Hofbräu München Dunkel

Hofbräu München Dunkel

Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer.

Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

3.3 Loved this initially . Sweet brown sugar . Then it tailed off and became okay. Quite a light mouth and I would have preferred it to be fuller and rounder
3.2 500 ml bottle. Pours clear amber brown colour with white head. Aroma of lightly roasted malt. Taste is sweet, bready notes, caramel, light bitter.
3.2 Draft @ Hofbräuhaus, Bielefeld. Clear dark brown/mahagony sporting a righteous white head. Aroma and taste of chocolate, malts, caramel, dark bread and nuts with herbal hints. Moderate bitterness. Medium carbonation. It’s süffig alright, just a tad bit too cloying. I really love me good a good Dunkel but after two Halbe of this I craved for a palate-cleansing Helles to get rid of the lingering sweetness.
3.5 Pours amber brown colour with average head. Aroma of malt, caramel, roasty, bread. Taste is pleasant and not too sweet with good roasted malt notes, caramel, slightly bitter hops and again malt in the finish. Round, satisfying taste and good balance, strong enough taste but also very drinkable and easy to sip. Medium body and very smooth, moderate carbonation. I like this one.
3.1 Enjoyed on tap at The Independent in Tampa FL while having dinner on the patio. Tasted like I expected.
3.8 Aromas of caramel, toffee, bread, malt and a light touch of clove. Fairly dry and crisp with somewhat lively carbonation; light bitterness; a bit sweeter on the finish. Pleasant, refreshing and true to style.
3.5 Fresh fruity aroma, burned caramel on the nose. Crisp fruity flavour with more of the burned caramel which is really nice. Mouthfeel light but not watery. Carbonation feels almost bubbly in the mouth. Probably the best of the four I've now had this weekend although the rating does not reflect that.
3.6 Bottle from Connollys Wine Merchants. Pours a dark amber/mahogany with lovely tight off white head. Aroma of malts, metal, raisin. Taste light toasted malts, caramel, plum, brown sugar. Light to medium bodied, slick. Enjoyable.
4.1 Sweet and mild
3.6 11.2 ounce bottle - $2.49 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Pours an amber-brown body with a thinning, ivory-toned head. Smell: Faint touches of toast and grains along with modest hints of brown sugar, cocoa. A little herbal hop accent and some fruitiness. Taste: A bit sweetish, a little fruity with the aforementioned malt elements. Herbal hops, mild in flavor, provide a drop of bitterness. A little drying action on the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Leans ever so slightly sweet. Not bad. I'd definitely still take the Ayinger Altbeirisch over it, though.
3.4 0,5l bottle from Edeka in München, drinking it on 18/07/2021 BB 09.12.2022 Pours clear light brown color with good frothy off-white foam on top. Aroma of malt, caramel, roasty, bread. Taste is pleasant and not too sweet with good roasted malt notes, caramel, slightly bitter hops and again malt in the finish. A bit of cocoa but not too bitter. Round, satisfying taste and good balance, strong enough taste but also very drinkable and easy to sip. Very drinkable. Medium body and very smooth, moderate carbonation. I like this one.
3.4 330 ml from a local supermarket. Nice copper to brown colour with a one finger off white head, clean and a small amount of noble hop and caramel malt aroma, nice chestnut and roasted malt spiciness with some noble hops and slight chocolate. Heavy carbonation and medium to slightly oily mouthfeel - generally OK. Would definitely like to try this style if it weren't a bit oxidised from sitting on the outside supermarket shelf.
2.6 Tried this beer at the beer hall first and I remember being impressed, but the imported bottle disappointed. Stale maltiness with an overly roasted character. Little to no sweetness.
2.5 500ml bottle as a present. Pours dark amber with a big white head. Aroma of lightly roasted malt. Taste of malt and grain. Sweetish finish.
2.3 Sour taste
3.7 Clear dark amber with a foamy light tan head. Plum, dark fruits and roasted malts. Medium to full smooth body. Salty with a little sweet finish.
3.4 Botella 500ml Color cobrizo-rojizo, espuma beige, alta, fina, resistente. Aroma malta, malta tostada, caramelo, pan, miel, bizcocho.
3.2 Rocky beige head left a froth on a finely carbonated chestnut coloured body. Malt, bread & raisin aroma. Medium bodied, tingly with a cloying back. Malt, demerara, bready, raisin & caramel tastes. Lacking in parts.
3.5 Had this first at the source on tap and in the measure of 1x stein. Today I have a bottle. It pours dark brown with a thick, foamy tan khaki head. The aroma is toasty malts, milk chocolate, touch if caramel, mars bar, touch of black pepper, light cola vibes and nut. The taste is bitter - sweet, roasted malt, milk chocolate, bourbon biscuits, peppery spice, toast, light caramel, touch of dried fruits, nut and earth with a toasty, coffee grounds finish. Average body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Nice bitter - sweet balance and high drinkability.
3.3 For a dark lager this is very good. The flavors are well blended together. Carbonation is low. Medium body. Good German beer!
2.0 Aroma: Medium bready crust, Light molasses. Appearance: Brilliant, brown body. Medium, light-brown head. Small bubbles. Low retention. Flavour: Medium bready, Light molasses. Sweet finish. Mouthfeel: Medium body, Medium carbonation. Overall: Nice breadiness, but otherwise nothing else that represents the style. 500 ml bottle, poured.
3.2 Clear dark amber/light brown colour, beige foam. Nose of caramel, toast, roasted malts. Taste is sweet, bready notes, caramel, light bitter.
4.2 Bottled February 12th 2020. It pours a light brown with a finger of off white foam, very nice lacing. The smell is delightful. Mixture of caramel and bready malt, the latter of which reminds me of fresh baked bread. Light hoppiness with some aromas of dark pitted fruit. But the bread is dominant. Bready, caramel taste, dark pitted fruits without the tartness, light bitterness, more bread. The taste is very very nice but doesn't quite live up to the smell. Great smooth mouthfeel. So glad I bought a 6pack online!
Dość treściwe i pełne, piana ładna. Porządny i pijalny dunkel!
4.0 Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours a clear dark brown/mahogany colour with a medium sized creamy beige head. Average carbonation. Aroma of dark fruit, berries, caramel, chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is the same notes as the aroma with added nuts and a nice bitter sweetness that makes it very well balanced. Medium bodied with a very slightly oily mouthfeel and a lovely lip smacking finish. Very good.
