Hook Norton Old Hooky (Cask)

Cask: Regular.

A beautifully balanced beer, fruity by nature, with a well-rounded body and the suggestive echo of Crystal Malt.

3.2 Cask at the ticket office. Nose is citrus, orange, carrot, some toffee. Palate is fruity bitter, a bit watery, some rye bread. Quite alright bitter.

2.8 Cask at Spoons, Eastbourne. A decent enough ale but nothing special. Averrragge. (29/8/17) ---
3.6 Cask @ The Three Fishes, Shrewsbury. Pours clear amber, small off-white head. Aroma bears an alluring sweetness, continuing to taste with caramel providing the bulk of its character. Smooth on the palate, with a soft fruitiness. Decent.
4.0 Cask at GBBF 2017. Clear amber to copper. Bready and caramelly malt aroma with floral hops. Dry with medium bitterness.
3.3 Cask, 1/2 pint, hand-pulled at Hengler’s Circus, Glasgow on 17 Apr 2017, weak malty aroma, amber with a very thin bubbly head and no lacing, resiny, caramel, malty flavour, oily, sweet, soft carbonation.
2.7 Cask - light red with decent head. Ok aroma, bit sweet. Slight ting in mouth. Again bit sweet tasting and finish.
3.2 Cask Pint at Wibbas Down (JDW), Wimbledon, London in July 2009 - Cloudy amber in colour. Very fruity; citrus-orange, tangy. Malty; caramel. Hoppy; floral/grassy hops. Sweet fruity malty leading to a hoppy bitter finish. Tasty. Very drinkable. (2009-07)
2.9 cask, railway union mills iom. darkish copper coloured, nicely balanced fruit and malt. earthyness about it. going down quite smoothly. in good condition. a likeable pint. slurp
2.7 Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A clear deep amber colour with a frothy off white head. Aroma of caramel, some bready malts, slight orange, a little pear, a hint of fruit and subtle earthy hops. Taste of caramel, grain, some bready malts, slight orange, lemon, a little fruit, a hint of pear, I get soap and subtle earthy, floral hops. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A dryish, earthy hop bitterness in the finish. Bit grainy for a premium, malty bitter but a decent amount of bitterness from the hops used. Below average overall and not a good as the bottle, tastes different somehow.
3.3 Cask at the Cunning Man, Burghfield, Berks. Murky orange-brown, small white head. Toffee and caramel are the main flavours here, with fruit in the background (apple and pear?) and a mild earthy bitterness in the finish. On the sweet side. Certainly better than the pasteurised-to-death bottled version; unremarkable but actually pretty drinkable.
3.3 Pours a finger and half of head on a hazy dark straw body. Aroma is fruity and leather. Taste is dark ripe fruit sweet, a little acidic finish. Texture is smooth.
3.1 Cask at the Assembly Rooms, Epsom (JDW). Pours clear amber brown with an off white head. Slightly spur aroma of malt and bread. Sweet finish.
2.6 Cask at the Water House (JDW), Durham, £2.09/pint. Pours a deep, reddish amber with a thin, off-white head. The nose has touches of cereal grain and grass to it as well as doughy, bready malts. The taste is heavily sweet with malt-driven earthy, bready flavours overpowering the palate. Not one I enjoyed very much.
2.8 Cask at Victoria ’spoons. Clear orange, still, small bubbly white head. Aroma is very light, some bready notes. Body is medium, smooth, watery low condition. Taste is bready, watery, touch of spice and resin. A touch insipid, and perhaps not at its best.
2.7 No verbal comments. Just some numbers due to social interaction and heavy drinking.
1.8 Origin; Tap. Vessel: Plastic Cup. Supplier; The Wonky Cock (Market Harborough). Dulled bitterness with no development.
3.6 Tarty aroma. Fruity flavour. Red/brown appearance. Sharp on palate and stronger than you think. Caramel hints All in all a good un. Second pint even better
3.5 Tastes of deep honey flavours. slightly darker with a reddish tinge. Hoppy and smooth with a bitter aftertaste.
3.0 Clear amber golden with a tiny off-white head. Soft, fruity nose. Light body with some fruit. Very discreet bitterness.
3.1 On cask at the William Stead. Appearance - amber with a decent head. Nose - apples and dry biscuit. Taste - more of the same. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - solid bitter.
3.0 Quite hoppy bitter with a dry finish. Some tartness. The cask version is nice and fresh tasting. Overall, a good solid beer though just slightly too tart to be perfect.
3.6 Nice fruity ale. Looks the part with a nice white head. Just fruits, fruits, fruits. Lovely carbonation as well.
