Hill Farmstead / Kissmeyer / Cambridge Nordic Saison

This farmhouse ale was brewed at Hill Farmstead with our friend and mentor Anders Kissmeyer (Kissmeyer Beer & Brewing) and our longtime friend Will Meyers (Cambridge Brewing Co.). Inspired by our guests and their journeys, this beer was brewed with the resourcefulness and inventiveness of the Nordic tradition, as well as the creative spirit of its three architects.

3.5 Oxford tasting, bottled 2017-06-22 End of the bottle, now murky orange. Spicy yeast aroma and delicate fruitiness from stone fruits. Dry, soft mouthfeel, strong funky component, medium acidity, mild peach taste, and some astringency in the final. Very good.
3.9 750ml bottle (thx, Jonathan J.!) shared with Jamey (with leftovers passed to Alex, lol). Bottled on 2017-06-22. Aroma is floral and bretts. Similar taste with some slight cat's pees notes. Very juicy. Fruity hoppy bitterness aftertaste. Good one.
4.3 Bottle - Pours lemon yellow with a white head. Lovely tartness, a bit of pine, floral notes, just lovely!
4.2 Bottle from Hill Farmstead. Pours yellow with a massive, pillowy white head which leaves a shitload of lacing in the glass. Lots of funk and barnyard on the nose and tongue along with some notes of honey and flowers. Finished clean. Very nice.
4.1 Bottled, 2014 vintage. Unclear orange with white head with great retention. Slightly tart with hay, citrus, apricots and some floral herbs. Subtle and balanced.
3.4 (750ml bottle) Pours a hazy yellow body with a small white head. Aroma of herbs, florals, grass, barnyard, and nectarine. Flavor of citrus, herbs, yeast, and grass with a moderately dry finish.
3.9 Funky farmhouse aroma with underlying lemon citrus and a little bubblegum. Tart, somewhat funky flavor, balanced by some underlying honey sweetness. Tart, spicy finish. To me this is more of a sour than a saison. Really different and really good.
4.3 Nice creamy golden, bit of white foam. Sour funkuy saison nose, fruity and dry. Cranberry peels and lingonberries in the nose, coming out also in taste. Sourness is high but fruits or berries. Actually can imagine myself in a wet forest, picking some linginberries from moist moss and eating them right on spot. Nose and flavour and concept together creating this sensation. Great one and lots of character and complexity.
3.8 On tap at Øst, october 21st 2016. Cloudy yellow body with a white head. Aroma of zesty apricot, wheat, fresh acidity. Taste is sour and bitter, rhubarb, grapefruit, apricot comes to mind. Funky brett and sour finish, overall a crispy and refreshing beer.
3.6 *8/3/2014 750ml bottle poured into a Hill Farmstead wine glass. A~ beautiful glowing copper with yellow undertones. decent head and a bit of lacing. S~ tons of bready, peppery Belgium saison yeast, tart citrus and what do you know! a ton of honey! T~ you get everything from the nose just a tad more subtle here. so theres bread, pepper, lemon, lime, grapefruit, fresh cut grass, wheat, spelt?, and of course great honey flavor! ending with a nice dry lemony tartness and some bretty barnyard funk. mmm...! M~ perfect carbonation! not gonna lie I expected it to gush haha! very refreshing and dry on the finish. O~ its like a sessionable blend of Arthur and Anna hmm...! the crazy citrus from Arthur and the great honey flavor of Anna just a little lighter all around. overall definitely another great colab. i’d like to try Kissmeyer’s version of this at some point. i wish his regulars didn’t start getting brewed in the states... they might be better now but i loved when he was still brewing himself in Denmark. anyway this is a perfect 4.25 and theres nothing wrong with that!
4.3 Keg at Mikkeller Bar, Stockholm. Cloudy golden, small head. Hay, cobwebs and white wine up front. Tart with medium body and rounded, mildly spritzy mouthfeel. Barnyard meets champagne. Floral with some acetic lemon. Mid bitter finish. Classy! Delicious!
4.6 On tap at Mikkeller sthlm. Hazy golden with white head. Aroma is fresh, tart, funky, lactic, grain, earth and floral notes. Taste is super balanced, tart and lactic, earthy, floral notes with some grain and low-medium bitterness. Great!
4.0 Balance. Lovely aroma, nice light tartness, fruity, refreshing no flaws. It’s not life changing, but it’s balance is masterfully done.
4.0 Bottle acquired via trade... Hazy yellow gold in color... Aroma of citrus, honey, earthy grains, floral notes... Flavor is fairly citrus forward, lots of juicy orange, tangerines, some grapefruit bitterness throughout... Some honey, rhubarb notes, really juicy and refreshing... Delicious

3.9 Draft: Poured an orange yellow with a white head. Aroma is fruity and pungent. Taste is rhubarb and funky.
4.3 750ml bottle 2014 vintage pours hazy orange with 2 plus finger foamy head. Nose and taste are wonderful with earthy wet grain, bright orange, honey, hay, lemon, citrus zest, grassy, still has a balanced level of tartness that adds just the right bit of pep to the rustic saison base. Still exceptional after 2 years.
4.2 Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma; Hay, yeast, herbal, floral, green apples and horse stable. Flavours; Floral, yeast, green apples, lemon grass, minerals and earth notes.
3.9 Bottled July 13, 2015, drunk 11/5/16. Medium-sized, white head shows moderate to moderately-low retention. Good clarity in this copper-brass-tinged golden body. The nose is full of lightly tart brett notes adding a good deal of lime and other various brett acid notes, with very light band aids and minor honey notes from the malt. Soft, mineral-laden house character mixes with lightly biscuity/grainy malts and there is no alcohol or flaw. In the mouth it’s quite supple; not being over-attenuated in the bottle like the Florence and a few of the other HF’s we’ve had lately. Still a nice soft, honey-like character, with light to moderate tartness and strong orange and lime citrics. A hint of band-aid-like brett and more grain and biscuit lingering on the finish, with low to moderate, tight carbonation.
5.0 Stockholm, bottle. One of my favourite saisons so far! Hazy, spicy, raisin like, lot of carbonation and awesome drinkability.
3.2 How: tap Appearance: hazy light golden, medium white head. Aroma: stone fruits, honey, floral, spice. Palate: medium body, medium carbonation.
4.0 Bottle from PhillyCraft. It pours a cloudy pale orange color with a fizzy, disappearing white head. The aroma is juicy with tangerines, orange, a little grapefruit, mango and some flowers. A good amount of sweaty funk. The flavor is soft, funky and tart with more tangerine and nectarine notes. Subtle flowers, pepper and funk. Very fruity and tart. Lower carbonation than normal for this type of beer and it comes across a bit oily on the palate. Tasty.
3.9 Tapp på øst. Lys gylden, uklar farge. Lavt karbonert med hvot skumtopp. Smaker sitrus, lys frukt og syrlighet fra melkesyre. Meget frisk
