3.9 750ml growler. Cloudy golden with a frothy white head. Flavors are crisp cereals, sweet orange, bread and grass with spicy notes. Medium body, soft carbonation, smooth texture.
3.7 On draft at Hill Farmstead with ebone1988 on the Beercation. The pour is a foggy golden yellow eh a thin white head that leaves solid soapy lace as it falls. The aroma is dank as fuck. There is a good bitterness to it and then a hint of juiciness on the finish. The dankness is overpowering. The flavor is just as dank. There is an earthy hop bitterness to it, and a light juice on the back end. I like Conduct better than this one, but it’s good. The mouth feel is a little thinner with a nice carbonation and a lingering dank hop aftertaste. It’s not too bad. HF is killing it.
3.9 750mL growler filled 5/27/16, drunk 6/8/16. Mildly to moderately hazy, bronze-tinged golden body is topped by a well-retained, large, white head. Very fruity, with a light wood-like hint that I often get from amarillo. Lots of lemons, tangerines, and grapefruit pith. Not resinous, no alcohol, no flaws and with the pleasing house character/minerality. Aroma strength is good, though it doesn’t pour forth like Walden or even Sumner. And again, maybe a touch muted in the flavor, though everything is clean and highly flavorful. Perfect texture, with plentiful dry biscuit and cracker-like malt notes and a high dryness overall yet with a good, malty texture. Oranges, grapefruits, light stone fruits and just a hint of pine. Excellent and fantastically drinkable, and would be the star of most brewery’s lineups. For Hill, it’s only just excellent....
4.0 Draft at Hill Farmstead with koleminer20. Aroma is grassy, juicy, tropical fruit, dank, fantastic. Appearance is golden amber, white head, haze. Taste is dank, grassy, juicy, resin, wow. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light carbonation, super dank aftertaste. Overall, this one is crazy dank and delicious.
4.2 On tap at the Blackback Pub. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy burnt yellow/orange color with an ever so slight transparency about it. Some carbonation could be seen to fill a one finger white foamy head. Speckled lacing ran here and there around the glass. The smell started started off with some full bittersweet citrus, sweet grass, "iced" pulp and rind, malts underneath. The taste was basically the same with a subtle sweet citrus malt aftertaste and finish. The finish is semi-dry but nice. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. Carbonation rides good - fairly low, enough bitterness still nothing overbearing. Overall, whale finally slain, damn good, and would definitely have again.
4.0 Growler from the brewery. A light, slightly hazy, silky-smooth pale ale that makes for pretty easy drinking. The aroma was all floral hops with a hint of citrus, and the flavor was a great mix of grain and hops. The bitterness was stronger than I was used to for Hill Farmstead, and I think it would have improved the beer if it was half as bitter. Still, 32oz’s of this went down dangerously easily -- it’s delicious stuff.
4.1 On tap at brewery. Pours cloudy golden with white head. Aroma is tropical fruits, grapefruit, dank pine resin. Flavor is sticky sweet tropical fruits, pineapple, and mango. Finishes with grapefruit zest and dank pine resin.
3.8 Draft at Fool’s Gold, 12/5/15. Murky yellowish color with a decent amount of lace. Lemon/citrus, a bit of spice, done herbal notes as well. Fairly dry but with a decent balancing act from the spice and light sweetness. Quite tasty, though not quite as good as what they usually do with this style.
4.3 Tap, at the brewery. Murky yet bright, honeyed gold. Frothy, messy, sticky white head. Lots of citrus hop. Grapefruit pith. Grapefruit juice. Hint of lemongrass. Vanilla ice cream malts. Taste is citrus pith bitter. Some soft dryness. Smooth, fairly full body. Bitter finish, with a light dry close. Delicious.
4.1 750 mL growler . Originally reviewed 6/12/2013. Very hazy golden orange. Small white head that lingers. Thin layer of foam rests atop the beer. Bright citrus hop aroma. Grainy malt. Mostly hops. Strong citrus hop flavor. Grapefruit and slightly tropical flavor. Grains behind it with almost no sweetness. The slightest hop bitterness. Oily hop flavor lingers on the palate Light bodied and quite drinkable. Medium carbonation. Another great pale. Very tasty, clean, and drinkable as hell.
4.5 On tap in Stowe at Bench This is a world class APA for anyone who loves hops and smoothness.
4.1 Draft at Reservoir. Poured a bright yellow, fairly clear, foamy white head. Aroma of tropical fruits, grassy, herbal, slight floral hints. Flavor had some mango, lemon, grass, and herbal. Light body and slick texture to it. Bubbly carbonation and really smooth and slick finish. Another hoppy hit from HF.
3.9 750ml 3 days old growler from the brewery. Aroma: tropical fruits, grassy hops. App: hazy golden with thick white head and good retention considering this is 3 days old. And also leaving lacing. Taste and palate: fruity and herbacy in mouth, resinous, dry medium bitter finish. Overall: great. Pretty much the same as their other IPA’s but more clean and less hoppy.
3.8 Draught at Prohibition Pig. It pours hazy golden - orange with a thick white head. The nose is soft, juicy, orange, tangerine, sticky marmalade, melon, faint cucumber, grass and dough. The taste is crisp, quite dry, high bitterness, grapefruit, orange, pithy citrus, grass, minerals, straw, pine and some pepper with a smooth, bitter finish. Medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. One of the more bitter and dry HF offerings. Crisp and refreshing.
3.8 Draft. A hazy yellow beer with a lazing white head. The aroma has notes of lemons, straw, hops, malt, and a bit of hay. The flavor is sweet with notes of lemons, hops, straw, and malt, leading to a bitter finish. High drinability.
4.5 This beer is the definition of focus. Pale yellow pour, large head, good retention, amazing aroma of citrus and Amazonian tree fruit. Taste is dry and lightly bitter. Flavors of deep tropical fruit, citrus. Amazing does not begin to describe it. Finished dry. Mind = blown.
3.5 On tap at Abbye in Worcester. Basically the same beer as Susan, but with fewer hops. Bartender gave me and a buddy both beers together and asked us to pick which one was which. Only difference was Susan was hoppier. Really good beer though.
4.3 Pretty much got my "Hill Farmstead" on at three penny tap. Pours golden Amber, slightly translucent. Slim white head that leaves a nice lacing coat. Lots of citrus, oranges, mango, slight bitterness. Light body.
3.9 The Farmhouse, Burlington, VT, draft. Yellow. Lacing lasts. Tastes a little thin, but bitter. Good, but expected more. In fairness, I'm distracted and the guy next to me keeps farting.
4.1 This poured a hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma was of resinous and lightly dank hips. Flavor similar, body incredibly soft and drinkable of.course.
4.3 On tap at brewery, in growlers, but most recently on tap @ The Jeffrey NYC. Pours a hazy opaque gold, small and creamy head. Aroma is melon, fresh grass, citrus, wheat, pineapple, grapefruit. Flavor has notes of creamsicle, melon sorbet, citrus, dry grass, faintly acidic lemon... Starts out gooey & wet resin, transitions and almost finishes dry. So much juicy but dry fruit, so little time... That is enlightenment.
3.8 Couleur dorée avec un col blanc mousseux. Aromes d’agrumes, un peu de résine, céréales. Une très bonne Pale Ale, mais il y en a des competitive avec celle-ci!
3.6 Draft at the growler NYC. Pours a bright orange cloudy color. Has a hoppy smooth crisp finish. Very flavorful
4.0 Growler from the brewery. Pours a cloudy pale golden color with a white head. Aromas of tangerine, grapefruit, pine. Taste is light bitterness. Light body.
4.1 Draft. Glowing cloudy orange/gold with a frothy white head. Tons of citrus and tropical fruit with pine. Melon, grapefruit, tangerine and orange. Thin smooth mouthfeel and light carb. Great.
4.0 Growler. Cloudy yellow. Very sweet with big tart hops. Resinous. Slightly funky aroma. Wow, amazing.
3.9 On tap at HF. Poured light yellow with white head. Aroma dank resin juice. Light carb med bod. Tastes bitter resin drying.
4.2 Growler: Golden-yellow body, bright, vibrant, translucent. Topped with a soapy & foamy white head that settles nicely as a chunky collar. Aroma explodes with generous notes of pine, citrus zest, orange peel, grapefruit rind, bitter alpha oils, hop resin, & a touch of back-end dankness. Very little, if any, pale malt character. This is ALL hops on the nose. Lovely interplay between the Amarillo & Simcoe, too. Crisp little bitterness up front with each sip. Pines, leaves, grapefruit pith balances with juicier orange flesh. Hints of lemon zest, hop oil, a slight kick of bready yeast & a faint touch of pale biscuit malt left lingering with the citrus remains in the finish. Crisp, semi-dry body. Fantastic pale ale. Great balance between the bitter piney elements of Simcoe & the juicy, citric elements of Amarillo with just enough malt body to fulfill its purpose, yet remain light & refreshing. Stunning!
3.9 Sam’s bottle share...small snifters. Pours a semi-cloudy gold with a nice fluffy pillow head. Aroma is pine and light citrus with cereal and wheat. The taste is really well balanced with a wonderful hop profile of citrus and pine, but very smooth and nuanced. Finish is hoppy for a pale ale. Very very good.
