very tangy and juicy. Thick, sticky mouthfeel.
4.0 Aroma is floral with some fruit, pour is this cloudy, orange gold thing which I will one day get used to. Taste is a rich blend of hops. Refreshing.
4.0 With Audrie at Columbia Circle in Manhattan, Whole Foods....no missing this one. Pours a cloudy golden color small white head. Nose is fresh tropical fruit laced with fresh peaches....Taste is bittersweet , light hops with soft pine and resin. Finishes on the same tropical bittersweet notes with light hops and resin. Fantastic ! Quaff Score 8 / 10
4.1 Draft at the brewery. Aroma is floral with some fruits, peach, apricot, very fresh. Taste is on the sweet side, very fruity and full of flowers.
3.9 Enjoyed on tap at the brewery on my first visit. Cloudy golden-orange colour with a creamy white cap that stays well. Citrus aroma of oranges and light tropical notes. Citrus taste of orange and grapefruit juices with a soft bitterness and dryness in finish. Quite nicely balanced citrusy beer.
4.0 En fût V&V, 2016. Jaune, mousse blanche, nex houblonné et floral. En bouche, céréales croustillante, houblons fruités, belle texture. Excellente.
