Hill Farmstead George

Hill Farmstead George

George was our grandfather’s brother, and Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings.

George is our American Brown Ale. Hopped, rightfully so, with Centennial, Cascade, and a touch of Columbus…

3.7 Enjoyed on tap at the brewery on my first visit, Easter weekend 2018. Hazy brown colour with amber highlights, warm beige cap and full lacing all around. Nutty and roasted malt aromas. A little more bitterness for a brown ale, so nice dry finish with grassiness, well balanced mild sweet and fruity background.
4.6 Can. Dark brown with small head and a some lace. Woody maple syrup chocolate milk caramel aroma. Roasted maple syrup nuts caramel with subdued dark fruit with woody spicy medium light bitter finish. Medium body soft. I'm not a brown ale guy, but this is FUCKING INCREDIBLE. Wicked complex and delicious.

3.7 Aroma: rich and roasty; Appearance: dark chocolate brown with thin offwhite head that lingers; Taste: follows nose; lots of roasty caramel; really good for a brown ale; Palate: heavy body with long, roasty, nutty finish that doesn’t get too malty like most browns; Overall: very nice. Probably wouldn’t seek out but an excellent example of the style.

3.4 Tap at Fools Gold. Opaque brown colour, good creamy brownish head and lace. Toasted aroma has some coffee. Medium-bodied. Toasted coffeish flavor. Earthy hoppyness. Malty finish. Some other brewery may call this black ipa although it is not so fruity hoppy.
4.1 Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a creamy and thick off white foam head. The aroma is sweet caramel, roasted malts, soft smoke, oats, and a pleasant earthy hop presence. Tasting was very similar to the aroma notes. The roasted malts and the bitterness were very enjoyable. The finish is rather good and fades quickly to leave a subtle roasted grain taste in my mouth. It’s mouthfeel and body were very well done. Overall a great drinkable beer. Honestly I wish I could have this as a go to beer in my fridge. It’s simple, flavorful, and balanced.
