Hopfenstark Saison Station 55

Hopfenstark Saison Station 55

Saison Amère. Saison Station 55 is a red beer with veiled aspect, the taste of malt, hops and spices reminiscent of citrus coupled with a bitter finish. The 55 wants to be a hybrid between a Belgian beer terroir and IPA American type. It is seen against the brewing revival in Belgium.

3.5 Robe orangé, et nez floral. En bouche les notes maltées laissent la place aux fruits puis à une amertume légère. Manque un peu de bulle toutefois.
3.7 Draught at Gollem in Antwerp. Thick, creamy, egg-white, lacing, stable head over a hazy peach blonde beer. Aroma of dried orange peel, mango, yoghurt, fermenting hay, peach, biscuit, cider, stale sweat, wet leather. Estery onset, gooseberry, peach and mango with a light umami accent, soft carbo, gentle lactic ’yoghurty’ and fermenting fruit tartness, fluffy bready and caramelly malt sweetishness underneath leading to a gently but aromatically hopped, floral finish in which the soft tartness also continues. Has sweet, sour and bitter in a consecutive order and all very gentle and well in balance with each other, but none of these flavours define it as either a saison or an IPA. Nevertheless a very pleasant beer.
3.4 Tap at Gollem. Pours unclear blonde, small white head. Smell is bit bitter, taste is sharp, intensely bitter with a nice hoparoma. The beer than switches over to a more sweet, honey-like taste, over a weak saison-profile. Not a traditional saison, and for me not so great. Drinkable though, and interesting to see how they wanted to fade the borders between IPA and saison.
3.6 Bottle from Beergium. Amber color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, hops, earthy notes, fruits, grass and a bit of yeast. Bitter finish with citrus, hops, earthy notes, fruits and grass. Very nice saison.
3.2 Bottle. Golden, hazy, average to large and mostly lasting head. Moderate malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish aroma, light chemical notes/rubber and and light citrus, light spiciness (coriander, faint pepper), light hoppyness. Body is medium, malty - lightly wheaty and dryish - lightly sweetish flavor, light spiciness and citrus, light - some hoppyness. Finish is average malty - faintly wheaty and dryish, light citrus and light - some sharp spiciness and hoppyness, light alcohol. Bit one-dimensional saison with sharp spiciness and chemical notes in aroma. Nice head though.
2.9 A bit sweet for a saison. Appearance is a smallish head and a dirty medium amber color. Aroma is honey yeast, apricots, malt. Flavor’s similar to nose, thankfully there’s some carbonation to cut the sweetness Some bittersweet in the finish.. Body is ok. Wish they would’ve put as much effort into the beer as they did the label. I’ll not get this again.
3.5 Bottle. Darker golden in color with a whitish head. Grainyness with some yeasty spicyness and hints of orange peel in aroma. Some floral notes too. Sweetish fruits with some citrus and peppery spicyness in taste. Refreshing.
3.7 75cl bottle, shared with friends. Served in tulip. Golden/orange colour with huge white head. Aroma is fruits, yeast and hops. Taste is the same with some banana notes added. Well balanced. Bitter aftertaste with some lemony sourness. Medium body, good carbonation. Nice beer, but the american touch is almost absent.
3.5 Bottle at WTWBA 2015 in Minneapolis. Murky / hazy gold pour, white head. Mild fruit, yeast, with a drier finish. Pretty solid.
3.9 Bottle at home. Pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Very dry and quite sweet with lots of hoppy aromas of exotic fruits (passion fruit and pinapple) plus dust from the attic. Medium to full bodied. Medium to soft carbonation. Dry and hoppy finish.

4.0 A slightly orange colour, a head is blond, big and dense. Aroma is great, sweet mandarin and papaiyas, also fruitness from yeast, europian hops. Taste is fruitful, oranges, medium and flower hoppyness, also nice sourness. Medium+ bodied, good carbonation, the body could be lighter. Aromatic and enjoyable beer. Very tasteful and remind me from the great Rulles’s beer, thus the brewer is the right way.
