Hitachino Nest Ancient Nipponia

Hitachino Nest Ancient Nipponia

This Nipponia is brewed using two Japanese original materials; "Kaneko Golden," the Japanese ancient barley, and "Sorachi Ace," the hop which once was bred in Japan. Please enjoy the citrus flavor, the golden color and the complex taste.

Important!: This is the original top-fermented version. From summer 2011, Nipponia has been bottom fermented. See that entry.

3.1 Butelka 0,55l Kolor złoty, lekko zmętniony, piana prawie nie występuje Aromat słodu, chleba, zbożowy, smak zbóż i cytrusów w tle z piwnicą. Takie sobie piwo. Wyraźna wędzonka w smaku i trochę suszu świątecznego
3.4 How: Bottle. Where: SBWF 2015. Appearance: Golden colour with a small white head. Aroma: Malt, caramel, citrus, vanilla, alcohol. Body: Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Flavour: Malt, caramel, bread, hops.
2.4 Pours a slightly cloudy, pale golden orange color with apricot colored edges and a minimal thin head that quickly dissapears. Almost still until given an aggressive pour. Slightly floral, grassy hop aroma that’s somewhat stale at this point. Hints of grass, straw and hay but there isn’t a very strong hop presence. Subtle spiciness along with pale malt, bread and biscuit. Underneath, there is a little bit of light fruit and pilsner malt. Lighter bodied wih a bit more of a crisp, spicy hop bite than the aroma suggests. Still subtle with earthy grass and bitter, dry pine needle. There’s a decent amount of dryness followed by a pilsner malt backbone with a touch of light fruit sweetness. Some bread/yeast in there as well along with biscuit and a subtle cracker-y malt character.
3.5 Hazy gold color with scent citrus flavor. Good matching of bitterness of hop and sweetness.
3.3 Average, frothy, white, fully diminishing head, good lacing. Normal, medium orange body. Moderate malty aroma, with notes of bread and cereal. Moderate hoppy aroma, with notes of flowers and herbs. Light yeasty aroma, with notes of dough. Notes of prune, licorice and medicine. Moderate sweet, moderate bitter and light acidic initial flavor. Average, moderate sweet, light bitter and light acidic finish. Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Light alcoholic, light astringent finish. Complex, but with Sorachi Ace, alas.
3.1 Lovely design. Nice palate. Aroma is a little off putting, though. Generally a nice beer.

3.1 Amber clear color with solid, but fats decaying foam. The smell is round an boozy. The taste is round boozy with a light touch of a sourish feeling part. Crisp staying carbonation that complements the round sweet taste. Light oily sweet aftertaste. This beer is very interesting and good, but not cheap.
3.6 Golden color. Flower nose with an excellent buscuity malty nose. Well balanced, nice hoppy mouth. Very nice golden ale with a bit more punch and depth over your typical English summer blonde. Fairly aggressive bitter finish.

3.4 Orange color, thin almost nonexistent foam, typical overwhelming coconut/pinacolada/litchi flavor of sorachi ace both in nose and taste/aftertaste. Lightly bitter. Bizarre beer, not my fav.
4.1 550ml bottle from Masuyo’s in Asagaya. Poured into a snifter. Hazy golden brown color with a medium-sized off-white soapy head. Bread, honey, caramel, toasted pumpkin pie aroma with a nice crisp resiny aroma present as well. Very sweet on the palate. Watery mouthfeel with a nice slow-burning long bitter finish.

3.5 (Hitachino Nest Ancient Nipponia) Bottle 550 ml from torriman, thanks Victor! Served into annenglish pint glass, ABV 6.5%. I wonder if this version is really not made anymore, fairly easy to get in Spain apparently and the BBD is February 2015. Deep orange golden colour on the body, two full fingers of white thick head, with very good retention, leaving light lacing behind. Very malty aroma, sweet with lots of sugar, but also some wine notes which make it not that bad after all. The taste though has some hops, sweet and sugary malts as the aroma implied, alcohol, homemade sweet white wine. Medium thick body, nicely carbonated. A bit weird this beer, smells old but then taste has enough hops. All in all pleasant to drink though.
2.0 The appearance of Euro-pils and then the dusty, grainy aroma that walks hand in hand with it. The flavour may seem a little richer on the grain but there is no additional contribution of interesting fruit or herbal notes. A but dusty on the palate and similarly unrewarding. Japanese Eurolager. Who’d’ve thunk it.
Corps cremeux. Superbe bière.

1.8 500ml bottle shitty fucking sorachi ace horror. horrible in every way.
4.0 55cl bottle (bb06/2015 - entry as bottom/top fermented?) shared by jaghana@TriState Tasting II. Pours greenish golden, with substance. Complex composition of vanilla cream, butterscotch, canned gooseberry, sweet white wine in the aroma; whisky malts, even a whisp of smoke and spicy/ginger liqueur notes to complement the taste. Palate is both finely textured, oaky and well-carbed. Fascinating exotic sipper at a bearably low abv.
